I'm 35 not all that well now..But still fit. Had my first boat at 13. I used to down rig for salmon.. That turned in to a 1966 40' all steel Chriscraft Rommer. With it's owen crain At 18 Then 911 happend and off we went. I'm the same kind of man as he...With the same dreams.. Just this spring got I got jammed up at a marina in Tobamorry Ontario By a very good conman owner. Who had me trapped on the hard trying to make me restore my boat there. Not ever the plan..Or where I wanted it.. Had everything tied up.. Boat paid in cash. I thought well wonder what pat would do I'm sure hes run in to a few funny Marina owners? And dreamed up a plan.. It worked. Thank goodness I got it out and Home safe with a 300km wide load road trip..I missed my window to warmer weather. But I'm working hard to be ready for spring.. Leaving from lake Ontario Canada.. On a 1975 29' Hughes.. My first sailboat was a Catalina27 1975 Like Patrick had.only on the great lakes .Its because of him I get in this mess and heading for salt . I'm thankful every day for the journey.. I can't begin to thank you for all the help I have received from your videos.. His passing was very hard for me..Nothing like I've experienced seeing I never met him in person. But I has touched me in spirit. Never felt such a loss seeing him have to leave you.. With so meny goals left to be completed.. Hes left us with so much information and experiences.. It will take time to in take it all.. Out on watch I'll be thinking of him..Praying for you rebecca. Please take care..And try and find the good in all this bad as he would have..Thankyou

I only know Patrick from your channel but his honesty, integrity, humility, adventurousness, practicality and love of life resonated through the screen of my computer, this man touched my heart and soul over the ether of the net. His passing came as a great sadness to me which I suppose speaks volumes, even knowing him long distance is more than enough to regard him as a friend.
How could you ever encapsulate the life that was Patrick in any shape or form, I could well imagine it may be considered an impossible task but in saying that your tribute to Patrick's life has done him justice. Thanks Rebecca for sharing Patrick with us, may you have fair winds and claim seas as you sail forward in this ocean we call life.

Patrick made me fall in love with sailing when I had deep depression. His videos made my days better and kept my mind bussy. I'm now looking into buying my first sailboat. Thank you for this tribute and I hope you're well 💙

Patrick was a knowledgeable man with a lovely manner. I really enjoyed his video's and like so many was shocked to hear of his passing. Wow Rebecca! what a magical and moving memorial of Patrick's life! As I wrote before, I had never met Patrick - nor did I know anything about him, but as a 74 year old male I felt really connected to him. I so admired the way he tackled some major and difficult jobs around Brick house and that made a huge impression on me. I lived in Cape Town from 1973 to 1990 and have some great memories from that time. You have some great memories and that is important.
Thanks so much Dave. Cape Town will always have great meaning to me, in every way...in many ways. The people who have supported me here will always be the good memories I have of South Africa. Nothing will ever take away my memories of Patrick, and my admiration of him will never diminish.

Patrick indeed found his soulmate in you Rebecca which is a very great thing as most people never do. I must say he did look strange in a suit at your wedding but it was all OK as it was on a yacht. I was a friend of Patrick's. Amongst all the repairs and refits, he taught me the value of a smiling attitude. While I only knew him, and you of course, thru the videos; I always felt he was speaking to me personally.
I recently lost my SO, partner and Commodore. Rebecca; your candor and attitude thru you trying times have helped me thru my own loss. Thank you so much for sharing this tribute.
I’m so glad my videos have helped in that way. So sorry for your loss. We must go forward. Our loves would never have wanted us to just sit and cry for them. Life is too short for that...and they know that even better than you and I do.
Patrick's videos were the best, something to be learned from everyone. This channel is a breath of fresh air in a world of CZcams sailing videos that feature bikini's and beer.

