Ranking Every Sport from the Wii Sports Series

- The Wii Sports series is full of great sports, but some of them are better than others. So I decided to rank every single one of them from worst to best! I had to play a few hours of Switch Sports and Wii Sports Club for this video, which was a true sacrifice on my end.

Wii Sports Resort was truly a very special game. Whomever made the decision to have Wuhu Island, you deserve the biggest pay raise
seriously. Such a fantastic game
So true I love the game and spent hours playing it as a kid
When i first read about the game, before it's release, i was incredibly hyped. I even dreamed about it, but in my dream there were actually 36 different sports. That was not the case in reality, sadly, but 16 was good enough for sure.
"Whomever made" 💀
@@SecretAgentRandyBeans111I'd guess he's not a native speaker, just like me, but go ahead making fun of people actually spending time to learn your goddamn language. How many foreign languages do you speak, fluently? None? Oh, what a surprise.
I went to visit my grandma at her retirement home and they have a whole wii bowling league with different teams and everything that meet every week to compete. I got to go and watch and it looked like hella fun!
That’s honestly really wholesome and cool. Good on your grandma for having a lot of fun there. :]
omg my grandma has the same thing at her retirement home lol. she's a beast at it too
tell grandma im on my way, boutta clap everyone in bowling
This is too wholesome, you’re grandma seems really cool! I have so many good memories of me and my grandparents, who normally couldn’t play video games, playing wii sports and even kicking my butt in it. I hope this is what I’m like when I’m older lol
Why do gramdmas lives in retirement homes in your country? In my country gramdmas lives in their own house
I think the main problem for Swordplay on Switch is that having it work for multiplayer means that it somehow has to be balanced for both players, whereas the single-player experience could just skew it in a way that makes it most fun for the one player playing.
Yeah if you're playing online, definetly. But back in the days of Resort it was also fun when your oponent lost their mind and just started randomly shaking their remote. I enjoyed that it didnt feel all too serious and you could laugh about it
@@Armbrust210 Even offline in Resort it was kinda annoying since blocks were pretty much impossible to read with how fast you could turn/shake the remote. Half of our matches turned into staring contests and tiring out wrists since nobody could get any reliable hits.
My main problem with it is the same he has with Club boxing. It seems way more stiff than it needs to at times which is a bit annoying.
frisbee dog might be 18th place, but it's also S-tier because it gave the world Mii Doggy, the trendsetter that paved the way for future Mii Animals
wii fit jogging maybeeee tooo
The Wii Sports series is undoubtedly my favourite Nintendo series. So seeing this video is a treat for me and my nostalgia for this series. Thank you, Nintendo Hero! :)
Swordplay is the best, no questions.
Naw Table Tennis Tennisnand bowling is better
Nah, 100% basketball
@@RCD-3070 basketball sucks
i agree
Nah there is no best but everyone has their favourites
Spocco Square is a worthy successor to Wuhu Island. I just wish we got some free roam options to explore it.
My biggest problem with switch sports was the lack of exploration. Especially with the tips talking about the bus taking players from venue to venue. Also boxing RIP. I think boxing would’ve been perfect on switch I never really liked it on Wii but I think it’s one of the few sports the joycons could help with.
the switch version is the biggest dog shit i have ever seen. The miis are away and you dont have the options to slowly rising your level up against cpu. After playing the second time against the cpu on difficult i won, there is no challange in single player mode anymore. Swich sports is a downgrade against resort, less games and no funny things to do.
Hey! It’s CZsworld. Wasn’t expecting a horror-tuber to be here in a Nintendo Sports video
The miis are still there tho?@@Daniel-bg1ls
@@sonichasafishonhishead1462 yes they are but they look very different and bad. Also nintendo put them back after the shitstorm, they just wanted to use the new cancer chars.
I'm just glad you acknowledged how stiff Switch Sports is and how unnatural that feels when you're playing it compared to the 1 to 1 translation of moves from prior games. *Especially in Swordfighting*. I would've also ranked Chanbara really low. Can't be mad at the other rankings, i'm just happy that someone else understands
I really like the rankings, they seem fair. I just personally feel that OG Bowling needs a boost. It’s the best OG Sports game.
Exactly. Besides my brother, I can’t find a single person who objectively hates OG Wii Bowling. It’s the most universally liked sport in the series.
Literally @@wavyplaysgames every single grandfather/mother who played the wii played it for bowling
Exactly@@pablosolermontanos641
this list is a joke. GOLF 6TH, ARE YOU KIDDING? GOLF IS ANNOYING IN ALL VERSIONS
cycling 11th? I know wii sports resorts is the best but it really makes a big effort to put boring games of it in good positions.
