Captain Rex was present for many major battles in Star Wars including the First Battle of Geonosis, Order 66, and the Battle of Endor. After Dave Filoni prompted Disney and Lucasfilm to confirm that Commander Rex can be seen in Return of the Jedi, we're here to take a look at the other battles Rex trook place in, to see if he can be spotted in any other films from the Star Wars Skywalker Saga.

If I'm not mistaken, Captain Rex was selected for Alpa 17's ARC trooper training program after the battle of Geonosis. We see this also happen with Echo, Fives, and Jesse. It's also worth noting that Rex's designation number begins with CT and not CC as we see with other clone command level officers

I can imagine that Padme would have told Anakin about her encounter with the trooper, and if we assumed said trooper did gather troops and stormed the hangar, Anakin probably would have heard of that as well. So when he was given command of the 501st, he might have pulled some strings to, if the trooper hadn't already been promoted, have him be trained to become his captain. I imagine it would be out of the ordinary for a Jedi to seek out a specific trooper for this role, but I can see it being something Anakin would do.

I agree with you on Padme telling Anakin about the clone, saying how his first words to her was making sure that she was alright before she began giving him orders to round up troops to help support Anakin, and how he made sure to stay beside her until they arrived. And I can see Anakin asking specifically for that clone who kept his future wife safe and making him his right hand man, giving him a name and asking for him to be promoted to captain. He did partake in Alpha's training to become an ARC, so he was probably promoted before that, but I don't think he would be in command of the 501st straight after, probably after the former unnamed commander died in battle, then he was promoted to lead the legion.

Solo series never manage to address the fact that we've usually already seen as much of a particular character as the creators are capable of showing us, and to have any more would just lead to a Luke Skywalker situation where the only thing they can work with is making the person act out of character so their "growth" can be becoming the characters we're actually familiar with.

If you go to Star Wars rebels season 2 episode 3. Go to 07:01 where Rex talks about not wanting to fight the emperor, in that moment there is a phase 1 clone helmet. This helmet was not only phase 1 but has yellow markings. It could be that Rex was a commander not under sky walkers command yet and that’s why he has a commander’s helmet. There were only 2 other clones living with Rex, Wolfe and Gregor. Gregor was a commando and captain so he would not have yellow armour or normal clone armour at all. So I think Rex or Wolfe was indeed in the battle of geonosis and was either who today talked to or who mace windu talked to in the battle of geonosis.

This action earns Rex Anakin's respect, possibly even influencing a decision to work with the 501st when he gets the chance, and appointing Rex personally as the second-in-command in recognition of this action. It's totally worth tweaking a few details in supplementary reference material to fit this in in my view.

    Here’s my Rex Theory.
We know Rex was given his rank because of training from canon back story. We also know he was at both battles of Genosis.
Rex was the clone that fell out with Padme, that helps her and she sends off to get transportation, more clones, etc. After she tells him to do that, he does and above and beyond that, protecting her from stray droids (maybe from ships shot down?) that we’re trying to finish her off. After getting a ship and Padme; they rush to Anakin, Yoda, and Obi Wan in the hanger moments after Douku escapes (possibly firing on him as he’s leaving). Upon landing in the hanger, Rex is already leading the charge based on his orders from Padme. Anakin notices this, and later hearing from Padme that he is the clone that protected her when they fell out, he requests he be specially trained for command because of him helping Padme and leading charge to hanger, Anakin wants him to lead his personal legion, the 501st. Rex being the humble man he is, wouldn’t like to talk about his heroics, and would simply brush his rank off as having been acquired by special training, even though he got that training because of what he’d done.
This would be true to both Anakin and Rex’s characters and personalities. Fits with established canon events and back stories. It would also be super easy to throw confirmation into The Bad Batch as it would only require another meet up with Rex and Omega ask him a question like “how did you become a leader?” or something.

It's definitely possible that the kaminoians would debrief the clones after the battle. As their first actual battle test it's even more likely that they would look for defects in their design. As seen in the clone wars, and later on in the bad batch, some if the kaminoians are intrigued by their creations going beyond their intended purpose. I think gathering a regiment to assault the spire and the praise of a high ranking diplomat would definitely qualify the possible rex for some additional training. This would later become common as clones who showed something special on the battle field received training to be ARC troopers. Also saving Padme would definitely make him more rememberable to Anakin who seems like he would want someone he already knew and respected rather than some random shiny captain.

While the legends content on the creation of clone Commanders is not canon any longer, Rex's position is a precarious balance that is clearly paying homage to that story. He and all clone Commanders are trained ARCs. Considering the Commanders have all been around since Geonosis, as have countless Captains in position of CO (as seen in the attack of the clones movie itself.) It is likely safe to assume he was a Captain then as well. I personally believe this is where Rex's love and respect for Anakin originates, because he is a talented and competent commander who he respects as his Jedi General, exactly contrary to what he had come to expect during his command on Geonosis.

