  • This motor was pretty rough looking when I picked it up for 60 bucks. After a tune up, new check valves, and getting the top rings freed up, it turned out to be a very strong beautiful runnimg Super Fastwin.

    I firmly believe, the best motor for any inland waterway worldwide, on any boat under 20ft is any 15 2-stroke! Portable enough, economical and powerful enough! Great work as usual, a gem.

      A 15hp 2-stroke is a wonderful motor for any small boat on an inland waterway. That is for sure. I really like the power to weight ratio of these Super Fastwins. They're a little noisier than the '55 and later, but they are lighter and r I n just as well or better. My favorite motors are the 18s, but these are right up there. Thank you and thanks for watching, Bill!

    Glad this motor was a success! Looks like fun running around the lake. As of the COVID-19 we have spent the last few months up north and have had all the time to run these jewels of motors

      Thank you. This one definitely had its challenges but im glad it turned out as well as it did too. I wasn't sure how well it would turn out when I got it home. Its nice that you have been able to run your motors often being up north. The bright side to the COVID-19 situation. Thanks for watching!

    THAT’S what it’s supposed to sound like. When you hear that certain note, you know it’s running right. Now I have to get mine from the same year running that well. Sweet job on that one!

      Yessir! That IS what it's supposed to sound like. This one runs perfectly. It sure had its issues but after sorting it all out, it's a great runner. Thank you and good luck with yours. Thanks for watching!

      I just got a 55 last year. It's is decent cosmetic shape and should be a good motor. It has a few broken pieces that I need to replace. Maybe it will be ready for next season. Keep 'em alive! Thanks for watching!

    She sounds awesome brother 👍 gorgeous day to be out on the lake . Got that motors lil brother 7.5 still runs like a Swiss watch . It's a shame motors aren't built today like they were back then. Ole would be proud,😁 Have a great 4th freind & as always thank you for sharing 👍

      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 4 lety

      Thank you, this one turned out great. It's a very nice strong runner. The cosmetic wear is obviously due to storage and being transported a lot over the years. It has some hours on it but it is in super mechanical condition. It is a shame they can't build motors like this anymore. Ole would love to see these old motors still on the water today. Have a great Independence Day also. Thanks for watching!

      That's a good description for this one. It looks a but rough, but it runs perfectly and is a very strong 15. I managed to get 22.6 mph out of this motor right after shooting this video by trimming it out another notch. The old girl really scoots along nicely. The Engine Tuner did the trick on the right after they soaked for a few days with Kroil on them. Once the rings freed up it really ran great. Thanks for watching, Don!

    Just a great runner...over 21 too... that is GOOD! I had that ring problem too on an 18 hp. Just because one is low don't always mean she is done, got it freed up eventually. Stunning how those old motors work.

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 4 lety

      It really did turn out to be a great runner. It's the best running Super Fastwin I have and the fastest 50s 15hp OMC I have ever run. Over 21mph was great. After this video I trimmed it out one more notch and got 22.6mph. Amazing speed for one of these.
      I have had similar ring issues on other motors since as well. The OMC Engine Tuner is great stuff for removing carbon and does a nice job of freeing up rings as long as they are just carbon fouled and not stuck with a smear of aluminum on the piston. These old motors are so simple. As long as they are not badly abused or worn out they will usually run pretty well with some TLC. Thanks for watching!

    thats the correct sound! its less tinney in my wood lapstreak. omc did right on these, durable long lasting motors.

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před rokem +1

      Naturally it would have a less amplified tinny sound in a wooden lapstrake boat. They are comparatively rather noisy motors next to the '55-'56 15hp, but they're excellent runners and great, reliable performers. They will run and run and are quite surprisingly tolerant of poor condition. Their biggest weakness is the wristpins very similar to the 1949-1960 OMC 10hp. Thanks for watching!

    Very nice for a 50's Evinrude, I've got a 4hp Evinrude from the early 60's ( not sure which year ) that I recently got running, and it originally had a bad carburetor which has since been replaced but am in the process of test running it now

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 4 lety

      Thank you. 50s Evinrudes are some of my favorite motors. This one shows quite a bit of cosmetic wear, but is in great mechanical shape and turned out to be a great runner. The 4hps are great little motors. If yours is a 4hp, it has to be a 1969 or later. 1968 and earlier are 3hp. They all run really nice and are wonderful fishing motors for small lakes. Thanks for watching!

    Hi there! I’ve got one of these that runs just as well as this one, but might be a little louder as it’s missing the carb muffler haha! I need a new clutch dog for it as it sometimes slips in forward, but I can’t seem to find any for motors this old. Do you know where I could find one or perhaps will a later one from the 18 hp fastwins work? Thanks, Matt

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 4 lety

      Yes, they're a little louder without the intake silencer, but it doesn't make a lot of difference on these. I had to replace the clutch dog in one of my '54s too. It is a different part number then the later 18/20/25hp clutch dog, but the later one will fit and work. I have used them interchangeably a few times without any problems. The only thing I found is that the later clutch dogs require a little closer adjustment to get them to release from both gears goilg into neutral. Thanks for watching!

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 4 lety

      It planes out nicely on my Sea Nymph 14R. How quickly depends on how the boat is loaded, how the trim is adjusted, and how healthy the motor is. Thanks for watching!
