The "Publish for android" button was greyed out on my project, and I spent quite a while bashing my head against a wall trying to figure out what was wrong. As soon as I moved the quest version to a separate scene, however, it let me upload it. (I previously had the PC and Quest versions in the same scene, but the SDK gave me absolutely no information on why it wouldn't let me upload the Quest version.)
It's still greyed out for me

hii! great video i’ve been searching for a video for the longest time and you have been the most descriptive and helpful. But i recently became a quest 2 user and i want to get avatars off of gum road because it seems like the best place other than avatar worlds to get avatars. here’s my thing though, i have no idea how to get the avatar onto vrchat, and there’s no videos on youtube that explain that unless i’m blind lol. can you please make a video on it or explain it to me here? again, great video!!

Hey Amber, I got a quick question.. After going through the tutorial, if afterwards I want to make updates to the avatar or change a material, edit a tattoo or something later on.. How would you go about doing that? Would you have to go back to the beginning and repeat the process, uploading the normal avatar with the updated Materials/or edits.. then reupload the quest version? Thanks^
Yes. Just make sure the corresponding scene is loaded before switching from windows to android or your Unity may bug out :) So if you're switching to pc, load the pc scene and remove the quest scene, then switch using file>build settings. And vice versa.

1k textures are the best for optimization but you may be able to get away with 2K if you don't have many materials and your avatar file isn't too big. Good luck!
I need help with this! I tried to upload a version of my Quest avatar but when I click 'Publish for Android', all I get is 'FileNotFoundException' for no reason, even without broken scripts or disabled future proof checkmark.

HELP, How do i fix my shaders? No matter how much i try to change them to a different shader its still not fixing it! :(

whenever i try to reimport the fbx after fixing the vertex colors, the object is weirdly broken or invisible i've tried a bunch of things but nothing seems to fix this
how are you making it more then 1 or 2 materials people have said it will not work and when i tried it my avatar showed up all gray
How do you save a scene as a quest scene
the avatar I purchased and ported into unity uploaded to VRChat using the android build. But I did get a blueprint error before it said everything was successful. Then when I go to quest 2 VRC and go to the avatars tab, there is a second where a section called "created" shows but then it disappears and my avatar is nowhere to be found. I'm guessing it didn't work.
Sorry for commenting on such an old video but would you happen to know why my avatar uploaded for quest has two avatars spawned? One moves like normal and then there’s a duplicate tposing…
What’s a good size to lower pc textures for quest I’m having trouble uploading an avatar because the size exceededs 10MB it’s just barely over its currently 14.85MB...
I'd select 1K textures in your unity file. When you click on your texture it'll bring up the max size it allows you to render at, and if you select 1K or lower it should help a lot :)

Hi! I have a question. At 2:47 you change all of your Mats' shaders to Quest Shaders, but when I do it the models shaders dont change at all. I can't replace the Skinned Mesh Renderer Materials. Any clue on how to change it?
Just got it! Open Skinned Mesh Renderer and open Materials. Assign the duplicates!
when i go in builder it says i have no avatar or scene descripter and it happened after i deleted the main scene
so Even when you ask someone to make one, Do you still have to do this??
What i'm confused is that you can port it over but your avatar has over 60k polys so it will be blocked by quest by default.

I am completely new to this. Just download the correct version of unity but it could download visual studio community 2019. I am currently trying to download it a different way, idk if it will help. If anyone has any advice how to get it to download please reply!
My eyelashes and eyebrows are broken, just a full block of blackness around the eyes. How do I fix this

But I got a really irritating problem. When I get to the last step to build and publish for android in the SDK window, it keeps telling me im using a certain shader. I've gone back and forth selecting, unselecting, saving, reselecting, saving the matcap shader and trying to upload again but it keeps saying im using the other shader. Anyone got a fix or advice?
Check that the material of your avatar and all the props it uses has its shaders changed. For me, it was the shader of my knife which I use as an emote that had standard shaders

i was on the final step of actually importing the model into VRC, when it sad the the lightmapped shader i was using wasnt available for quest. I used this shader for the whole model and its the only one that works, or else everything is black. please i need to fix this, this took me ages D:

Yes unfortunately the quest shaders are exremely limited and don't have nearly as many options as the PC shaders do. It's an unfortunate side effect of having to make quest compatible avatars. The shaders are optimized for android.
hey everytime I go to upload my quest avatar it pauses uploading when searching for my android SDK which I have no clue what that is and opens my file explorer
when you install 2018.4.20f1 you can choose some android thing and u have to choose that to do it

I have several other videos on my channel that go over this, but the short answer is you'll need to import your fbx into blender to fix it up. Check out my blender beginner tutorial, that should help a lot!