Maybe its the nostalgic feeling
@@marcosaugusto7599buddy golf is widely considered the best lol
Not to mention, Switch Sports doesn't have different outfits when you're playing a different sport from what I've seen while in the older games, the clothes you wear shows what kind of sport it represents to make it more authentic. Switch Sports for odd reasons have you keep your drip all the time. Realistically, having that drip on you will tire you out in the long run instead of a good ol' jersey.
there’s different outfits that match traditional clothing for each of the sports
4:21 never thought I’d be featured in a CZcams video lol
Do you know him?
@@adanalyst6925 nah, I was just playing against him in an online match. Didn’t think it’d be used for a CZcams video tho lol
@@Kirito_107Did you win
@@Ochoa685I don’t remember exactly how many matches we played but I know I won one and he won one
Aside from the obvious bangers (swordfighting, boxing, island flyover, etc.) I think the table tennis gamemode might be my favorite. The precision of the shots feels so satisfying, and maneuvering the CPUs out of position to deliver some devastating shots will never not be incredible. Plus, adding in topspin and backspin as well as some other subtle variations on each shot turns what would be a slap-fest into a very well thought-out duel, where placement and power really do matter.
Thank you it doesnt get enough recognition and hitting a perfect curving shot that hits the corner of the table is so satisfying
Now THIS is S tier content!
One thing that people usually don't notice or mention is how Switch sports doesn't go out of its way to try to recapture the nostalgia and atmosphere that the Wii versions had. They knew that probably would fail horribly, so they just took the risk of making something fresh with the old concept. Its far from perfect, but I think they did Wii sports justice by making an effort to make something different enough to have its own identity within the series.
All they needed to do was give it a new location with new sports related to that. What they did was make a lazy imitation of the original games while building nearly nothing on them.
The artstyle would be good if they didn't focus on the really underdeveloped, animal crossing-like characters that go against what the series was remembered for.
Making online the main focus didn't work very well. local multiplayer was the focus of the series just as it was the focus of the wii and for people playing single player there was a progression in technique and difficulty of the opponents. Online should have been an optional mode to add replay value.
Talking of replay value, the lack of stamps hurts the replayability of the game in the same way the lack of opponent progression did. It hurts replayability and reasons to play single player.
The selection of sports was really lacking. Badminton, volleyball and tennis are too similar that they should be different submodes within tennis. this is something that would excusable if there were a good amount of sports. (also table tennis is way more fun than tennis because of its higher skill ceiling)
Bowling removes the option to release the ball when you want which removes a bit of strategy. The submode feels like a worse version of spin control as there is less differences between each of the "levels".
Chambara feels less responsive because you're locked to swinging in eight directions. The sport also feels smaller because it is just a submode to swordplay.
Football feels nothing like wii sports as it is way to complex and hardly uses motion control.
Golf only uses courses from the originals which would be fine if the game released with it.
The game also has an overall lack of content as it only has six sports (with all the issues mentioned) and doesn't even have one submode for each sport. Wii sports included the fitness mode with three extra submodes for each of the 5 sports. Resort includes 12 sports with most having two or three submodes. In my opinion the game doesn't even surpass the original game that was free with the console, nintendo didn't even try.
Incorrect
I honestly think it's overhated, it's not as incredible as the ogs but it's not trying to and I enjoy it,I just wish they updated it more often, maybe add some more sports or at the very least some modes
People are hating bc it’s newer but I 100% agree with your take. They’ll say exactly what your saying in like 5 year bro
Wakeboarding is actually my favorite of Wii Sports Resort
Golf in resort will always be my favourite
Same but for switch
My fellow wuhu island connoisseur has uploaded. Today is a good day. I’m the same as you but I just love island flyover so much it just can’t be topped
I absolutely LOVE Swordplay, no cap. I absolutely loved the humor when you play as two players and knock each other in the pool at the same time. Showdown was very much my personal favorite because of how addicting it is to knock every single person to the ground. And taking out Matt, the final opponent? Definitely the best. Swordplay is in my opinion the most exhilarating and personally my best favorite game in Wii Sports EVER.
