  • This was my first '67 Fastwin and my first electric start 22c.i OMC outboard. It has always been a strong runner since I first went through it and returned it to service. This was it's first lake outing after being winterized in October 2020. It started right up and performed beautifully.

    I always had a hard time adjusting from a beautiful '58 18 to one of the "Flash Gordon" space-age versions. But, they were sure good motors. And this poses the question: Who could want for more than a motor like this? Answer: A guy who "needs" five 350hp motors on the back of a 38' center console in order to feel like a man! HAW-HAW! Thanks for another great video.

      Yes, I agree that the "Jetstream" styling of the 60s fiberglass cowl was a big change from the earlier 50s style of the die cast cowl. They're a whole different style and I love them both. For regular runners, I lean toward the 60s Evinrude style. I grew to like to look and I love how they run. For me and my boating,I certainly habe no need for 4 or 6 300-500hp outboards across the transom of a huge center console boat. If I was boating on the ocean and dealing with rough inlets and that type of thing, maybe I'd se the point. For me amd my inland lake boating, that's just gross excess. As always, thanks again for watching!

    Very nice runner. Pretty quick too.

      Thank you. This motor turned put to be a really nice runner once I got it back up and running. It moves out nicely. One of the stronger 18s I have. Thanks for watching!

    Nice looking power house. I have one of same year/model that lived against a tree for who knows how long. It's now one of my favorites.

      Thank you! I think this one probably lived next to a tree for a couple decades when I bought it. It was in very rough shape. The hood has some scars in it from.past abuse and it was very faded other than the logos which survived surprisingly well. I just masked off the logos and sprayed the hood. I probably would have take more time with it if I was doing it today. It will eventually need paint again. I may take the time to fill.in the scars and scrapes before painting it next time. I have two '67 Fastwins and they are both favorites of mine to run. The other one was built out of two parts motors and it runs every bit as well or better than this one. Thanks for watching!

    I used to have the same engine and I converted it into an electric start. Loved it.

      These are great outboards. They're my all-around favorites. The electric start is nice even though it starts very easily using the rope also. I don't have this boat wired for remote electric start, but my other FD is and being able to start it from seated at the mid controls is very nice. This one was factory electric with the choke solenoid and all, but the original wiring harness was missing when I got it. It was a cobbled mess of wires so I ripped all that out and started over. The only reason I don't run this one as much as my other 67 Fastwin is because the boat's I usually run it on aren't wired for electric start and the rope only motor is lighter. Thanks for watching!

    Awesome motor. Love those smaller hp electric start. Kinda rare. I'm in need of a lower unit for a 1967 60 hp? Luckily not the electric shift gems. Have a safe weekend.

      Thank you! This has been a great motor. They actually made quite a fee of these 22c.i 18-25hp motors is electric start. Certainly not as many as the manual start ones, but I run across them now and then. I have several electric start 18s. Glad to hear your 60hp isn't electric shift. That's a good old motor with a manual shift gearcase. Thanks for watching!

      Thank you. It's been an excellent motor and this boat is about perfect for me at the cabin. The 12 footers are a little rough when it gets choppy. This one handles the typical chop great and it's almost as fast. It's exceptionally calm today. Thanks for watching!

    That was the factory demo video of how a Fastwin should run. Even the idle was so right where it should be. Yeah, that one deserves to sing her song more often.

      Thank you! This did turn out to be a very nice runner when I went through it. It's beautifully reliable as well. I agree, she deserves to sing her song more often than every 4 years. I so often end up using my rope start '67 Fastwin just because it is lighter and runs just as well as this one. Thanks for watching!!

    A nice run and good camera angles. Thanks for the ride! Last time I had my 57 Feathercraft with same year Mark 55 on the water was 7 years ago. Maybe this summer it will get wet again after I go through it and fix a few leaky rivets. OMCs still better to work on though. Video should be posted on my so called "channel". Take care:)

      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 2 měsíci

      Thank you so much! I bet that Feathercraft with the Mark55 is a sweet rig to run. 7 years, it's time to get it on the water again. Yes, the OMCs are better / easier / more fun to work on. Those 4-cylinder Mercs sure sound good though. I'll keep an eye on your channel. Thanks for watching, Mark!

      I only have a few videos but yes that boat and motor hauls and sounds good. Was a project that sat for 10 years. The motor just needed a carb kit, new fuel pump kit and impeller (a pain to put the LU back together). Cant beat 40 HP in a 115 lb motor though.

    24 mph seems to be the magic number! Every 18 I have hits 24 and that's my '57 Johnson too. Not 25, not 23 but 24!! Lol

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 2 měsíci

      I agree. 24mph is pretty much what i usually see out of a good running 18. I have a couple of them that top out at about 23 and a couple that will consistently break 25, but the majority of them are right at the 24mph mark. I have managed to get over 26 out of a couple of them on the right boat, but that is unusual. Thanks for watching!

    • @mikedurhan9941
      @mikedurhan9941 Před 2 měsíci

      Me too. 24mph out of my '58 18. (29mph out of my 1974 25hp on the same boat.)

    Just beautiful. They had the lines bang on then. We had the exact same minus the electric start. As I've said before, the best looking motor after the 40hp lark. Best wishes to you all from Brisbane Queensland Australia 🇦🇺

      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 2 měsíci

      Thank you. The electric start is nice in this motor. It starts very easily with the rope too, but it takes off at the toubch of a button and that's pretty nice. Thanks for watching!

      Thanks David! It is a really nice runner. I doubt I'll bring it to Tomahawk, but anything is possible. I think my 65 Johnson 18 will make the trip again this year though. If I get my other project finished I'll bring it also. Thanks for watching!

    I’m restoring a 1956 15hp Johnson with 120psi both cylinders. I have it on a 14’ wolverine (Cadillac). What do you think it will do for speed? 20? 18? 22?
    I have a 9x10 on it. Not polished just painted OEM prop.
    Remember the 15 was the 18’s predecessor.

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  Před 2 měsíci

      Those 15s are great motors. They run so very nicely. That's fantastic compression for a 15. I rarely find them much over 100 psi and 90-95 is more common. It should be a very good runner. With a 9x10P prop and a solo adult driver, I would imagine you would see between 19 and 21mph with that boat. Thanks for watching!
