All must travel through the first 2 seasons (and code of honor) to see the paradise beyond.

    I like the new uniform!
I'm actually currently playing this really great Star Trek video game right now called "Star Trek: Resurgence", in which the Tkon empire plays a significant role in the story. So it's ironic that you're watching this episode now!
Also, the Ferengi were originally intended to be the new "big bad" of The Next Generation, like the Klingons were in the original series. Although that didn't really work out, since the Ferengi are rather goofy and not really intimidating at all. 😅 It's not until Star Trek: Deep Space Nine that the Ferengi get really fleshed out and become an actual interesting culture in their own right. (BTW I hope you plan to watch Deep Space Nine! It is a phenomenal series and my favorite Star Trek series by far!!)

This is one of my favourite episodes the Ferengi were one of my favourite "Star Trek" species as a little kid because I just found them entertaining and funny and it was a new thing at the time and I love their blue laser whips which is the only bit I like about this episode and the planet sets look very believable.

The Ferengi actually only became really popular and interesting with "Star Trek - Deep Space Nine"

Armin Shimmerman said they were told to act like "crazed gerbils" in this episode and he made it his crusade to fix the damage done by him and his costars in this episode when cast in DS9 as Quark

All Trek series have that "finding their feet" period. TNG had to find it much harder as it was the first after the Original Series. While it hits its stride in season 3, season 2 has more than a few standout episodes.
The Ferengi were supposed to be the new Klingons but never worked out that way. Fortunately, DS9 made them a very well filled out species. Armin Shimmerman (who played the lead Ferengi of their away team) plays 2 different Ferengi before he makes his 3rd, Quark, THE Ferengi template.

Pretty sure I remember seeing an interview with Armin Shimmerman where he talked about taking the opportunity with his Ferengi character "Quark" in DS9 to undo the damage he felt responsible for with the, shall we say, somewhat lacklustre introduction of the Ferengi in this TNG episode.

Contemporary tv is "Shaka, when the walls fell" compared to this.

Keep an open mind on any aliens you meet the first few seasons... a lot get course corrected to be more interesting, including the Ferrengi. This episode was mainly fan service for original series fans, as there was grumbling about a lack of away missions to strange planets and conflict. And before you ask, yes... nobody liked these guys as the big bad they were trying to set up. Like goblins hopped up on paint fumes and caffeine pills.

Heh -- someone probably should've warned you that NextGen has a *lot* of "Early-Installment Weirdness" going on in the first season. 🙂 Some of it was due to power struggles between various members of the writing and production staff, and a lot of it was due to the rather strange restrictions Roddenberry had saddled everyone with in the official "Writer's Bible" for the series. Somewhere in between the Original Series and the Next Generation, Gene had gotten very into the whole "perfectibility of mankind" vision, and in describing his concepts for the 24th century, he basically cut off nearly every avenue of dramatic conflict the writers would normally use, leading at least one of them to publicly lament "I don't know how to write stories about perfect people in a perfect society!" At the same time, Gene's health issues were starting to catch up with him, and he was... well, let's just say he was not being well-served by other parties who *claimed* to be representing his interests, and may well have *believed* they were representing his best interests, but really didn't know what they were doing and unnecessarily antagonized some of the people who would otherwise have been the show's best writers and script editors, like David Gerrold and D.C. Fontana, who worked on the original show.

Will - the Ferengi quickly fizzled. To be replaced by an adversary worthy of 24th century Starfleet: The Borg! Even a more advanced Romulan Empire has reappeared by seasons end.

Great reaction I’m glad you’re having fun with this show. Yes, the Ferrini originally supposed to be the new bad guy to replace the Klingons lines of Romulans, but they were too funny too much of a joke with something else you’ll see that later later although we’ll see the friend again, but other Star Trek shows in the past before profit the worst parts of capitalism, but they’re not all bad. They have really qualities but they don’t like mine. They are strictly use females for sex objects, cooking cleaning and having the children that’s their basic function for all females and Ferrini alliance just stay home. They are always naked thanks for the fun. Oh by the way, I forgot to comment on your original series episode of the naked time well done and you can see how the next generation you do for now actually I think that version was better than the original version once usually original version is better but I like next generation version better Natasha, Yarr is my favorite she kicked butt in this episode two until next time.

Ah... First draft Ferengi. Good times... 😂. Not a great episode but not total garbage despite how annoying the Ferengi are. It's very mid tier TOS level so again, watchable but not standout.
Once more... You gotta go through the famine of seasons one and two so you know what's going on during the feast of seasons three to seven.
