John Franzese, nicknamed “Sonny,” was a legendary figure in the American Mafia. He was born at the beginning of the 20th century and died only at the start of the 21st, becoming the oldest mobster in history. He kept ties with all the iconic members of Cosa Nostra and became one of them himself.
Sonny was fully immersed in the life of a mobster and followed its rules without exception, which he proved on more than one occasion. He is rightly considered one of the most resilient criminals who never cooperated with the authorities. No matter how many years of imprisonment he was threatened with, Sonny always stayed true to his choice without hesitation. He would pay for it with prison terms, which eventually ran into several decades.
During his long life, this man managed to do many things. He had an affair with Marilyn Monroe, the top beauty symbol of the 20th century. He helped introduce Bob Marley to the world, and he also sponsored the highest-grossing porno ever made in the genre.
Today's story is not just a retelling of a gangster's life. We’re taking a retrospective look at a major part of the history behind the American Mafia through the lens of one man. He saw how the older guys rose from bootlegging alcohol, then participated in the transformation of Cosa Nostra into the dominant crime organization of the States in the 20th century, and finally watched the decline of his organization, which by now, has either gone deep underground, or disappeared altogether.
So if you're interested in hearing the story of the man who probably most embodies the title of “mobster,” then meet John Sonny Franzese, on the other side of the law.

Is Melania KNJAZ´s slovenian brother Denis maybe the biological DNA son to Michael Franzese ? And Slovenian police helped to Russia To STEAL the INHERITANCE from the REAL IDentity jugoslav HEIRS ?
Sam Cooke's murder is still a mystery today but, i think either d police was involved or a hooker's pimp.
At least he didn’t die in prison. He had the last laugh. The establishment wanted him to die in prison but he showed them
He outlived the judge and the prosecutor 😂
This was one of the more informative short documentaries on the Franzese family. I wouldn't say it is the best, but I would rank it in the top 3. Personally, I think it leaves out a handful of important factors in the story that gives insight into the how & why part of what happened. One example is his son Michael Franzese actually tricked the FEDs into thinking he was going to co-operate with them. He never went into Wit-Sec and just walked away from the life. After many many years the FBI realized the game Michael was playing and having no intentions of ever testifying against anyone. This is when they threw Michael in the slammer putting him on diesel therapy (the FEDs form of cruel & unusual punishment without breaking any laws) where they throw you in solitary confinement transferring you around the country to different prisons never staying at one for longer than like 3-4 weeks. Because of the state of limbo your status is in you cannot use the telephone or have access to commissary nor can your family get into touch with you. I forget how long they did this to him, but I know it was over a year. I suppose after they got some pay back plus knowing he wasn't going to break they put him into population. After he did that stretch and out on parole this was when the FEDs came to him to testify against Norby Walters who Michaels father was extremely pissed at around then wanting him taken out Michael was afraid the FBI might again throw him back in prison for parole violation so Michael told them ok I will testify in the Norby Walters case, but I will only tell the truth of what I know to which the FBI agreed. In that trial they ended up only asking Michael a handful of questions that most all of them were concerning Norby's recent activities that Michael knew nothing about since he had not worked together in the last 15-20 years. There was only one question that he could answer yes to which was about an old case that had been settled. Point being Michael already knew what the FEDs were after hence why he agreed and second, he gave nothing up incriminating. So YES, he testified NO he never said anything that ever put anyone in jail. He walked away from the life, but he did it on his own terms not having any interest in putting anyone in jail. THIS IS THE very reason why the FEDs have an issue with him AND why other Mobsters sort of have this jealousy attitude about him because he walked away but didn't have to do what all the others were forced to do and hence get the jacket put on them of a RAT. It's a touchy subject with many of them. I digress, I didn't mean to go into a rant saying too much on that. Lastly, the only other thing I will say keeping it short is at the end it says both Michael & John didn't attend the funeral and the truth is that John was not allowed to witness protection wouldn't authorize it and Michael not ever being in the program was still contacted by the FEDs who advised him it wouldn't be wise for him to either, but Michael called and had it arranged for him to go there to do a private viewing & visit after the funeral ceremony was over. I don't agree with what John did when he wore that wire and gave the FBI information causing his father to go back to prison, but I will say that there is a documentary on here that interviews John allowing him to tell his side of the story and what happened. Basically, he never meant for that to happen to his father and that he was doing it for 2 reasons 1 to get himself some help for drugs and a way to leave that life for good. He claims he made a deal that they wouldn't go after his father, but in the end someone had to go down its a long story and worth watching it is sad to be honest. It shows how stand-up Sonny Franzese was as a father when he went into court with his son about to take the stand against him and Sonny reassured him letting him know he was proud of him & not mad at him for anything. I honestly can say I do not know hardly anyone today that wouldn't play the victim card in this situation poor me look how my own son is testifying against me. Instead Sonny rooted him on giving John the strength he needed to be able to do it and get what it was he needed from them. I cannot believe Hollywood has not yet made a movie about the Franzese Mob story it would be the best one ever covering all aspects of life in general and the roller coaster of the fast life while beating all the odds living to be well over 100 years old is insane.
damn bro read ur whole comment interesting asf and i agree a movie on that would be so good
That was a great review.. ❤
Sonny was a real gangster, but they show on the thumbnail he was 6'2" but he was really 5'7" but jacked
Technically Sonny did have a big part in Bob Marleys early career & being recognised. No one would fund it, the race divide obviously played a part but Sonny (so I’ve heard don’t quote me) liked his music & didn’t care about colour. Some kid said something to him about liking “black music” he had someone break a couple of bones for the insult. & the man smashed Marilyn Munro’s back door in too. Legend.
Man’s a Legend 😏
Nice
Lmaoo I don’t believe the Bob Marley thing we all know the mob was racist and only feared Bumpy Johnson
I'll admit that I didn't know about the Marilyn Monroe part until I read your post.