So weird to see Switch Sports judged on the same scale as the OGs, even Club. Flashing between the segments they hardly look like the same series. On that note, always been a bowling Stan but Switch Sports never had anything in the slightest similarity to baseball, so I've had a longing bias to that recently
Yeah, the sports they chose hit the exact wrong balance of creating new interesting games that work within the limitations of the system and milking the content from the last good games.
such a good video, hearing all the soundtracks from the different games I adored, that I didn't even know I remembered and missed was a trip down memory lane x
Archery, wakeboarding, and basketball have always been my favorites, but I also love going back to baseball, bowling and golf, whether on the OG or on Resort occasionally for the nostalgia. My family has had a Wii since 2009 and I've loved it ever since. Couple years ago ours just suddenly stopped working, but one of our cousins had one they were getting rid of, and we got it from them without a second thought. I love Wii! I was always jealous of my friends when they got Xboxes and Switches, but man, now I definitely don't regret only ever having Wii.
Basketball will always be my favorite
same, i love breaking the cpu's ankles and getting a slam dunk immediately after with the replay
Great Video. The Nostalgia for Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort is always wonderful. I also love you transition from one sport to another by doing something impressive in said sport like landing 100 points in wakeboarding or shooting a bullseye.
Your explanation of why you love Island Flyover is exactly how I feel about it, too. It’s awesome knowing that other people love that mode and Wuhu Island as much as I do
I really think you should do a video on Wii Play and Fit too, they're just so formative for so many people today
Here you go:
#1: Tanks
#2: Billiards
#3: Wii Fit Soccer
Then the rest of them.
Wii fit plus has some gems
This was the perfect video to watch for me this year. I came home for Thanksgiving, and one of the first things I did with my brother was boot up Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. I ate delicious food with my family, and relived my childhood with my brother. I will always have a place in my heart for these games. Wonderful memories. Then we sat down and watched this awesome video which perfectly described the sports that we love so much.
Another great video Hero! I've been watching your videos since you released the Wuhu Island History. I love your narration, and your personal attachment to the titles that you showcase; it shows in the quality of your videos.
Side note: Have you ever considered making a video on the Mario & Sonic Olympic games series? That is another great Nintendo Sports series that My brother and I love. I recently purchased a New In Box Mario & Sonic Winter Olympic Games (we mistakenly sold our original copy) and we had a blast playing this one as well. We even had our original save files!
Take care, and Thanks!!!
The hero we didn't know we needed but has returned with another great video
Also the sword games & island fly over are my favorite sports
Wii Sports is a collection of five sports simulations, designed to demonstrate the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii Remote to new players. The five sports included are Tennis, Baseball, Bowling, Golf, and Boxing.
and you're not a real person
Proof?
Set off on a journey to a tropical island where an array of fun activities await. In Wii Sports Resort, the sequel to the engaging Wii Sports, you'll discover a wide range of new sports and activities you can play anytime. Go head-to-head with your friends and family in the ultimate sports showdown set in a tropical paradise
Great video! I absolutely love this series and now I’m really in the mood to have some friends over for Wii Sports Resort.
According to the average position of all of the sports in the games, this is their ranking:
4th - Club (avg position 23.2)
3rd - Switch (avg position 20.1)
2nd - Resort (avg position 10.6)
1st - Wii (avg position 10)
I have never heard of wii sports club in my life but my favorites will forever be og wii sports bowling, boxing, and especially tennis, where everyone knows the only way to play is by rapidly shaking the wiimote incessantly instead of playing with any kind of skill,
Great video!
This is the best ranking of the sports I’ve seen, I agree with every single ranking, which almost never happens. Wuhu Island is the best! I also appreciate you not putting baseball at the very bottom like most people do, I have so much fun with that one, and it’s always fun seeing who you’re lineup will be because some miis are better than others at certain sports. Great video, now I want to go play some wii sports and wii sports resort!
Golf is my favorite, love playing it online in switch sports and grinding rank with friends 🔥 great video
Nss golf is quite good, but there are glitches Nintendo hasn't fixed
i think watching me play wii sports swordfighting as a child was my parents' first realization i may have some pent-up anger and issues with emotional regulation. it was important therapy to me
I only have resort, and played club once during a free trial. I can confidently say I agree with your ranking, as Sword Play, Island Flyover and Archery have always been my favourites from that game, and you ranked them highly!
My favorite is probably og wii sports tennis, followed by wii sports resort island flyover, basketball, swordplay, and table tennis
Swordplay showdown was always my extreme favorite.
Such a well made video! Was a great watch.
Yoo nintendo hero nice vid this was a vid i had a long time in mind and wanted to exist but now the time its right. It happend :D !!!!!
wooo! sunday morning and a nintendo hero sports video :DD
I never had resort, but my grandparents did so I got to play it in bits and pieces. However, we always ended up back at the original bowling. Some of my favorite memories there are just us playing wii sports bowling for hours.
