  • Why Is Velen So AWESOME? - Witcher 3. In today's video i talk about velen in the witcher 3 and why it's so awesome. I do a witcher 3 review and talk about one of my favourite quests in velen 'family matters' and how velen sets the stage for the whole witcher 3 story.

The entire family matters quest could've been skipped if Geralt just uses axi to make the baron tell him about Ciri

      Even the entire game

LMAO FR but even Geralt has his morals he mainly uses axii on ppl with lesser minds compared to him or otherwise dumb ppl and ppl he doesn't respect or like

I never even considered that paha. But in Geralt's defense, I recall he only uses Axii to diffuse tension (when fights are about to occur), and when in a desperate situation, in the Witcher 3 (and on occassion, to save on some coin).

It apparently only works on weak minded individuals. But I woulda been totally fine with that, its the first string of seemingly unnecessary quests that makes you feel like your wasting so much time. I never liked the botchling quest and never really understood why people like it so much. I always found it disgusting and overly time consuming.

Because it suits the witcher universe/atmosphere very well
When you are in Velen, you immediatly feel like a Witcher

      Agreed.
It's full of death, disease, and suffering. It's war torn and full of corpse
Almost all the quests in Velen revolves around that, and it fits a witcher's vibes.

There’s something genuinely unsettling and brilliant about Velen. Before playing the Witcher 3 I’d played my fair share of open world games but the Witcher hits different. There’s something about the grim wetlands and howling winds which makes the place feel alive but too quiet. It really captured that untamed wilds aesthetic. The variety of side quests and diverse npcs makes this really feel like a country clinging to life. You never really see any of the large scale battles that took place between the north and Nilfgaard besides the opening cutscene but the effects of war can nonetheless be felt. And in the wake of such tragedies, more monstrous forces begin to reveal themselves.

Velen is one of the best locations in W3. I think it’s the location that feels the most “Witcher”. The baron quest is still one of the best and favorite from the game. It’s a great introduction into the game and the world of the Witcher in my opinion.

The same feeling you have for Family Matters I have for whole Velen especially for part with Crones and Crockbag bog. Every time I play that part of the game I get chills, but in a negative and positive way

God, I love Velen so much. Might be little bit personal for me, since atmosphere brings me to my childhood so much. Small town where I lived...not backward, but kind of rural. Wooden half-decayed fences, old houses and a dense forest right behind the house. Now there's a lot of new and renovated houses, but back then, especially in the fall when the trees turned colors and my grandmothers scared me with all kinds of klekánicemi, vodanoys and baba yaga I wasn't directly scared, but it created a very special atmosphere: a kind of wild spooky beauty. I don't feel that anymore. I already know that drowners are not dangerous if you don't provoke them so, no thrill in that. Still, every time I come to the village of the crones, I'm like a kid again.

I was going to say the same. I grew up in a swampy, very rural area where lots of people are in poverty. Obviously Velen is a fantasy world with different issues, but I could see my neighbors, friends, and family reflected in the problems they faced here. It just felt so real to me.

When I played for the first time, I thought White Orchard was amazing and generated much sympathy for the man who sends you to kill the spirit by the well (I didn’t take his money) then on to Velen and the Baron. I really felt so sorry for him. The Shrieker quest, again I did not take his money but used kindness as a reward for his kindness. A lot of the quests are so thought provoking that it didn’t feel like a “game” so much as a lesson on morality and making you question who is worthy of your sympathy.

Velen and Novigrad are great places. I spent more of my time their than in Skellige(and i LOVE Skellige). I think personally, my favorite place is Toussaint.
It's bright, colorful, very different from everywhere else but still feels like it fits in the same world. I really like how Geralt is sooooo out of place in this area but a part of him really likes it because it's more pleasant than everywhere else.

I absolutely love Velen, I remember the first time walking up to the nilfguaardian camp and I was amazed. The details , they way they interacted with the villagers around them. Truly a beautiful region as well.

