My god I remember this day so clearly. I was starting 11th grade, our school was closed for about 2 or 3 weeks. We didn't have power for almost 2 weeks, a tree landed on the road near our house (fortunately, nobody got hurt) and when we went back to school half the building still had no power. It was absolutely terrible, I'll never forget it
I was in 6th grade. Even though we were fine (we lived in the Bronx), a lot of teachers came from New Jersey or Long Island and their homes were flooded.
I was in sixth grade, and school was closed for a week because of this. Thank goodness it was not like the storm that happened one year prior where that same area of mine lost power
Me, too.... the aftermath of it was the worst for me. Lucky enough to be a decent distance from the coast, my family just had to contend with an eight day power outage. We eventually decided to stay in a hotel for a bit, because we had no heat and the temperature PLUMMETED right after the storm, but it could have been far worse. It was only after watching a documentary that I really saw how much damage had been done to the coast.
Everyone was talking about New York with this storm, everyone ignored New Jersey and the damage there...New Jersey had it twice as bad as NY but nobody gave a fuck.
Nicole G You guys were directly under the eye it was a very scary experience tbh we got #3 in Massachusetts but the weather wasn't to the point where we had to leave the city
I live in NJ. Just before the storm hit I got myself into the woods in eastern Burlington County (just west of Tuckerton Ocean County). I was far enough away from water that I wouldn't have to worry about storm surge and far enough away from any trees taller than 10 feet that I wouldn't have to worry about them falling onto me or my car. I had enough provisions with me in case I got stuck for a few days, but where I was I knew I wouldn't have to worry about it. I kept listening to local news, weather, and music broadcasts on a portable digital radio that I brought with me waiting to hear when the worst of the storm was just about over my head. After a number of hours of it getting very wet and somewhat windy I decided to go for walks out in the woods and on some of the local paved roads wearing nothing but a pair of sneakers or nothing at all. I knew that very few people would be out on the roads after dark during a storm like this because this part of the state is usually very quiet between 11PM - 5AM anyway. It also helped that some of the campgrounds in the area were closed down due to the incoming weather. I was able to go for a number of walks (a few of them lasting as long as 30 minutes straight) during the 36 hour period of time that I basically "sat" in this one specific location in the county. I was able to go driving around during the daytime just as the storm was coming ashore and sitting above my location while the sun was up enough for me to see without needing headlights, but when it was dark I basically sat in one specific area. Talk about a fun 2 days. Here I was, stationed out in the woods, nobody knowing exactly where I was, nobody was with me, and nobody expecting to see someone else out in these areas under this immediate condition. So I decided that I would have a little fun with it and so I walked around naked from my ankles up in certain locations, and completely naked in other areas. During the middle of the night, during the middle of the day, in periods of torrential rain and horrendous wind, in periods of tiny sprinkles and almost no wind at all, out in the middle of the deepest densest forest, right out on the road that runs between various areas of development of any kind.
i remember sandy like it was yesterday. i was 9., living in Jersey. i remember the winds, rain, no halloween, my lights flickering (but thank God i didn’t lose power) and school was closed for at least a few days after the storm. I hope to experience another massive storm like this tho. am i crazy?😂

AllAboutTiff scared? I went to the boardwalk when it was right over NY. Probably a stupid idea, but definitely wasn't scared.
Lmao No damages were done in Queens but broken trees and some houses but it wasn't a lot of damage. Their was no flood. Neither the power went out. Some places it did but not some like in Queens.
NJ got hit the hardest from a Hurricane Sandy it brought a tornado lots of flooding then Massachusetts. Thunderstorms associated with the remnants of Hurricane Isaac helped produce a tornado in Camden County and a funnel cloud in Burlington County. They also caused isolated wind damage in Sussex County. A weak EFO tornado touched down in Mount Ephraim at 631 p.m. EDT on the 4th. The tornado initially touched down on the west side of Cleveland Avenue. It then moved east northeast, crossed Jefferson Avenue and lifted as it approached Kings Highway. (County Route 551). Several homes in the area experienced roof damage, mainly from fallen tree limbs. A couple of large trees were uprooted. One badly damaged a concrete sidewalk. The maximum wind speeds were estimated at 70 mph. The path length was about 0.15 miles and the maximum path width was 25 yards. As it moved northward, the hurricane degenerated into a still-massive extratropical cyclone and made landfall on New Jersey on October 29. Over two million households in the state lost power in the storm, 346,000 homes were damaged or destroyed, and 37 people were killed. Subways were inundated in New York City. Hurricane-force winds tore across New Jersey. Blizzard conditions walloped Appalachia. The hurricane - also known as Superstorm Sandy - caused an estimated $70 billion in damages in the U.S., mostly from flooding.

5SORC irma a lil speck compared to sandy? It's projected to be more costly than Sandy, it was more powerful than sandy, it caused more power outrages than sandy and any storm ever, it wiped out an entire island, like it's literally inhabitable. The only thing it doesn't surpass sandy in is overall size from end to end and (thankfully) the death toll and that's largely due to Irma causing the largest mass evacuation in US history. They're 2 of the costliest hurricanes ever, Irma definitely wasn't a small speck compared to it
i was 10 when sandy hit new york and i was completely oblivious to what was happening. all i remember was that the storm flooded subway tunnels across the city, i lost power for almost a week. also, some family friends in manhattan had to evacuate after a crane collapsed near their area.
