I first saw this when I was a kid. I named the little duck "Crazy," because of his crazy laugh and the crazy music that accompanied him. It wasn't until many years later that I learned his real name was Dingbat. I still think he's hilarious.
On the one hand, I tend to root for predators regardless of how a world is built. On the other, the owl and bluebird are clearly as intelligent as the fox and have a duty to protect their children from being eaten, and the fox has other food in his pantry (not just fruits and vegetables, but butter, bacon, and cuts of meat with bones). _Unfertilized_ bird eggs are just waste to the birds and should be eaten by somebody before they spoil, but _fertilized_ eggs are in fact baby birds. The Dingbat is clearly the unambiguous villain here, however, and I wish the fox could've just eaten him. Old cartoons tended to be inconsistent in their treatment of cats, and always negative to foxes and weasels. Foxes have been getting treated better since the 80s, but weasels are still go-to bad guy animals.
This cartoon marks the first appearance of DIngbat, A screwball we all know and loved, but only made 5 appearances. And boy, do I like him? He's silly.
I root for the owl dad protecting his family with a mallet, but also root for the fox to eat the Dingbat, especially after it starts stealing all his other food.
I think I have seen this character before, and believe he was meant to be similar to Tex Avery's Screwy Squirrel. If I remember arights the other cartoon I saw him in he was somewhat wackier. It was some kind of cartoonfest and the people in the audience booed the cartoon out of loyalty to Avery and Screwy. This character's wackyness doesn't work too well.
Yeah I do remember now Gandy and Sourpuss in Dingbat Land, which of course was a big swipe from Clampett's 1938 ground breaker "Porky in Wackyland". I guess I should try to see the rest of the Dingbat's outings.
Me and my old father loved to watch these cartoon together. He is no more but I'm remembering him when I watching it now. 😞😞❤❤🙏🙏

I grew up with a VHS of Dingbat Land, only finding out he had other shorts this very morning. He's definitely crazy.
This is notable for being the first appearance of Dingbat, who would later go on to star in 4 other cartoons.
What's sad about this is it the fox just wanted eggs to eat. It's messed up that the animators made him have a hard time☹