I love the viking culture and scandinavian looks of Skellige, I love the beauty, colors and Tuscany/southern France like looks of Toussaint, but nothing screams Witcher to me as much as Velen does. The dirt, the misery, the poor folk, the stories, the war torn no man's land, broken people everywhere, eat or die, the darkness and wild landscapes (even though not as wild as Skellige or Kaer Morgen), the wet marshes, it all captures the Witcher feeling 100% 🙌

Velen by far is one of my favorite parts of the story. So immersive!
    Every region is!
I was absolutely hooked on first play through in white orchard, somthing about the music and the story starting on the cliff with the sunrise..
I rember I was so worried about 4 times that the game was going to end, Only to continue! I was lost and felt sad when I did finish my first play through..

I remember my first playthrough very well. It made me so skittish I expected to die at every turn, and I often did. Velen's so dark and grey with monsters everywhere. These days, I can't wait to escape the place, yet I wouldn't skip Velen even if I was offered the chance. The story is incredibly strong and the writing is excellent.
Please bear in mind that I very rarely finish a game. If I have finished half a dozen over the last 30 years I'd be surprised.
At no point does the game treat you like a child. It is never dumbed down. It's incredibly gritty and all too real. It's what makes the game so special.
I put in around 600 hours on Skyrim, but I couldn't replay it. By the time I stopped, it felt like the world was empty, a hollow shell of a place.
I'm at around 800 hours and into my fourth playthrough of Witcher, including both DLC. I'll continue playing until Windows no longer supports it. And then I will cry.

I really loved the overall feel of Velen, there was so much depth and darkness all around. It was also interesting to while exploring the whole of the map see how the people lived around such danger and it was great for learning how to keep calm and witcher on~

9:15 - Exact same, I kept playing and thinking the game was so surreal, and how long until it fizzles out and becomes bland. But that never did occur.
I was 100% convinced that the DLC would be, for lack of a better term, utter shyte. This is the first game where I've found the DLCs to be absolutely beyond anything I could've expected.
This game is a whole life experience in its own right.

How close the Witcher games, especially Wild Hunt, walk to the question "what it means to be human" is what is so incredibly moving about them. That is the core of Tolkienesque fantasy, and Sapkowski did amazingly in his subversion of the genre, his serious flaws notwithstanding.

I love Skellige so much. It is my favorite area. The whole storyline of getting Cerys to become Queen is one of my favorites from helping her rid the Jarl of the Hym to helping her uncover the mystery behind the Berserkers.

Velen is the area that best evokes the brilliant aesthetic of the first Witcher game. That game's atmosphere was the best out of the three to me but its gameplay pales in comparison to the Witcher 3. Velen combines the best of both.

Its the starting area and you can feel it but it expands organically into the storyline. The bloody Baron quest in my opinion is the best quest base game or one the best in respect for the lore . Along with setting the tone for the game. Readings the books and playing the games and looking at the troubled dev time despite that you can see the best writers were on this quest . Love him or hate him by the end of it you understand the baron .
As you explore with geralt you just learn he's a bastard with a shit life like most in the witcher. Plus he helps ciri I might be bias as I grew to like him but enough rambling.

  • @spartanhuntergaming
    @spartanhuntergaming Před rokem +1

I didn't hate the Baron, I actually pitied the Baron. Yes he were a piece of shit, wife beater, drunk and poor father but the part that made me pity him, were he were a soldier, he were rarely home to care for his wife and his daughter, the stuff he saw caused him to find comfort in drink. When I found out everything about him, that's when I pittied him and tried to help him find his wife and daughter, then try and mend what could be mended with him. I had it where he took his wife to be healed at the end, which I genuinely believe him when he swore to Tamara that he'd not touch drink and that when his wife was healed, theyd find her

It is fun to go from it to novigrad, toussaint and skellige for me. To go through something slow and depressing into those locations. It feels more like you're on a journey with Geralt.

The whole of The Witcher 3 blew me away, as it was my first taste of The Witcher in any form. Even before I’d finishing The Witcher 3, I’d read half the books, bought The Witcher & The Witcher 2. Purchased and watch the original Polish TV series on DVD in the original Polish without subtitles and watched it even though I can only speak English. But the two side quests that I love above all others both take place in Blood and Wine, the Cosplay side quest and the number one is the Roach quest I’d loved to have enough of those mushrooms to do a New Game Plus with them. What a playthrough that would be. 🦘🦘🦘
