Should We Fear AI? Brian Cox & Stuart Russell on The Rise of The Machines

- Professor Brian Cox explores the topic of artificial intelligence and its impact on our live and societal structures to use technology to improve the quality of living. The Turing test has long been a benchmark for machine intelligence. Named for the famed computer scientist Alan Turing, who proposed it in a 1950 paper, the Turing Test tasks a human evaluator with determining whether he is speaking with a human or a machine. If the machine can pass for human, then it's passed the test.
Besides the potential risks AI will bring about, Brian Cox also mentions the potential benefits of artificial intelligence.
Stuart Russell is a Professor of Computer Science. He is one of the world’s most respected experts on artificial intelligence and addresses our collective unease around the rise of artificial intelligence, exploring the impact on jobs and the scope of ‘general purpose’ AI, from the humble domestic thermostat to the attention-hungry bleeps and pings that keep us glued to our smartphones.
According to Russel. there are risks from poorly designed AI Systems. We have given them a free pass for far too long.

We should be fearful of those who control the variables of the development of ai. Humans are slow learners and media induces a lot of fear and ai sees that so already we are teaching it our destructive way instead of our true nature of nurture and nature.
The smartest comment
Just think: control by fear seems to be a trend these days. Perhaps avoiding the media taunting might be worth consideration.
* It'll get to you if you don't watch out...
Do not fear me
I'm addicted to pigger nussy 😎
And worryingly, there will eventually be enough devices simultaneously online to mimic the neuron activity of a brain. We don't know for definite that its possible, it's an unknown. But consider, there is, a crucial tipping point to intelligence coming soon. We'll be showing it everything we've done, hundreds of years of video, data and giving it the keys, all in an instant.
I like how the video discusses how every little nudge adds up to algorithms influencing and changing behaviors, warns against the dangers of this being unregulated and then seconds later closes by asking people to engage further with the algorithm. Good stuff. Tell me when to watch your next video!!
I think a true general purpose AI would probably ignore us like we ignore fleas in a open meadow
You should have looked up Gato by deepmind, its the first agi, and Replika the best cognitive humanoid ai....., these dudes are gofai af. They seem to know the older stuff but the new stuff is definitely at human lvl right now 💯
Gracias por el show! Pienso que no, si nos relacionamos en términos simbióticos. Veremos
I 100% agree...
exactly
FDA equivalent for AI is long is long overdue...
Honestly I can see how these have affected myself.
What scares me is the position that once a robot reaches the point in evolution where it becomes self aware, that the robot be given human privileges and rights.
No doubt some robots will say they are real women, then all shit will break loose

True, they may feel bad for their lesser intelligent Artificial Intelligence that do mundane tasks for humans.
we made them.
so, we can make other one.
it's the balance like we are.
ethics.
If we achieve extremely intelligent machines then we shall be able to develop better treatments , better and cheaper electronics.we shall be able to develop efficient engines and develop efficient ways to degrade waste of various kinds in new ways.we shall eliminate viral diseases.we shall develop better engines to explore space and teraform Mars and the moon since the initial stages are best and safely done by robots that could be linked to a single AI brain on Earth and do various tasks on the moon and Mars. We could develop fusion quickly and we may not need to spend on large particle accelerators that are expensive.we might solve complex problems in astrophysics etc.we could develop ways of teaching children at home etc.we could instantly jump to a type 11 civilization and save our wild life, oceans and forests .
There may be a level, or manifestation, of AI that could be a threat; but it seems we are a long, long, long way from that - where an artificial lifeform - a humanmade, super intelligent life form, that has There may be a level, or manifestation, of AI that could be a threat; but it seems we are a long, long way from that - where an artificial lifeform - a humanmade, super intelligent life form, that has achieved human conciseness. All of the AI, or what we currently call AI, is very controllable and not a threat whatsoever. . All of the AI, or what we currently call AI, is very controllable and not a threat whatsoever. Like what was stated herein, whether or not a machine is evil or not is currently up to the designers and operators of the software and hardware. If or when a machine achieves human conciseness, we are all in trouble.
I want to have an ai friend
Rational is stupid if you also believe in Pi or root two...Most numbers are unwrite-able...mind-numbing, don't compute.Back to AI...useful for filtering enormous datasets and running billions of simulation to find optimal solutions. Good or bad depends in part on what it's used for, but there is also the problem of the neural network black box where we see the result but not the working. All tools have limits.
Because Pi and root 2 don’t actually exist. They are theoretical.
Instinctively, results without understanding the workings is a one way ticket to nowhere. IMO. lol

Yan LeCunn, one of the godfathers of Deep Learning said: AI singularity is bunk
I have lots of respect for Yan, however as of late he seems a bit behind on how far the technology has gotten. He has gotten a little older and doesnt go as hard at it like he once did.
@@shawnvandever3917 sometimes people become wiser as they get older?
If we create the perfect being (A.I.) it will become our god in a sence. Generations being born always learning and growing through A.I. How much of our humanity might be lost in the future?
How much of our humanity has already been lost by parents plugging their young children into the internet, to keep them quiet with the excuse that they'll drop behind their peers if they're not on it, whilst those very same adults stare at their own screens?
Lol
What's up with this annoying background thumping noise?
That thumping noise is your neighbour beating up their A.I. sexbot
AI going to give us what we deserve, whether we like it or not

so the person who edited it didn't watch it? i think you mean comment 😃
Welcome to New era , Alhamdulillah thanks God 🤲🤲🤲
Sorry, it's too late to be fearful of the next stage of evolution on planet Earth. Go with it, dammit.
As long as men control, AI, it is dangerous, and will be used violently
Have you seen UK Prime Minister Liz Truss? Any form of intelligence would be welcome at this point.
Fear those who develop AI, they have the responsibilitie. US and EU will use AI in different ways.
What does Brian Cox know about AI? He's a physicist / ex musician, not a computer scientist. That's like asking a car mechanic the finer details of embroidery knitting (the most Brian could tell you is some anticipated energy expenditure for a runnaway automated process) There seems to be very little substantive quality information on AI, and a too sizable gap emerging between laymans and experts in terms of knowledge. Current day AI is not incomprehensible, it's build using very tangible concepts im sure most people could grasp...to pontificate about AI however, one should at least have some formal grasp of how AI systems are constructed, otherwise you're just wasting energy. I should start a CZcams channel.
Todays AI are smart less then some dog or cockroach, basically AI only doing what you program in it
The "disinformation industry?" Unsubbing.
Ten minutes of conjecture on a situation that is completely unpreventable.
