Some days I think to myself “ohh this is gonna break something for sure” but it never does! I have YET to break a SINGLE thing on this tractor.. which is absolutely mind blowing to me.. and attests to how well Kubota builds their machines! Thanks for watching!

      Hey that’s a great idea Kent I didn’t even think about that! You could run one set on the inside and one set on the outside and you’ll really be able to get a good bite ripping through those roots.. tho the only negitive I can think of is your pressure per square inch would be decreased slightly as you’ll be adding width to the sides but I doubt it would be enough to cause a negitive effect. Maybe I’ll try this sometime 👍🏻

  • @timnash6870
    @timnash6870 Před rokem

    TIM from Canada suggestions on your tooth Bar.. if you were to extend it out to 6 foot. you would have the links you needed to get underneath that stump. It is too short for what you were doing. A four sided triangle would get you the length and then depth you would need to get that stump out same thing you have going on now, but putting a cap on the top of that route bucket, extending the nose out to 6 foot.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  Před rokem

      Thanks Tim.. I get what your saying but unfortunately if I added even 2’ more of length to the bucket let alone 6’ the tractor would never have the break out force to curl and get good leverage on the stumps or roots.. this is why you must keep these buckets short and close to the loader curl pins for efficient use. It’s already pretty hard on a machine to dig stumps specially one this size but adding more length and weight to the attachment would only make it worse.
      I have another stump bucket I used for trenching a gas line.. seen in this recent video here: czcams.com/video/XpMJVBuGkqU/video.html it’s a 24” bucket Vs. the 18” bucket you saw me use here.. I used both buckets on this job and you’ll see that with the 24” it’s just about too much for the tractor to handle to get any real work done because of the size of the tractor.. now on the other hand as you’ll see in that video the longer bucket did help me to dig deeper as was expected and IMO that’s the only reason you should use a 24” or longer bucket on a sub compact is if you absolutly need the reach.
      Thanks for watching!

    Nice work. You might think about getting or making a grill guard. Couple times I thought the loader was going to slip over the stump and the stump would end up in your front grill. Would turn a good into a bad day real fast.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  Před 2 lety

      Haha yes indeed I did worry about that after watching the video over.. I saw how close I came a few times.. my front grill or hood bonnet is pretty cracked and destroyed anyways (the plastic on these older Bonnets get brittle) so not a huge deal for me tho I have wanted to add a grill gaurd but don’t like the fact that with the non 80 series BX’s you have to remove the entire grill guard too remove the hood bonnet so that was always a deal breaker for me cuz it’s not that quick of a removal.. I have debated installing a BX80 grill guard tho which bends down out of the way and may allow me to keep the grill guard on and still be able to remove my bonnet.. I may try it some time soon. Thanks for watching!

    • @chdinct6792

      @@BiffsEquipment I hear you on both issues. After 10+ years, one of those plastic tabs that holds the plastic side bonnet in place cracked off on my BX25. Tried gluing it back but it didn’t last. Like my heavily built front grill, but it’s a pain to have to remove it any time I want to get full access to the engine compartment. Lot of nice updates on the 80 series, but if I ever trade it would be for a larger model.

    My trees normally have a deep tap root so instead of cutting down the tree and digging out the stump I dig around a tree and push the tree over. The weight of the tree will help pull the stump out.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  Před 2 lety

      I totally agree! Leaving the tree standing is best or cutting the stumps high so you have more leaversge to push them down.. I cut most these trees before I had a stump bucket so I did not expect to be digging these but was actually planning on buying a stump grinder to grind them all.. the next smaller trees i need gone I plan to dig them out as they stand.. I have a few I wanna do in the coming weeks like that so stay tuned for that! I plan to leave the larger stumps as they are till I get my stump grinder next spring. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

  • @conkle26
    @conkle26 Před 2 lety +1

    Another great video. My question is how deep can you dig with the stump bucket? Luckily I have the backhoe on mine but my trees have long tap roots had to dig 5 feet down around some to get out.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks buddy! I can usually dig roughly 2.5-3.5 foot deep but to get this deep you need to dig in a way that gives your fork frame the clearance.. 2.5 feet isn’t very hard to achieve but after 3’ you really need to start making room for your fork frame which means digging the holes wider out in every direction so you can fit more of the entire bucket and fork frame down into the ground.. as long as your doing this then you can dig down as far as your loader will take you.. 4’ is gonna be about the very max tho I would guess. Hope this helps!

  • @HuserHelpers
    @HuserHelpers Před 2 lety

    Hey Mike, do you feel the added ballast reduces your down pressure? I always felt it was harder to get the loader to dig with too much on back, but load and haul was more stable. Obviously once you're under the stump it is a benefit.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  Před 2 lety +1

      Great question Jason.. I actually have never felt or had that issue.. I never felt like my down pressure or digging force was affected in a negitive way it’s only ever helped my to dig and push with more force.. if you feel your not getting enough digging force then you just need to put more weight down on your FEL and allow the rear tires to drive it into the Ground.. this is why you saw me lifting my whole front end in the air a few times specially when forcing over those big stumps as the more pressure you can put on the back of the tractor typically the more force your able to exert into that ever it is your pushing into. Hope this helps!

