SRA Race at Glen Helen 8/25/2024 30+ Beginner Class
I pulled the motor out of my 2018 KTM 300xc. Had planned on racing my 1989 Yamaha YZ250WR, but couldn't get it running right. Thankfully, Michael didn't mind letting me ride his bike. This is me racing a 2019 Husqvarna 150TE. Super fun out there. Lost the seat half way. If you've never raced a small bore two stroke, I'd 10 out of 10 recommend doing it at least once!

Felt way better this race. battled hard with @aaronmoston2348 the whole time. We're holding it down at 6th and 7th. There's not a single sand bagger anywhere. 🤣 2018 KTM 300xc

Pushing through the brush on this trail. Been down it before, but it's been way too long. For sure needs proper maintenance and a good cleaning. Hopefully that'll happen soon and we'll be racing on it sooner than later. The first 5 minutes of this trail didn't record, so we pickup right here! 2018 KTM 300XC.

I hadn't really raced a four stroke since 2015. Back then I had a 2013 Honda CRF450R. Been a long time to say the least. So when my dad offered up his 2023 Yamaha YZ450F it was pretty much a no brainer. Obviously I said yes and took it to the races. Was only able to pull a 7th out of ten riders, but it was for sure worth the experience.

It wasn't quite desert, but it wasn't quite forest either. It was that magical in-between part where you got the best of both worlds. The 2018 KTM 300xc eats it up all the same.

I'm trying to get back into "race shape" and it's a little harder than I expected. Took a 4th out of 11 riders. It's better than last week. Lined up with my 2018 KTM 300xc.

I decide to ride up front at the last group outing for one time and all I have to show for it was a lousy flat tire. Of course, nobody sees that because I end up with a dead GoPro battery before that happens. Still fun following the boys on my KTM 300.

I'm supposed to be racing 40 Novice, but all my buddies were racing 30 beginner. So I figured racing a 34 year old smoker against newer bikes and younger guys would even scales a bit. Got 7th out of 14 on the day. Not bad for the old 1989 Yamaha YZ 250WR.

just a suggestion: your bike is really fast but you don't have the low end that the 4 strokes have so you need to keep your bike up on the pipe by stabbing the clutch when you exit the corners, breaking the back tire loose will also help you pivot quicker so you can get straight sooner, here's a video of a 2 stroke master, he may be on a 125 but the theory is the same for any 2 stroke czcams.com/video/8Xn0wcUIt04/video.htmlsi=X70ml0T6owRJvwLs
@pethelprc4721 , I feel like the 300 is pretty good on low-end torque, but I'm used to fast and flowy trails where I can afford to run a gear high and lug. It doesn't translate to moto very well. I raced a 150cc this morning because my 300 is getting some work done, turned out to be the most fun I've had racing in a while.

Was gonna do this race on Sunday. Should I bring my 350 4 stroke or my 150 2 stroke I am a beginner and it is my 1st race
350 4 stroke. you're gonna want some power for those uphills, and some engine braking for those downhills.
id have to drive 70 hours to make 1200 in 2024
It does seem a little different out there these days, but I haven't really gave it the full time effort since summer of 2022. Be interesting to see what I could do now.

What schedules and days do you work in the week to get that amount? And which area of Southern California? I’m starting and between Thursday and Saturday night all those days. I made 554 dollars in 37 hours and I did very little for what I spent on food and gas.
I was working every day back then. Of course, the perks of working every day was that I took whatever day off I needed whenever I needed it. My main strategy back then was to catch a ride to one of the bigger airports in the morning, work that area between LA and OC till about noon, then set a destination filter coming home and pick up anyone I could. It didn't always work, but it consists balanced out when the weekend rolled around.

That is the same bike I raced on in the late 80's to early 90's. It smoked just about every new bike out there except real fast riders. I got 8th overall in the Championship Series I rode in. Cool stuff.
People sleep on them for sure, but they're pretty good bikes. There's little ergonomic things that are easier on a newer bike, like standing and reaching the rear brake....way easier on a new bike. But the old Yamaha still fits like a glove. 💯
What part of SoCal do you drive?
A lot of IE, 909 and 951 areas. But I've been all over. Los Angeles, OC, San Diego, and everything in between. But I live in the IE, so I mostly drive there.

@nickyp310 , Santa Monica, on a Friday night was killer. I'd only done it once, but I remember it really being good. If you live in LA, then I'd focus on beach cities and hot spots in that area. Especially if you can set a filter and just stay in that zone. Since you don't live in the IE, I wouldn't suggest making a special trip. There should be plenty where you are. Palm Springs is even further from you, and I don't recall making extra money than normal out there except for when a music festival is in town.