What sonny's son done on him(not michael)is truly disgraceful, wearing a wire on his 95 year old father to get him put back in prison leaves me speechless,a drug addict he sold his father out to the feds to make it Easier on himself,
at 95? whats the point in going back to jail
Who cares ! at the end of the day they are nothing more than cheap criminals anywway, your a dreamer I guess who wishes they were in this shit ? from too much cheesy spagetti movies

Michael Franzese is a rat as well. He brought an undercover FBI agent around his father Sonny Franzese
The fact that the FEDs had a hard on to lock up a 95 year old man is ridiculous in itself. Add into that getting his addict son to flip on him is insane.
Rosalie Profaci's 1956 wedding to Bill Bonnano was the the factual basis for the GODFATHER ONE wedding scene (1972).
Michael didn't testify against anyone.
He didn't put anyone in jail..

Sonny was the last REALLY man's man we will see. He was the definition of a gangster, he put in work, did his time when necessary and ALWAYS kept his mouth shut. If mafia members were men of honor like he was the mafia would still be a force to be reckoned with to this day. R.I.P. Sonny.
yep.... a "man's man's" lies, cheats, steals and murders...whata guy!
Shit Gangster he spent 50 years inside hardly a mastermind of crime was he
Thank God there weren’t more like him then. The mafia is not a good thing. The world is better off without it. Unfortunately, it’s still around. The news recently had a headline with 10 people from the Gambinos were arrested along with seven others from Sicily. They’re still up to their old tricks.

Jimmy "The Weasel" Fratianno called his book The Last Mafioso. It was a decent read. His circle was the mob in Cleveland and LA, with some dealings with the Outfit in Chicago. He became acting boss of the LA crime family before moving to Ratsville.
Technically, there was no LA crime family. It was a crew at best.
@@K131399 No. They were kind of like the Phildadelphia mob, who had their family but the bosses were installed by New York. In LA the family had a boss and a structure. The boss at Fratianno's time was Dominic Brooklier, obviously not his birth name. But LA answered to the Outfit in Chicago. My understanding is that every mob west of the Mississippi answered to Chicago.
If you call LA a crew then you have to call Philadelphia a crew.
@@K131399LA had a family that's a fact ....people think it you didn't have 200 soldiers and as powerful as new York then that's a crew ...total bullshit.....new York was full of rats ...LA had a small family but it's still a family
Michael. Sonny’s son never testified against anyone. He plead guilty and did his ten years.
Except his youngest son ( Michael ) never snitched on anyone. Everything he testified was already public knowledge. And he never bought his life. He never caused anyone to go to prison..🤦🏻♂ Your story isn't very accurate.. 🤷♂
I have been an armchair mob historian ever since I found out that Meyer Lanskys son paul lived in my hometown of Tacoma Washington about 25 years ago but I had never come across Sonny franzese until I saw his sons channel on CZcams 3 years ago.
Have you looked into Frank Colacurcio, who had ties in the Bananno family. He was the organized crime in Seattle, with his strip club empire. Just got an interesting book called "Seattle Vice: Strippers, Prostitution, Dirty Money, and Narcotics in the Emerald City" . I ended up going to school with one of his sons, and his daughter.
@@oldman9138 yes I'm well acquainted with Frank Colicrucio and his son frank jr. Who just finished a sentence for racketeering. I have always thought it a little strange that the seattle area was pretty much ignored by organized crime nation wide. After all it is a major city with a lot of vice to be exploited. Some people I have talked to who are in the know have told me that it actually has always been here but is kept under raps.
Meyer lansky was a Jew therefore he was no gangster I'm Italian and we use Jews for certain things.

@26:00 you mentioned that Michael was adopted. No, according to Wikipedia he wasn't. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Franzese#Early_life
"Franzese was born May 27, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York to John "Sonny" Franzese, a Colombo crime family underboss, and Cristina Capobianco-Franzese, although Michael had initially questioned who his actual biological father was.[4] Franzese had initially believed that he had been adopted by John after his mother divorced Frank Grillo, whom Franzese thought to be his biological father.[5] Michael says he had gone by the name "Michael Grillo" until he was 18 years old.[6] However, it was later discovered that John, already married with three children, had gotten the 16-year-old Capobianco, a cigarette girl at the Stork Club in Manhattan, pregnant with Michael, so Capobianco married Grillo to avoid having a scandal surrounding having a child out of wedlock. After the mob allowed John to divorce his first wife, Grillo disappeared, and John married Capobianco.[5]"
Sonny is 💯 Michael Franzese’s father
I thought Michael was his legitimate child not adopted? He was just married to another woman at the time and later married Michael's mom after his first divorce.

You lied about John, about Michael, and about Sonny. Seems like you pulled your information from newspapers. It’s very, very bad to lay out bogus material, and it does damage to your channel.
I think all people should say what they mean and mean what they say. Unless they are kidding or some shit. Also, if you're gonna do crime do your time and hold that code. If you're gonna be a good person out here then do that. But don't take down other people if you're doing bad stuff. Plus people will find out in there and that's all bad for you. And if you have to do something bad if you're good just do what you got to do but don't bring other people down. Trust me they don't give a shit if you end up in there and those in there definitely don't go for that shit. What's in your past will bite you in the ass for real. Solid people are hard to find now and it's a different class of honor. Both good and bad if you hold your integrity you will be respected