  • @glumpy10
    @glumpy10 Před 2 lety

    I wonder if there is anything like this available in Oz? I'd certainly have a lot of use for this attachment but not for stumps. For the amount of disruption to the ground, the fact you have to dispose of the stump and then fill the in hole, For me personally makes my PTO stump grinder a much better proposition. I have ground off stumps from Trees that were 37" a meter off the ground which I would have no hope of getting out with the BX or the 1025. Yes, it's not quick, good 20 Min for something like that but I feel it's much less strain on the machinery and I can do it where it would be impossible with one of these even on the 60 Hp Iseki. Trees the size shown in this vid would be 5 Min oif that and it's job done, no more to come back and do or stumps to burn or dispose of. I still think it's a great tool though and would add a fair bit of excavator like utility to a tractor. I'd sure like one but for me, the grinder is better on trees for my needs. Great and entertaining Vid. I'd buy one if I could get one.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  Před 2 lety +1

      Yah it all depends on the type of ground you have and the size and types of stumps your using it on.. you gotta remember too it can also be used for many other purposes, I also use the stump bucket to dig bushes, shrubs, to transplant, as well as trenching so it’s not only a stump bucket but works very well (for me) as a stump bucket also.. I don’t like to dig out stumps larger than 8” tho as every time I do it takes a tole on the machine .. anything under 6” tho is just a breeze with this thing.. litterally takes me a couple min to pop it out of the ground and typically I can back fill it with in a few minutes and only have a small divot in the ground when I’m done so for me it’s fine but for others they may wanna do different routes.. either way for the very small price tag it’s worth every penny IMO even if you only have a few stumps you need to take care of .. this tool quickly pays for itself

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  Před 2 lety +1

      A backhoe would be great but to me it’s not worth the extra cost when buying them after the fact of already owning the machine.. for the 8k+ it would cost me to add a backhoe even if I found it all for a smoking deal say 6k I can find myself a nice mini excavator for a few grand more.. this has always been my intention as I can do a lot more with a mini ex than I would be able to with the BX backhoe. That’s not to say it’s not worth buying when buying the tractor new tho cuz it certainly is.. but if trying to add one after the fact it’s really not worth it IMO. Also with these smaller stumps I think I can dig them faster than a sub compact backhoe could until we start talking stumps that are 10”+ in diameter in which case the backhoe would prolly start pulling ahead of the stump bucket for time. Thanks for watching!

I use to own a BadBoy zero turn 3 years ago and it was a nice little mower, I have seen the new Badboy tractor on Tim’s channel and it looked awesome. I’m sure your backhoe works very well for digging stumps too and is less work for the machine to do them.. digging stumps with the FEL does work great and at times is faster than a backhoe but I can tell you from experience that it puts more of a hurting on your tractor than using a backhoe would.. it really gives the loader a workout but it does get the job done for much less (in most cases) but in cases where the stumps are much larger a backhoe is gonna be better every time. Once you purchase their pallet fork frame you can then purchase everything else off them to fit the same frame so you can pay less for each attachment since they all share the same frame.. it’s a very slick, high quality system!

      The plate that holds the buckets is a pallet fork frame. This one is made by Artillian so that it can be used for all of their acsessories like their stump bucket

    I was just looking at a competitor stump bucket and then I saw this video!! I like that it uses the pallet fork frame so you kind of get 2 tools for one. Quick question, I have a BX2380 with quick attach. What pallet frame do you use? Also, the 3000# one has the 2 inch receiver, does that interfere with the location of the stump bucket? Thanks in advance!

      Hey Tim, the fork frame I use is made by Artillian.. I believe they have 2 separate frames a heavy duty and a light duty frame.. you would want their heavy duty frame for grapple and stump bucket work as it exerts a lot more force.. their light fork frame is made for their pallet forks only so that you can keep the weight as low as possible when moving heavy pallets with a compact or sub compact tractor .. as for trying their stump bucket on a competitors fork frame or a standard fork frame I am unsure if it will fit, I have never tried it.. I’m assuming tho that they have designed their fork frame in a way so that their notches only line up with their tools but I could be wrong. Hope this helps!

      @@BiffsEquipment thank you! I really like the flexibility of Artillian's products. I think using the frame as a base for other attachments is genius! I also watched the video of your grapple. I'm not big on the design, though. If you pick up a smaller log it flops around in the jaws. I thought a solution would be a strong bungee cord from where the hing is to the tip of the grapple. That way when it closes, it tightens on smaller objects, but still flexible enough to handle a full grapple. I appreciate you reaching back out to me! I'm sure I'm going to be ordering some of this stuff soon!!

