- This episode, I remove the body from the frame so that I can replace the rusted floorpans and body mounts in an upcoming video. Follow along as we discover how bad this old truck really is.

That cab was barely hanging on, I was glad to find my body mounts where still good. I'm mainly replacing floor pans on both sides and patching holes under seat. I also need to replace inner fender under battery tray and make the tray. Thanks so much for posting all your struggles and repairs, truly is inspirational.
I was VERY surprised to see that my battery tray was in such good shape, knowing how there rest of the truck looks. My new floor pans are going to be pretty cool, I've got some custom ideas for them. To bad nobody will ever see them outside of these videos. Lol
@@tinygaragefab I was surprised to when I seen your battery tray, I posted a video of my truck if want to see it, these old trucks need lots of work. I'm just trying to stay focused on what I can do.

I'm currently daily driving a 76 datsun 620 in northern Michigan. I love it. It was lowered by the previous owner and then it sat in a field for some years. I already removed all of the lowering mods and I can't wait to Jack the body up off the frame a bit, weld in new floors, slide in some hockey pucks, and fit something close to 30s on it. The rust is just as bad as yours, magically better and worse in some spots, but I can do it 💪

Yes, i think you are crazy for pulling the entire body by yourself, but an absolute inspiration. I have an east coast 79 KC that is just as bad, if not worse and you have inspired me to at least pull the body and see what I can do, instead of just looking for a replacement body down the road. Loving the content, keep it up!
Thanks dude! I'm in VA, so I know all about rusted out old cars. I'll be making all my patch panels from scratch, and will show the steps in the next 2-3 videos, so stay tuned, and I'm sure you'll be able to save what you have with some hard work and patience, Floors are a great place to start with patch panels, because they can be ugly and warped to a point, unlike exterior panels, which need to be as good as you can get them if you want the truck to look decent in the end.
I'm back! I really wanted to get the frame finished and the engine in, but I decided that the floors and fenders should be fixed first. I HATE body work, but I'll get through this with all of your support!

I have been stalling a lot, but I may get the new floors finished very soon. It was a TON of work, but it will be very worth it in the end.

Awesome! I know I'm super behind on Datsun vids, but make sure to stay tuned because the really fun ideas haven't even began to make it in the videos!
I always use a engine hoist and ratchet straps to remove a bed. Have never had help and removed a bunch. You can also take the cab off with the host. Build a jig that fits the seams and put it on the top of the hoist and lift up.
I have a 6' long 4x4 that I put through the doors and jack upwards with the engine hoist. And ratchet straps with a hoist is my usual way to lift a bed as well. But this time, I didn't have the room to do that, and since the inner fenders and core support are one with the cab, it wouldn't have balanced through the windows.
Since I was rolling the frame out from under, I simply didn't have the space to do it my normal way because the hoist would have blocked the frame from coming out. Its all good though. I still had fun.

Thank you! The Datsun is still getting some attention, but progress is going slow. I plan to get back on it full time beginning in February, and releasing one video each month, but the videos will be a little longer and have more substance.
Can't wait till the next video. Any ideas on when you will have the next one up?
I'm putting in some work this week, hopefully I can have something new up on Friday! As soon as this next video or two get posted, the build is getting cranked to 11!

I am in desperate need of glass. I need to replace all of mine. From both doors to back and windshield. Any info on where I could order it from would be awesome. Thank you brother. I have a local glass guy that I got my new windshield from. I never asked about side or back glass, but I'm sure that those can be cut from flat glass. The windshield are still made and available most places.

What a mess, but best to jump right in like you’re doing. Those old Datsun trucks were never built to last this long.
I figure I'll make new cab mounts from something more resilient this time around. I think ill give it another 30-40 years.

In your video you said the bed was bad but save-able. What would you consider no longer save-able? Asking for a friend.......
That all depends on your (friend's) metal working abilities. For me, I have some great tools that will allow me to replicate the curved bedsides as well as the corrugated floor of the bed, and really any other shape that it throws at me. If those tools and skills are not available, then a donor bed may be the way to go.

Yes. I got a new replacement already, but haven't put it in yet.

Sticker was on the truck when I got it. But Angel Motorsports is about 30 minutes from my house. I'm going to see about putting the truck on their dyno when its all done. Maybe do a collab if they are down.

The Angel that does the rotary stuff is actually in Virginia! I know they were on Hoonigans to do that build for the challenge last year, but they traveled for that. They, and myself, are definitely in Virginia.

I wish I knew more about its history. The tuck was abandoned when I got it, so I'll never know. Maybe the last owner will see these videos and contact me.
What's with the green oversized rims? That's what you call, UGLY. Nothing wrong with the rims the truck came with from the factory.
It had those wheels on it when I bought it. They are gone now and some amazing vintage mags from the 70's are going on it.
@@tinygaragefabI'm kinda different. I would prefer the factory 14 inch wheels and tires it came with from the Datsun/Nissan dealership. Not into oversized wheels and tires, lowering it to the ground and certainly not that ugly wagon wheel and thin tire craze going on these days.
