Lavar Burton was a big name before TNG. Roots, Reading Rainbow, etc. It would surprise me if Scott Bakula wasn't more famous when he went into the Star Trek franchise since he had been in Quantum Leap and other shows. Either way, both of them were the most well known people going into their own Star Trek shows.

About 5 years ago I worked with a woman who was a regular extra for the first two years of the show. She told me that to the surprise of her and many others, Scott knew who all of the extras and lowliest crew members were. He would know what's going on in their lives and sit down at lunch with them etc. By contrast, Linda Park, who had pretty much come from obscurity to a series regular role, was incredibly full of herself and rude to people, sometimes sneering at them and not even responding if they "dared" speak to her. Most figured it would have been the other way around since Scott was already a well-known award-winning actor

It was a disgrace the way Paramount treated this series. It was a brilliant series with an amazing cast of stellar actors, fantastic scripts, stories and awesome production values. I loved every member of that crew. They deserved a full 7 years. It breaks my heart. But I love watching this podcast and seeing my old friends on a regular basis.

@@sirmustardofhousemayonnais9907 It is a well known fact that the reason the series didn’t go longer is because the UPN channel was not a major network like the other national channels where the other Trek series aired. It was a strung together hodgepodge of stations which didn’t have near the same reach. The series was often bumped by stations for a local football game or other such nonsense. Had it aired on the same broadcast networks as TNG, DS9 and Voyager, Enterprise would have had the same audience reach and would have easily completed a 7 year run. This has been stated many times in interviews with cast, producers and Paramount executives who were running UPN at the time. It had noting to do with the quality of the series. It was a victim of an independent TV network experiment that failed to gain traction. Critics and fans consistently gave the series high marks for quality scripts, casting, production values and acting. It has found a vast new audience now on Paramount Plus and is more popular now than it ever was because everyone who wants to watch can actually see it. Unlike its first run.

I just rewatched Enterprise. Unfortunately, I suspect that I suffered from Star Trek burnout when the series first aired. I thought that the show was just OK. I was wrong. The series was terrific. It was well-acted, and the characters, especially Captain Archer, were compelling. The interplay between Trip and T'Pol was VERY entertaining.
I am now going to commit heresy. Archer was the best captain (here comes the hate). Here's why: 1. He captained the least advanced Enterprise EVER. No phasers (until later), puny torpedoes, no shields, or tractor beam (grapplers!), and his ship could not exceed warp 5. Despite this, he was able to defeat hostile alien forces. 2. The captain and crew were all alone. There was no Federation. No backup, and no other starships to assist until Columbia was constructed. Yet he managed to overcome all obstacles including the incredible threat posed by the Xindi. 3. In conjunction with #2, Archer was a skilled diplomat. Need proof? He negotiated peace with the Xindi and completed his mission. He was the first captain to save Earth from annihilation.
In retrospect, it's sad that the show only got 4 seasons. The season finale was a complete abomination. Thanks, guys for bringing Scott Bakula back.

The part I enjoyed most about this is that it was just three friends talking. It wasn't podcasters, eager to grow their audience by interviewing a famous actor and asking obvious questions the actor has heard a million times. Dominic was talking about his health and aging. Connor was relating to Scott's kids. And Scott was being more open than celebrities tend to be and discussing the details of his life as a husband and father. It was really nice.
In the end, while they're all doing something very public and extroverted, all of us can identify with the human actor behind the characters we love to watch. They play winning characters on screen, whom we'd all love to just hang out with. It's really neat to see that they're all just regular guys instead of behaving like, well, like celebrities. There is a core group of famous people that seem like regular folks who made good and who are more relatable than you'd expect a rich guy might be. I think of folks like Kurt Russell, Ron Howard, Ian McKellen, Keanu Reeves and Michael Dorn don't fit that Hollywood stereotype and I think that Scott fits nicely with that crowd. Just folks that you'd love to hang out with and NOT talk about their jobs but rather just talk to them like you would any other friend you share interesting stories with.
Thanks for producing such a natural podcast. The Shuttlepod show was fine, but this feels more relaxed, natural, and simple now that it's just you guys and your guest. Might just do the Patreon thing if you don't stop producing all this fun content, dang you.

After watching every episode of 'Enterprise' I will say categorically that 'Enterprise' was the best series in the Star Trek universe. Sure, it had some clunkers (EVERY TV series does), but overall it was really good and had great story arcs and characters.
Also, all of the cast of 'Enterprise' were perfect for their respective roles, but mostly, it was great stories AND great characters. I intend to buy the entire set of 'Enterprise' on DVD or Bluray so I can watch it over and over. My thanks to everyone involved in the making of 'Enterprise', I've enjoyed it immensely. Thank you.

Three shows that I grew up as a kid that I did not full comprehend but loved. Late 80s-90s SNL cast, Star Trek TNG, and by god Quantum "freaking" Leap. Scott Bakula was a cool figure then and now. Seeing him in Enterprise just added to the fun of watching Scott act. I greatly appreciate the cast of Enterprise more and more with each year that goes by. Thank you all.

You men should be justifiably pleased with the work you did on Enterprise. I loved it. I have often wondered what it would be like if I could go back to 1973 when I met Gene, and show him this iteration of Trek. I think he would love it as much as his own original series. I was a young actor looking to find my way, and looking back, when my friend Todd (Hallowell) left for LA from our little town in Pennsylvania, perhaps I should have gone with him. It would have been a vastly different experience. Today, I'm involved in music ministry after a nearly two decade career as a radio personality, and Todd is the Executive Producer for the X-Men franchise. So to you men and Scott...a big "well done!"

I really appreciated the look behind the scenes into the world of the actors on and off set of Enterprise, and so many of the others that Scott has been a part of. I was studying to be an actor many years ago, and can relate to the feeling of the "magic" that a good cast can create on stage. That's why these three guys were such a good fit on Enterprise-they all had theater experience.

Funny you should ask Scott what he based Archer on because I'm watching this and I'm like "it's Captain Archer!". Seriously, Archer was Scott reading a script, not much being hard acted. The way he talks and moves, it's Archer.
I'll go on record here and say I've watched every *single Star Trek series and, to me, Enterprise is the best. Hate me all you want but Enterprise was made by and for grownups. It was real, with real-life limitations and plausible tech for the time. No magic, no musicals, and very few kids on screen like it ought to be.
*PS: to this day, I can't bare watch the last Enterprise episode. As soon as they showed it was a simulation, I turned it off. What a slap in the face to the cast and disrespect to the audience.