      @ATR-42 Před 2 lety

      Tim the Artillian stuff is pushed a lot on youtube, I fell for it, It's "ok". If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't. I think if you have a PIN ON bucket, it's a genius system and prob the only way to go. However, If you have SSQA you are paying for "quick attach system" on your quick attach. The frame is heavy, and the thing is $800. Their grapple is not productive with single jaw. However, it is very effective with double jaw. The box style design is awesome. Its hose plumbing is not as clean as other ones on the market, and it's very heavy, 300 pounds with double lid. It is crazy expensive. The stump bucket is great though, its dimensions are ideal for smaller loaders. I permanently mounted the grapple to the artillan frame, and welded the stump bucket onto a blank SSQA plate. Besides picking up brush, I have put netting in the grapple and used it to pick up leaf piles too. The box style design is good for brush and log piles, but it can also be hand loaded, which a clam style grapple that lacks horizontal lower tines cant really. I love, and hate the system! lol

    Don't you think a longer stump bucket would be better? I know it would reduce your curling force, but it would be ok in sandy soil. Do you think it would be good for them to offer a short and long version. And, If you had a choice, would you rather have a backhoe?

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi John, great questions! As for the length of the bucket, the length of this bucket I feel is perfect for a sub compact tractor.. even in sandy soil if hitting roots you may need to have a lot of leaverage to dig through them so the shorter size really helps give these little tractors the power/force they need.. if they soil was really soft/sandy and you knew there wasn’t many rocks or roots at all then you could certainly go with a slightly longer bucket but I wouldn’t go much longer than say another 8”-10” at the very most.. now If you had a compact or a utility tractor then I agree you could go longer and I do think it would be a great idea if artillian offered it in a few different sizes for those who have suoer soft soil or who are only using it for trenching or maybe for those who have larger tractors so I will def mention it to them 👍🏻 thanks for watching !

    Year late ! I’m not sure if I’d “ do that “ to my bx ( front end lifting up while pushing ) could damage the lifter arms etc it’s simply not “ strong enough “ my l 39 back hoe no problem, had a 300 pound bucket made for it , close to 1/2 inch sides etc , plus the bx does not have enough stability to it even with wheel weight s etc worse thing , frame damage could happen , but they are little “ beasts “ ! And can do a lot ! Nice vid ! Best thing I added to it was a grapple ! Hey just get the dog next time to dig them up ! Lol 😅

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  Před rokem +1

      Thanks Stephen! Haha yes next time I should have the dog dig em up! As for lifting the front wheels off the ground to dig, it’s not gonna damage the loader, it was built for this type of work, and Iv been digging this way with my machine since day 1 and have never harmed the loader and with all the ramming and hard digging Iv done with the wheels in the air putting all the pressure down on the loader and boom rams. I understand your thinking though 100% but I seriously wouldn’t worry about it. Each machine is built accordingly to the power and size.. sure the loader is smaller than most but so is the tractor.. and so is the power it can produce specially the tractive power.. the loading being built specifically to handle the machine behind it.. now if you had a 40hp tractor with the bx loader I would agree with you haha. It’s all size relative is what I’m saying.. and I have TONS of videos where I do this and beat the living crap out of it with the tractor bouncing against the boom arms and all. Lastly I’ll say it is quite a tippy machine from the factory, but if you get some 2” rear wheel spacers like I did and have the correct amount of rear ballast on it you won’t have any issues feeling tippy or insecure running it on slopes or in unique situations.. I have both on mine.. and have a total of 650lbs give or take on the 3-point with the hydraulic pressure cranked way above factory spec and Iv still yet to have any issues either with damaging the loader or with stability after getting enough rear ballast and adding the rear wheel spacers. Best of luck buddy and stay safe! Thanks for the comment!

    That looks VERY hard on the tractor and putting a Lot of stress on a lot of components. Seems to me a Simple PTO stump Grinder would be far less stressful, quicker and easier for this job.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  Před 2 lety

      I’m not sure about it being quicker in a lot of cases but certainly less stressful on the machine that’s for sure.. but it also costs nearly 8-10x more money.. and if you only have a few smaller stumps to pull, and want to use the bucket for bushes, shrubs, plants, and to even dig trenches.. then the stump bucket is the only way to go.. if your buying this bucket only to do large stumps then you should prolly buy a stump grinder yes. I still plan on buying a stump grinder as well.. just havnt been able to afford one yet. All of the larger stumps are being saved for my soon to come stump grinder.. think I’m gonna go with the Baumalight. 👍🏻

I’m gonna use it to it’s full potential but I can understand those who don’t want to work it quite as hard and want to be more careful with it specially when buying one brand new.
