Sandbagging some 30+ Beginner with a 1989 Yamaha YZ250WR

I'm supposed to be racing 40+ Novice, but all my buddies were racing 30+ beginner. So I figured racing a 34 year old smoker against newer bikes and younger guys would even scales a bit. Got 7th out of 14 on the day. Not bad for the old 1989 Yamaha YZ 250WR.

That is the same bike I raced on in the late 80's to early 90's. It smoked just about every new bike out there except real fast riders. I got 8th overall in the Championship Series I rode in. Cool stuff.

People sleep on them for sure, but they're pretty good bikes. There's little ergonomic things that are easier on a newer bike, like standing and reaching the rear brake....way easier on a new bike. But the old Yamaha still fits like a glove. 💯

Haha I love this! Being a noob to dirt bikes like myself, it's entertaining to watch the differences in the way you take your corners and manuver vs the beginners. Great vid!

I'm nowhere near pro and for sure one of the slower novice guys, but bringing the old bike to a 450 party sure made it interesting. I had a fun time, even if I had to pick myself up off the ground and settle for a mid pack finish. 🍻

I had a wr200r with a pro circuit pipe, boyesen reeds and answer roost boost and it would get it. It would smoke a 93 wr250 on the road