My brother and I would spend hours on our wii at home playing mario kart wii and super mario bros wii but the thing we played the most was sports. I had little baseball bat, tennis racket, and golf club attachments for my wii remotes and we would mess around in those sports so often. But our favorite was always boxing when it was just us two. We would play for hours.
I miss it so much.
Great video, as always!
Finally a Good tier list good to see sword play #1 and air sports #2 basketball and boxing up there too
Archery is my all time favorite, it's so addictive chasing that perfect score. Bowling is my 2nd, then Baseball. I would agree that bowling, baseball and golf are totally annoying on Sports Club. And I paid $50.00 for that stupid disc. I went to back to the original Baseball & Bowling, along with Archery on Resort, and that combo is entirely satisfying.
I think table tennis on resort is my favourite, the return challenge is perfect for practicing against different shots, the classic match is extremely challenging but fun nonetheless. No game is the same, Lucia is deffo the best champion behind Matt and even tho I've beaten her 5 times, each time is a challenge.
Real it’s so underrated i dont think it’s the best sport but it’s my favorite
honestly, wakeboarding don't get enough respect. But it helps if you're really good at it.
if you are still making these.... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO WII PARTY!! its my favorite game of all time and super underrated imo!!
you have got such great opinions and I think I need to go back and play boxing do some training and finally beat Matt but swordplay and island flyover are so much fun
This is the perfect list thank you
I like the rewards you get for beating champions in Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. For example, silver gloves in boxing, purple saber in swordplay and evening time, night time in basketball 1v1, the shoe in Ping Pong, etc.
I'm glad that you put Table Tennis in the top 10, it was always my favorite other than bowling, Swordplay, and Island Flyover. (I always the best at Table Tennis in my family.)
Whenever I see wuhu island I smile and think of the endless possibilities that Nintendo could make and fills me with that nostalgia and excitement that nothing else can bring me
Great to see the love for swordfighting. Absolutely loved that game as a kid
Pretty reasonable rankings. I agreed on most of the placements. It's incredible what they were able to achieve in Wii sports resort. It has just everything.
Swordplay, Boxing, Island flyover, baseball! Those sports are hard to beat.
Personally I love the switch sports golf. They did also add three new holes, but I agree they should’ve added more. The different clubs are pretty cool too. I’d put it in my top 10
No they did not add 3 new holes, infact they deleted 9 holes. Each of the first 3 games added significant content to golf, only for switch sports to go backwards
if youre talking about the special holes for the 3 "new" holes, they aren't new, they've been in golf since resort
OG bowling should absolutely be number 1. If you say wii sports everyone will picture that mode.
Volleyball should be way higher, i had so much fun with that sport
I love Wii sports and Wii sports resort. I loved the background music at the end of some of these sports like bowling and golf. I also love playing baseball bowling and golf on Wii sports and basketball bowling golf and island flyover on Wii sports resort. I even defeated the basketball champions on my first try.
I played OG Baseball all the time...I ended up playing it so much I went rounds with pure Out of the Parks cause I took it so seriously as a kid...my arm would be sore for hours from playing OG Sports and Sports Resort lol
14:10 RIP Black T-shirt guy to the left.
Frisbee golf is extremely fun to play when you have friends or family over. The controls are very good and intuitive
I honestly find the switch version of golf best just for the controls sure it lost charme but its very little luck involved which i appreciate
totally agree, I also really like it’s online format and it’s color palette. Feels really good to play, though wish putting was a bit more clear on power
Ok first of all I agree with the og tennis placement and the cycling and of course sword play swordplay and OG tennis along with bowling are massive parts of my childhood man
I remember when i used to play wii sports resort with my sister and my grandpa for hours very fun
Extremely good list 👏
I was exited for soccer/football in Nintendo sports I played it for hours, and after a while it felt boring so I played tennis in Nintendo sports after like 30-45 mins it got boring. Nothing will beat the Og wii sports or wii sports resort.
This is genuinely placement for placement. My ideal tier list
Wii sports golf is the only golf video game that:
A. I enjoy
B. I can shoot under par under any circumstance.
Its wild how weirdly great it is
This is actually a super fair list lol. I'd probably change a few things around but not much.
I feel like this embodies how most of us feel about the last three Nintendo consoles. The Wii was iconic and one of the greatest, most revolutionary consoles ever. The motion control gimmick worked perfectly, the games that came out for it were great, and we all sat around grinding it with friends. It helps that a lot of Gen Z were kids when it came out.
Wii U was just the Wii, but with a couple extra gimmicks that didn’t work that well, and every game just felt a bit worse. It really was just a worse version of the Wii that endlessly struggled to recreate the same magic, and that’s how Wii Sports Club went. It never could touch Resort or the OG.