    • @marco117sw
      @marco117sw Před 2 lety +1

      @@yoloactual6975
Not all commanders were ARCs in the EU. And even if Legends no longer pertains to canon in some respects, Dave has confirmed on multiple occasions that his inspiration did indeed come from Legends material. So not everything should be dismissed for simply being in a separate verse. Plus, even in the Disney Canon, all the movies are considered canon to the lore. Which means, not all Commanders were ARCs at the start of the war as depicted in Episode 2, if we're going by armor traits like u pointed out. Atleast, not initially. Just as Phase 1 armor was denoting rank structure and not unit markings back then, none of the commanders were ARCs as of yet. Which means, exemplary Commanders weren't trained to be ARCs until some point after Geonosis. There's three possible ways he may have achieved ARC and Captain. 1. Rex underwent Commander training first (and became Capt) before going into ARC training. 2. Rex underwent ARC training first and was promoted to Capt to compensate for 2 very important reasons. His unorthodox entry to the program, i.e. not a commander to begin with and the leading role of a Legion that is for all intents and purposes, a subordinate to the 212th and directly authorized by the chancellor. Although these points are plausible, they become moot anyway with the following reference and point from EU. 3. ARCs in Legends wore phase 1 armor denoting rank as well. Most being Lt. (Blue) and Capt. (Red) However, there were Commanders (Yellow) who were also ARCs that early into the war. But there was an exceptionally rare occasion of a Sgt. (Green) being an ARC. Only one "Green" ARC was known to exist, N-12 A'den. Now most would argue that ARC Troopers were reserved for officer ranks only. And this is understandably incorrect since most don't know of the existence of a "Green" ARC (side note, I'd love to see an official action fig of this guy). So even in Legends, Captains serving as ARCs alongside potential NCOs who also underwent ARC training was not too farfetched to believe. Case in point, after the Battle of Geonosis, Rex gets promoted to Sgt. Rex is then either sent to ARC or Commander training, depending which happens first. Rex gets promoted after ARC or Commander training to Capt. and receives the 501st under his command. Again, I don't see y Rex starting off as a pvt can't work. Clones in EU were born into their ranks and job structures. Clone Wars hasn't confirmed or denied clones being born as ARCs and were only seen at the earliest right after Geonosis, not too dissimilar to Legends. The only difference was, ARCs did exist prior to Geonosis in EU, where as the CW series has not confirmed.

Rex is not that clone who fell with Padme. Rex was trained and selected probably from birth or in his childhood to be a captain or at least some leader or commanding role in the clone army. He was assigned a leadership position in the 501st legion. Anakin was assigned command over the 501st legion. Rex and Anakin established a good relationship over the course of fighting in the war together in the same battalion. It does not have to be complicated.
Padme gave that clone tall orders because he was the only clone there to command so he had to step up to the plate to fulfill his duty and that is what he did.

With CT being the abbreviation for Clone Trooper, so from the start he wasn’t even an officer which had the abbreviation CC (don’t quote on that one though but i know that is what clone commander abbreviations are), so Rex achieved the rank of Captain later on in the war. Or you can say he was brought up to be a captain, but hadn't quite finished his training before the clones had to be deployed to Geonosis. If I remember correctly, most of the well known clone commanders/captains received extra training from arc troopers to become better at being commanders. This included Commander Cody who was not present at the time of the 1st battle of Geonosis. Which means this extra training took place after or during that. So it would be possible that Captain Rex was the clone who helped Padme, and was at the time a standard rank and file, but was chosen to be apart of the commander training program for his exemplary skills during Geonosis. Maybe he joined the training while it was ongoing and that's why he was given the rank captain and not commander. That or he was not bred to be a commander and that's why he was only a captain even though he took part in the program. That could also explain why he preferred the rank of captain over commander, because its the rank he earned from being a rank and file who stood out enough to be given the opportunity to get extra training with troopers bred to be commanders. Perhaps having the rank of captain gives Rex a feeling of pride.

If Rex really is the clone that helped Padme, then Rex's comment about "experience outranks everything" can have a pretty solid basis and origin story since he didn't get the rank because he was trained for it but through the field experience he gained on Geonisis. And then maybe Anakin specifically asked to have Rex under his command as a Captain because Padme told him about Rex and so on. (Maybe this was already said since this video was posted, but looking though almost 4000 comments is quite intimidating :D)

  • @MegaDeath458

It'd be fantastic to Rex be canonized as this clone with Padmé! Even if kaminoans raised certain clones to be leaders of the army, considering who Anakin is during the clone wars, it makes perfect sense for, as someone said below: "it's possible that due to the casualties during the 1st battle of Geonosis, Rex been given special training to replace a fallen captain" since Anakin could make that happen. He could see something in this clone and after the battle go and say "give this one the right training and data, I want him as captain." Specially since ahsoka joins in the battle and Rex turns basically into an Anakin translator for her in the first seasons. AND he knows how Anakin operates. AND every clone under Anakin feels "handpicked"
And then the rest is history.

Rex was originally just a rank in file clone on kamino, but the Kaminoans had left some regs with special genes to see if they had the ability to use special skills that they hadn't had exact training for. We see this with Fives and Echo, normal clones that are EXTREMELY creative on the field of battle and very adaptable. Once they noticed (in training) that Rex showed these skills he was trained with the others captains and higher ranks, Unofficially giving him rank of captain which would line up with his backstory. On the field of battle when he helped padme he officially got rank of captain.
