  • I dive farther into the ball joint swap to upgrade from kingpins on my 1972 Datsun 620. The entire stock front suspension is removed and I weld in the upper control arm tower from a 1983 Datsun 720.

    Thanks for taking time to explain certain things as you move along. The 620 build has been my saving grace. Awesome job.

      You're welcome! I know I went over it pretty quick, but I figure its enough for a crafty person to interpret and use on their own project. Good luck with your build!

    It's kinda wild they kept most of the rest of the chassis dimensions and such the same between the 620 and 720, but completely re-worked the front suspension.

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  Před 4 lety +1

      It is wild, but because of the massively updated style, it is a very welcome upgrade to all mini truckers. I can't think of anyone who would want to stay with kingpins except those going for OE restorations.

    Great stuff! I'm working on a 620 here at RB Automotive in SoCal. You wouldn't happen to have a replacement part # for the stock upper spindle bushing would you? I know your fabbing the newer 720 but was wondering if you had any connections for parts these old guy's. Thanks in advance for any info..great video!

    I know you did the awhile ago so hopefully your still around I start to convert a 620 my questions is what sway bar and steering components did you use did you keep the 620 in the truck are did you put the 720 sway bar and steering components in the 620? Any help would be greatly appreciated

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  Před rokem

      I kept all the 620 stuff. I will probably need longer outer tie rods because the 720 is a touch wider, but I'll figure that out soon. My 620 videos will start up again in a few weeks. Hope to have one uploaded by the end of September.

    I have a 75 620 with the drum brakes. Would like to convert to disks. Would you sell the sold disk setup?

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  Před 4 lety

      I've already sold everything. It was a hot item, to day the least. About the only things left that I'll have to sell are the carburetor and intake manifold eventually.

    • @joefoley5024
      @joefoley5024 Před 4 lety

      Yeah parts are getting harder and harder to find. I may have to do what you’re doing and swap out the towers to the 720. Are you also going to swap out the steering components to the 720? That’ll place the the gearbox and idler idler arm on the outside of the frame allowing space for larger alternator. Keep up the good work. It’s inspiring me to do more work on my Datsuns.

    Will front suspension from a 92 nissan hardbody work on datsun?

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  Před 4 lety +1

      Not directly...not even close. However, if you swap the upper control arm towers and front crossmember, like I did with the 720 pieces, then the hardbody stuff should work. I haven't done any measurements to be 100% sure of this, but as long as the lower control arms are of the appropriate length, it should work. I know that the Hardbody upper control arms bolt on from the outside of the towers, versus the inside like the 620 and 720.

    Drop spindles? Please explain? Cheers from UK

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The spindle (horizontal shaft that holds the hub) is built 2" (50mm) higher on the steering knuckle. This raises the wheel centerline without changing suspension geometry, which lowers the vehicle 2" without different springs, shocks, etc.

      @@tinygaragefab I'm getting a 79 620 and want to lower it about 2" at the front, so where do I get drop spindles? Cheers

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I bought mine from eBay, I can't remember if I bought the Belltech or Street Edge brand. Belltech part #2005. Advertised to fit 83-97 Nissan 720, D21, Hardbody. I don't remember the specifics, but I think they fit the 78-79 620 Ball Joints. Might need to Google that one...

      @@tinygaragefab you're a star! I've watched a load of vids on here about lowering a 620 front end. You are the only one who's mentioned drop spindles. Thanks so much.

    HOPEFULLY, your not going to lower this beautiful looking truck and stick those God awful looking wagon wheels and thin tires on it.

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab  Před 2 lety +1

      Well, you're probably going to be disappointed. It will be tastefully lowered a little bit and have some awesome 15x7 wheels on it. I'd suggest you give it a chance and not form the opinion that youre going to hate it because it's not going to be original anymore. It will be improved but certainly not tacky or gawdy.
