We're glad you were in Chicago with some of the best doctors in the country. I just want to say James. It's okay to not be okay. I spent 22 hours a day at NWMH's ICU watching my better half go from "he's going to be okay!" to "you should make arrangements". Tubes everywhere bub. On an otherwise healthy 34 yo guy. 5 and a half months I sat there. Every day. Because it wasn't tomorrow that wasn't promised. Shit. 4pm wasn't promised. Our insurance was thru my job (and expensive AF, but an Irish gal and Italian (ish) guy? It really wasn't optional. Lol. So 5.5 months later, on 5/14/14 his family unplugged him. I was happy to have help when I saw them. Wrong call. I couldn't go back to work. I was broken. Then I got a bill for $8.5M. Yup. Million. $8.5. But no one left the hospital with me. I went irish redhead batshit crazy and their billing department sent it to my insurance, but it had hit my credit at that point and even if you reverse that bill they don't give you your credit back. I still haven't been able to go back to work. I'm shattered? So please, even though you didn't want people to see you with tubes and stuff, which is intensely personal, could you please help me spread the word that tubes can be okay when it keeps you alive? And not being okay is okay. And we're all just human and we all need support and community no matter how many tubes you got or how many machines you're hooked up to? It was, and continues to be, the darkest, loneliest place I never bought a ticket for. It's kinda 2 different points. But I'm really really glad, that you're back out here in our atmosphere. We're glad you were in Chicago with some of the best doctors in the country. I just want to say James. It's okay to not be okay. I spent 22 hours a day at NWMH's ICU watching my better half go from "he's going to be okay!" to "you should make arrangements". Tubes everywhere bub. On an otherwise healthy 34 yo guy. 5 and a half months I sat there. Every day. Because it wasn't tomorrow that wasn't promised. Shit. 4pm wasn't promised. Our insurance was thru my job (and expensive AF, but an Irish gal and Italian (ish) guy? It really wasn't optional. Lol. So 5.5 months later, on 5/14/14 his family unplugged him. I was happy to have help when I saw them. Wrong call. I couldn't go back to work. I was broken. Then I got a bill for $8.5M. Yup. Million. $8.5. But no one left the hospital with me. I went irish redhead batshit crazy and their billing department sent it to my insurance, but it had hit my credit at that point and even if you reverse that bill they don't give you your credit back. I still haven't been able to go back to work. I'm shattered? So please, even though you didn't want people to see you with tubes and stuff, which is intensely personal, could you please help me spread the word that tubes can be okay when it keeps you alive? And not being okay is okay. And we're all just human and we all need support and community no matter how many tubes you got or how many machines you're hooked up to? It was, and continues to be, the darkest, loneliest place I never bought a ticket for.
It's kinda 2 different points. But I'm really really glad, that you're back out here in our atmosphere. Please keep bringing us the only medicine that counts, and which you couldn't stop bringing us. Laughter. Without it, there's nothing.