You’ve helped me soo much on making quest avatars , now I’ve ran into an issue with shaders. Soo I have one avatar and as I put the shader on in unity everything looks fine but once I go in game , he eyelashes looks like blocks lol. I’m not sure how to fix that problem at all tbh in the pc version it’s fine but the quest I’m not sure how to work with eyelashes and not having them all black and just looking like a mess. Please help thank you ! 🖤
This sounds like its a transparent texture issue. Quest shaders dont support transparency so render all transparent parts of the texture in black. You will need to make changes to the model either ensuring the meshes are only as large as the non transparent parts of the texture or you remove the offending parts and paint them directly on to the face texture. Is this a model exported from vroid by any chance? This is one of a number of common issues you need to fix with those to make them work well on quest.
@@branbroken im having that same exact issue with my quest avatar and I created it using vroid it messes with the eyebrow and lashes and I I need help with that
@@esha373 as mentioned vroid does its eyebrows and eyelashes (and the eyes also suffer from the transparency issues but not quite to same extent) with a seperate plane mesh and transparency in the teature. Quest will render anything transparent black. To fix you need to remove those features. Either in vroid by having those layers all transparent then on export set to remove transparent meshes, or after export in blender deleting thise meshes(easiest imo if your already doing extra work in blender to modify the model) this will leave your face a bit empty but need to paint the eyebrows and eyelashes directly on to the face texture. You can do that in vroid and export the texture or in any image editing software.
im having a weird problem with unity and really had nowhere to turn other than here since i cant seem to find any tutorials on how to fix it anywhere. everytime i try to upload an avatar to vrchat i seem to get the same error and i cant find a way to fix it. the error basically says im missing some sort of prefab which is stopping me from uploading anything even avatars ive paid for cant seem to upload so its really been ticking me off. If anybody has a solution or needs more explanation please respond. i could really use the help
And you've tried multiple avatars, and multiple different unity projects? Are you using 2018.4.20f1? What about the SDK, are you using the latest one? Is your FBX set up correctly as a humanoid? There are many things this could be.
@@AskAmberOfficial thank you so much for your help, I have finally figured out what it was. All the problem was is I had missing scripts in components that I had no use for and I had to delete. I really appreciate the help!
Are you not supposed to have any bones? Or just remove the dynamic bones.
You need the bones that are with the model to move, you just need to remove all components of dynamic bones and dynamic bone colliders.

You need to publish to the android platform, you probably published to the windows platform :)

hey I tried this out and it didn't seem to work unity just crashed with the sdk
I'm not sure why, as long as you have the right scene loaded it should work, but I have heard of Unity doing this in the past. I'm sorry I don't know the fix other than what I went over in the video. Seems to be an SDK issue that VRC needs to look into.

Whenever i switch platform to android, it always crashes whenever VRChat SDK is imported in the project. It happens with both SDK's. Idk how to fix this issue. It even does it when no model is imported in the project

@@AskAmberOfficial its mainly crashing from the VR SDK package. I created a new project with nothing in it, and then I imported the VR SDK into the project, and then it crashed when i changed to Android platform. Then i tried the other way where i first set it to Android Platform, and it crashed when I imported the VR SDK.

Every time I put the sdk and try to transfer to android it crashes and it doesn’t do it. If I transfer to android then put the sdk it crashes and brakes the file. (BTW I use build settings to transfer to android)

if you’re still having this problem try checking the last thing the loading thing says when it crashes, for me i had to get rid of textures and after i got rid of them i had no more problems

ctrl + click each or ctrl+A to select all. Then ctrl+D to duplicate

Do you have only the quest model in the hierarchy? Any pc shaders/dynamics etc in that section will crash unity often. Also did you use the file>build settings option instead of using the one in the sdk control panel to switch to android? The sdk one will mess it up as well as having a pc avatar loaded.

you need the original creator to give you the model files to bring it into unity. another option could be to search the assets up online and find a similar model to put into unity, but there’s no real way to get the avatar unless you get it from the original owner if its not given online
