  • You Cannot Have the Old Time Power Without Holiness
    Written & Sung by Larry Petree
    We want the kind of power that the old saints had back then
    We want those kind of blessings where folks were saved from sin
    We talk about anointing where the Spirit moved and blessed
    We want what the old-timers had without the holiness.
    You cannot have what they once had unless you pay the price
    You will not have that special blessing without sacrifice
    They lived in such a manner where their lives would stand the test
    You cannot have that old-time power without holiness
    The world could see a difference in those saints of God of old
    They stood the fires of persecution
    Oh, the stories told
    Thank God there is a remnant, yes, a few are left
    We want what the old-timers had without the holiness.

    Without holiness no man shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12: 14). O that holy living would be given the emphasis it should have in the church it once had, in stead of the lousy false grace talk that has been drilled into the minds of church folk today. The grace of God that brings salvation teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly, IN THIS PRESENT WORLD ( Titus 2:11-12). The Bible teaches us to be obedient children ( not sinners still sinning supposedly saved by grace), not fashioning ourselves according to the former lusts in our (former) ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation ( behavior); Because it is written, BE YE HOLY; FOR I AM HOLY ( 1 Peter 1:15-16).The grace of god doesn't leave us still sinners supposedly saved by grace. No, the grace of God cleansed us from all unrighteousness to henceforth live holy in ALL manner of our behavior. God has not left us under the power of sin once having saved us by his grace. Thank you for sharing this great song.

      @johnsmithSongbird - Without a Christian living a life of repentance, following Christ and His Word, a person isn't going to heaven. You can't be Christian unless you're following Jesus. The word means follower.
      You can pray until you turn green with mold, froth at the mouth "filled" with Spirit (not Biblical at all), cast out devils, heal every hospital empty and still go to hell if you're living in sin. Jesus said "Depart from me, ye that work iniquity. I never knew you."
      In other words, you're a monster. You're filthy and putrid. The one I saved was clean. You walked away from me, forgot you were cleansed and never came back. You're worse than when you started. I don't recognize you at all. "Those that endure unto the end shall be saved." Mt 10:22, 24:13, Mk 13:13

  • @redfaux74
    @redfaux74 Před 6 měsíci +2

    Churches today don't preach this kind of power. They preach feelings and love, love, love.
    This is exactly what the Word says. Most preachers today are just as unsaved as the local barfly and sending their entire congregations straight to hell with them.

      Yes, Friend. My great-great grandmother was a Methodist. She belonged to the Yorkville Methodist Church (Paulding Co., GA). As a little girl, my aunt would go to church with her & she said she would still be shouting at home as she tried to unlock her door. Methodists used to believe in the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. They shouted & spoke in tongues. Yes. Look how far they & most other churches have fallen. Lord help us.

    I must say this brings lots of memories of my family as I grew up…I was raised by old time Holiness parents… my Dad would have had a very difficult time finding a church to attend these days. Nothing seems the same as my younger years. As my Dad would have said “you gotta to set yourself apart from the world……”Now, there are very few who you can actually just see and recognize their beliefs or perhaps their denomination…just a thought.

    This song is literally true and I give you the evidence. I am a close observer of old-line Pentecostal churches in my area. I have been observing for seventy years. Let's take the Church of God, Cleveland, TN. Up until the 1980's the COG still retained some holiness standards (even though they were not very good at explaining this idea to their members). In the mid-1980s I was astounded to learn that the hierarchy in Cleveland, TN suddenly decreed that their denomination would no longer use gospel music and that the annual convention songbook would NO LONGER be produced. As I attended the COG meeting at Mauldin, SC, they suddenly went to contemporary music which in my opinion has no musical value and absolutely no spiritual value. It is nothing but noise and rhythm and little else. But, that was only the beginning. Suddenly, most of the COG members were seen dressing LIKE the world as well as ACTING like the world. The COG women cut off their hair to the scalp so that many of their men had longer hair than they did. This was visible evidence that the spiritual power that the COG ONCE HAD was gone. The words ICHABOD were now written above their door portals. And it remains like that today. All the holiness pioneers who suffered for their religious beliefs were BETRAYED on the spot. Evidently, the COG members did not understand what they had before these awful changes and thus did NOT LIFT a finger to question those spiritually STUPID leaders who sat in their offices in Cleveland, TN. And the story of the COG is repeated in other Pentecostal denominations as well. The only current-day church group that not only believes in holiness but ALSO practices it is the Wesleyan holiness churches that are located in the midwest region of our country. Why the believers in holiness who were COG members did NOT withdraw and establish their own INDEPENDENT churches is a mystery to me to this day.

      So a dress an long hair equals holiness?

    • @uriahpeep9008
      @uriahpeep9008 Před 8 měsíci +6

      @@pinkcats7533Certainly NOT.......anyone with an ounce of spiritual apprehension knows that holiness is primarily a condition of the soul. However, the condition and intent of the soul always seek outer expression.....in fact, it cannot AVOID doing so. Let's take an example. Say you have a person claiming holiness BUT at the same time has an evil tongue that spreads lies and all manner of filth each and every time it SPEAKS. This is a prime example of how the soul of man will always REVEAL what it actually is. This is likewise reflected in how one appears to the world. The soul who aspires to a holy life would NEVER EVER be comfortable appearing in public appearing like the very epitome of WHAT the world loves and admires. This is what holiness means......to be clean and unspotted from the world as a means of expressing what the heart longs for. I hope this clarifies what a reasonable definition of the term holiness is actually concerned with. Lastly, one who tries to fake holiness by using the outward symbols of it BUT at the same time has a spiritual heart full of UNHOLINESS will also be exposed for its sham and hypocrisy because even the world KNOWS who is the person with a heart intent which matches its own hated of goodness and purity. SELAH.
