  • One of a kind Flight Simulator using Lego Technic! The plane really does Fly like a kite :)
This model is powered by 39 powered up L motors for propulsion using 12 control+ smart hubs.
I’ve used the speed of sound and RPM setup, for more info on the drivetrain check my previous video.

A little video editing advice: you could have set a Ken Burns effect ton your cloud incrustation to make the scene even more realistic and simulate the plane’s movement by making the background moving relatively to the plane. An old technique used in old movie when filming car moving and having the background moving instead of the car standing still.

When i was young i had this large and powerful fan in my house and i would point it upwards and place the lego city police chopper set 7741 on top and it would actually lift off but then quickly veer to the edge and fall and break. i wish i had the technic peices and the budget at the time that you had here. you could probably do the same with the heli and the tilt would effect rotor speed changing the height over the fan.
Also if you attatch a second fan at another axis it could make the plane more stable by reducing the yaw

while this is quite creative it's not exactly aerodynamically impressive (?)
if you throw enough air at a flat surface it will push the flat surface upwards. You can see the lego plane is not dynamically stable, it would have fallen off the airflow source if not for the wires. But it does seem relatively balanced to the centre lift, which surprises me. Would be cool to see some actual aerodynamic testing, but that's probably something that requires lots of aeronautical understanding, so no pressure.
I'd be interested to see a proper lego wind tunnel though, although not sure how exactly that would be feasible without using a material like paper sheets to pressurise the tunnel
