I just wanted to say that I have so much of respect towards all the teachers who are going out of their way to make this situation as normal as possible for us students! I am a 14 year old that is incredibly grateful for all of the teachers that are sacrificing and dedicating their time and well-being to their students in such a crazy situation full of uncertainties! It is only through all of the teachers out there that we students can achieve our desired dreams and goals! Stay safe, much love to y’all! :)

Hey teachers! I just finished my first week, as a first year teacher, in kindergarten! For my district we meet for an hour in the morning and 40 minutes in the afternoon for math. I work in an SEI classroom for a minority community and let me tell you, it’s not as crazy as we imagined. I walked out the first day with a smile on my face and it stayed till the end of Friday 🤩 of course it was just the first week and there will be so many changes but just remember that these kids are still super excited to start school. So you stand up there teacher ! And you show them how fun it is to LEARN 🙏🏼 I did a PowerPoint and switched between that and just talking with visuals. Do what works best for you! Kids are gonna 👂🏼 listen. Then as you begin to learn each others strengths and needs you begin to adjust. Good luck 👍🏼🥰🤩

As a teacher, I can tell you that not every lesson is conducive to singing or activities. Sometimes you just need the children to settle down and listen, work. Especially in kindergarten classes, we try to incorporate some movement but please don't encourage the children to only respond to this level of stimulation.

It is sad to see them try to talk to each other but there isn't time for it. They are bored and frustrated with the technology. I have helped troubleshoot and teach some of the kids how to jump from site to site but they are picking it up fast. Still a better option then forcing them to go into classrooms when or health department says it isn't safe.

On the first day of school, some of them are afraid and crying and the rest are just lost and confused. I would approach kindergarten as if I was a cartoon. I would have puppets and use very expressive actions because keeping their attention would be the biggest obstacle.

I am a 2nd grade virtual teacher now. School is completely different this year and my system has adopted several new computer-based learning applications and a brand new curriculum. Many teachers are figuring out how to begin his transition. A lot of teacher-learning is taking place right now, from pre-school to college.
The teacher in the video did an excellent job engaging his K students, making them feel safe and confident in their new learning environment, and he didn't overwhelm them with too much screen time. Thank you for this video. It gives me an idea of how to begin my new journey. After almost 25 years as a traditional classroom teacher, I have seen a lot of changes but never would have thought teaching would change so quickly. However, I am up for the challenge and working hard to prepare to make this year successful for all of my students. Hoping everyone stays healthy and has a happy school year. Our children need success! If you are a parent, please be patient with us as we make this transition together.
    Thanks

Thank you, Mr. Greg for letting us see into your amazing first day! You are a star and the children that have you as a teacher are so blessed. You are rising up and doing what we all need to do. Make the best of the situation we are in. You will have an amazing year with your kiddos and they will be okay. This is NOT what any of us WANT to be doing, but it’s what needs to be done. Kids are resilient. Teachers will set the tone for the year. If I had a K’er I would be so happy to have my child in your class. Have a great year!