The Nintendo Switch was a bit of a return to form. It has had a lot of great games, it’s great for big parties, the graphics are much better… but it’s just not quite what the Wii was. It’s more polished for sure, but it doesn’t have the revolutionary charm that the Wii had. Sure, part of it for me is that I’m 22 now and not 6 years old, but the Wii captured everyone’s attention, including adults, teenagers, grandparents. Everyone played Wii Sports and Mario Kart Wii. The Switch is just a good console; it’ll never really have the same pull that the Wii had.
I wasn't allowed to play Wii Sports boxing because it was violent haha... I did play Wii Sports Resort Swordplay though (without my mother's knowledge of course) and loved it. I'm happy to see Island Flyover get the love it deserves too... there's nothing like an open world to explore 😊
This is such a valid list, i miss prime wii they need to make a better version of switch sports
loved playing swordplay with my friends in my childhood mostly when we switched playing showdown
My sister and I playing bowling, baseball and golf, etc on og game and playing training levels with the power throws in the original bowling where the pins gets more and more as you play. We also would play the tennis targets on the brick wall, we would always see who could get the most while I just tried targeting the brick wall and destroying it😂. Great memories with her.😊
I always would play boxing by myself and do the punch bag training challenge where you knock as many as you can before the time ran out to see how my fast I could punch and start swinging your arms around.😊
I’ve played resort but don’t own it only the original.
I never had og Wii sports but I had Wii sports resort although I spent a lot of time playing sword play table tennis, golf and bowling are my favourite I have so many memories of playing them with my family
Your top 2 is absolutely spot on icl
I would actually give Switch Sports a shot if they added Baseball
Island flyover and sword showdown brings back soo many memories
I remember showdown making me rage soo much
good list, hope it gets more views
Amazing video, you should do a video about the link between we ski, we ski and snowboarding and Go Vacation. Or a video another video about Splatoon.
Bowling, Basketball, and Boxing will always be my favorites.
as a competitive table tennis player, table tennis has to be my favourite sport im the series, normal tennis is a VERY close second though
Your points are valid, I couldn’t have made a better list myself
That wii sports club mode where the pins are lined up is cool
Tier List
S: Bowling (Club, OG, Resort), Swordplay, Baseball (OG), Boxing (OG), Basketball
A: Baseball (Club), Air Sports, Tennis (OG, Club, Switch), Cycling
B: Bowling (Switch), Golf (OG, Resort, Club), Badminton, Table Tennis (freaking Lucia ruins my table tennis career), Frisbee, Archery
C: Bowling (Switch), Wakeboarding, Power Cruising
D: Golf (Switch), Chambara,
F: Volleyball, Soccer, Boxing (Club)
I like the OG bowling because you can throw the ball high as heck in the air and get a good throw that way haha
island flyover was my shit when wii sports resort came out. exploring the island was so much fun
Ranking soccer that low is wild. It's so fun and satisfying!
i had never seen wii sports club gameplay and i jumped so hard when i heard the "out" in baseball
Im glad the air stuff was placed so high.
Im gonna get a wii soon and the first thing I’m doing is getting wii sports, wii sports resort and wii play
WHAT when I was a kid, I always thought the slicing one was the only one! I am playing it right now!
we need all of these og games on the switch sports ASAP especially basketball and the resort games.
Your aware online play is optional on switch sports and you can play with ais instead. Seems like lots of the time the only problem you have with a switch sports game is waiting online which shouldn't be seen as a negative since you don't have too
Thank God, someone ranked these
Cycling over OG bowling and air sports in No. 2 is crazy
I agree with his top three except for boxing. Resort bowling beats that. My main issue with so many of the switch versions that the joy cons don’t feel heavy nor substantial enough to work like the Wii remotes did as controllers. The Wii remotes felt like the weight made a ton of difference with some of the games like bowling, tennis, baseball, swordplay etc. made such a difference. I think volleyball and badminton work well with the lower weight but too many of the sports need something with more weight to feel good.
My Rankings for the wii series:
1. Wii Sports Resort (my favorites: Cycling, basketball, golf, frisbee, bowling, archery, table tennis, skydiving, island flyover, canoeing)
2. Wii Sports
3. Wii sports Club
4. Nintendo switch sports
My favorite is Table Tennis because it's the one I'm the best at. Also, I have a problem with your ranking of swordplay (Sports Resort); after 20 minutes your shoulder is soar for a solid 2 hours.
This video feels insane to watch
