Nowadays no one is surprised by the work of an undercover agent. Special agents all over the world infiltrate criminal groups and try to destroy them by gathering as much evidence as possible. They can play the role of the bad guy for years for the sake of it, every day taking the risk of being exposed or killed.
However, this was not always the case. The first operations of this kind were often short and ended with the capture of petty thieves or drug dealers red-handed. The approach began to change in the middle of the 20th century, and our hero today became the first agent in the U.S. who stayed undercover for over five years.
The result of his work produced data that helped the authorities bring charges against more than two hundred American mobsters. Pistone was able to infiltrate first the Colombo family and then the Bonanno family, where he played his role so convincingly that he gained the support of the captain and later street boss Dominick Napolitano, who was going to initiate Pistone's acceptance into the American Mafia.
You can see all this in the movie Donnie Brasco with Johnny Depp and Al Pacino, which was based on Pistone's memoirs. However, the movie left a lot out. In this video, I want to remedy that by telling you the real story of "Donnie Brasco".
So, if you are interested in hearing about how an FBI agent managed to deceive American mobsters for six years, balancing between life and death, then meet Joseph Pistone on the side of law and order.

Pistone's life was on the line a couple of times when he was undercover. He had a problem with a psychotic made member, Tony Mirra, who humiliated him once in front of other people. Pistone later "talked" to Mirra alone, with no one else present and warned him he'd better think twice about doing that again to him. Mirra took note of the warning and never did it again. Pistone's cover was he was a jewel thief who did house robberies. They wanted him to disarm alarms and he kept telling them that it was not possible with this alarm or that alarm. They became suspicious and brought him in for a "sit down" where his life was on the line, if he could not convince them that he was what and who, who he said he was, Pistone would not leave the room alive. After 6 hours of questioning he was able to convince them that he is legit. After 6 years of undercover work, he was told he would be made a "Made Member." He was real proud of that and also thought of the look on their faces after a year or two when they would find out who he really was. He proudly went back to the FBI and explained the situation. The FBI told him under those circumstances they would going to close down the operation, because they might require him to kill someone. The FBI went back to the bar they all paled around in and told Pistone's "compatriots'" who and what he really was. At first they did not believe it and slowly it began dawn on them that it's true and that some of them are in very serious trouble for bringing him as an associate. Tony Mirra was brought in for a sit down for his role and was never seen ever again. Benjamin "Lefty" Ruggiero was about to share the same fate, however the FBI interceded, picked him up on the street and later played a tape of how his associates were going to murder him for his mistake of bringing Pistone in. They explained to Ruggiero that it would be best if he were to cooperate and would receive immunity as well as being hidden if he were to be a cooperating witness. Ruggiero told the FBI he wanted nothing to do with it. He was arrested and released on bail. Word got back to Ruggiero's organization of how he refused to cooperate. He was given a free pass. He was sentenced to 15 years, but was released after 11 because of ill health. He died three years later. A contract worth $500,000 was put on Joe Pistone's life of which was later rescinded by Paul Castellano. FBI agents let it be known that it would not be a good idea for such a contract to be carried out. Because of Pistone, undercover work into organized crime and gangs changed because trusted hired private detectives do research on a new member who is considered to be an associate. Potential undercover agents who live in neighborhoods and are somewhat known by members of ergänzend crime are carefully picked and groomed for undercover work.

One thing you got misconstrued is that he didn’t infiltrate the Bonnano’s first. The Colombo’s were. The sit down you detailed took place with the Colombo’s. He met Tony Mirra and was allowed to go over to the Bonnano’s. Mirra was locked up when he met Benjamin Ruggerio whom put him on record. Once Mirra was released they had a series of sit downs, which Brasco/ Pistone wasn’t around because he was in Florida with the bottle club that another agent had an operation going on.
Of the two people killed, only Sonny Black was called in to be murdered. Mirra was killed in a parking garage by his cousin

Ask him about the allegation by Phil Lucky's nephew that Donnie Brasco rang Lucky's phone the day of the hit and warned Phil Lucky not to go to the meeting where the three capos died.
Frankie Saggio was Phil Lucky's nephew. He moved in mob circles. He knew who was who. He swore Bonanno associate Donnie Brasco was the voice on the phone warning his uncle Phil.

You're pretty good at making videos about the Italian mafia and maybe you should stick to that topic. It would be interesting to see about some important figures of Cosa Nostra, but not about those, about whom there are hundreds of videos on CZcams
