  • In this video, we're going to learn how to play Undaunted: Normandy! If you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to post them in the CZcams comments below.
    CLARIFICATION: At 10:32 the Guide action lets you move any ONE combat counter up to X tiles. In the video I show two examples, but it could give the impression that you're allowed to move more than 1 piece with this action (which you can't).

    My 10-year-old really loves wars and history and had his grandparents get this game for him. I have pretty frustrating ADHD and would never have been able to get through figuring this game's instructions without this video. I just had a great bonding evening with my son, and I'm very grateful to you for helping us navigate it.

      This kind of comment means a great deal to me. Board games can be so much fun, but sometimes the barrier to entry through the rule book can be a real challenge. So glad this video helped - thank you for letting us know! (and happy RVing, and gaming!)

    Great video! Two things are still unclear though.
    Can you scout a tile where the opponent already has a combat unit on it?
    And also, if you use your rifleman to get in control of a tile, that doesnt contain any control points, would that give any advantage?

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Philip, glad you enjoyed! Yes, you can scout a location with an opponent in it.
      Controlling locations can be helpful, because many actions (like Guide, for example), say things like: "The tile you move onto must be scouted or controlled by your side."

      Speaking as a tabletop gamer, Undaunted has similar features to a lot of modern small unit games.
      Emphasis on command-control over simply blazing away at the enemy.
      Abstracted terrain, so no messing list laser pointers to see if you can snipe his earlobe.
      Robust infantry formations who take a bit of shifting (Unless caught moving in the open).
      Suppression, win the firefight before you advance.
      Features to keep elements of your force hidden or in reserve.

    After playing a card during the initiative phase, do you then draw another card, bringing your hand up to a total of 4? Or do you have a hand of 3 cards every turn, after committing one card to the initiative phase? You're the best, Rodney!

    • @WatchItPlayed

    Quick question.
    Found your video very informative and easier than reading the rules.
    I’ve been playing a few games, but get as with most games these days the rules are sometimes up for interpretation.
    With regards to the control, this includes the reinforcements expansion, if you have an enemy controlling a tile, with a unit on can you move your troops into that tile and neutralise their control? So both tiles are scouted?
    Many thanks if you could clarify this. 👍🏻

    3 questions that weren’t clear to me when reading the rules
    1). When determining initiative you were showing face down cards I presume the player can review their four cards and choose which one to play. Vs having to choose one randomly face down. Do I have that right ?
    2). Immediately after that you started playing a hand with four cards in the video. Presumably after the initiative card is discarded then you play with three to start? The instructions didn’t seem to indicate you draw another card
    3. Instructions say for a Guide “move any combat counter x times”. Wasn’t clear to me whether you could only choose one combat counter to move or you could move as many combat counters as you wanted. You were showing a couple moving but I presume only one can move per action.
    Thanks!

      1) Correct, you can examine your own cards.
      2) That's right, for the purposes of that example, I should have only been holding 3 cards at that point. Sorry for the confusion that caused.
      3) I would need a time stamp to check the example you are referring to where I was moving multiple tokens (but it's possible I was showing various move options, as opposed to executing a formal turn). You have it right though, you would move a single counter.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  Před 3 lety

      When you would take a card action with a combat card and the corresponding combat counter is not on the board, immediately place the counter on the board on the space indicated by the relevant spawn marker. Then perform the action as normal. Do not place a combat counter when you hunker down.

    Does the "Guide" action let you move any ONE unit??? Or does "any" mean you can move as many as you want? As you demonstrated it, you moved two units, but reading the rulebook it seems to mean you can move any ONE unit with the "Guide" action.