As with many others, I hadn't the opportunity to meet Patrick personally, however, his passing has affected me, it's sad to lose a friend. No doubt, there will be thousands, if not tens of thousands or more, who have been similarly touched by this gentleman's passing. We, your audience, were blessed to have a window into your lives, and to share our common enthusiasm and learn a bit along the way.

It's strange i never actually knew Patrick other than vicariously through the utube channel sailing Brickhouse, providing the occasional comment, i even thought i was offering advice when he was replacing the seals in your raw water pump, how foolish... as if i could give advice to a sailor as experienced as Patrick.. but he took my advice aboard and even responded thanking me for it. I have an overwhelming feeling of loss for a good hearted honourable and humble sailor, Rest in Peace Patrick, stay strong Rebecca, 💖⛵

Gosh what a very thoughtful caring man, I never met Patrick and I have just recently started watching your adventures but having been married to my best friend for 43 years I understand how much Patrick will be missed, but I really hope you continue your journey Rebecca I hope you find another person to sail with if needed so you can have new memories. thank you for making videos we can all live vicariously though.

Rebecca I know so well how you must feel. I lost my wife at the age of 53 after three months of cancer. It is five years ago now, but I am still grieving . I recently bought a 33 foot sailboat for a circumnavigation. I am refitting it. I want to cast the lines coming spring. I have seen all your, and Patrick's videos. I am really devastated by his passing. I hope you will find the strength to go on with what you where doing. I wish I could help you with your ' on going' travels. I wish you good luck on your journeys and maybe we will meet in the future. Looking forward to that.

I recently wrote a poem for a friend who lost their partner, It's called The Clock Stopped....the final line is: "I laugh and cry, and the clock begins again its journey, as must I." Dont sail yet. But am looking into it and making a Course. I guess the area between Cartagena and Alicante (where i live) is quite nice with Good marinas and also Moorings and Good Anker places. If You come around maybe my girlfriend and i can Show u around and maybe have a sailtrip with you :)
Patricks vídeos inspired me to take it in my Hand and Start my dream of sailing. And of course all the boat repair Videos help a lot when i own my own sailboat.
Where are You Right now?
I've been watching for a year or so now, and Patrick's no-nonsense style is what really drew me to the channel. I'll miss his insight - and to be honest I'll miss the godawful voice-overs and editing which end up making a very informative, unique, and watchable video on sailing that doesn't require watching them on 1.5 speed to keep my attention.

"The only difference between adventure and adversity is attitude" -Patrick Childress. Those are words to live by and I'll never forget them. So simple, but so potent. You and Patrick have inspired myself, and many others to be better people in so many different ways, giving us the tools to lead by example like he did. Patrick will live on through all of us, through you, and through all the lives you continue touch in the future. I just want to say that I'm gateful for the both of you, and all you've shared with us. I find comfort in knowing that new people will contuine to come across the videos you've made together and the videos that you will make in the future and find inspiration and guidance in them. I believe that Patrick would get a kick out of that.

We build our smal 18' sail boat in part because of Patrick and Rebecca's channel, It showed us that it was possible.
We have been sailing our lokir for the first time this season and I still have a hard time realising that Patrick passed away but am grateful for all the joy and practical tips he was (and is thru this channel) teaching together with you Rebecca.

Id only written to you two less than a year ago, maybe the fall, after discovering your videos. I was researching everything I could about buying a boat. After questioning why I hadn’t seen more of Rebecca, Patrick was quick to respond, and he was so honest and real. Surprisingly, I had knowledge to impart his and your way Rebecca. I have to say, it’s great to see you be yourself, in videos now, and speak your truth. I loved that man for who he was to everyone, and more importantly, for how he inspires us to be our greatness. When someone needs help, he was there. Can you imagine a world if we were all like that? Drop what your doing, what’s going on in your head, and help someone in need. In times like these, we can free ourselves by reaching out, making a phone call, telling an old friend I was thinking of you, I miss you. Hi Rebecca. Losing Patrick was a difficult reality for all of us who love sailing, learning about sailing, and being taught by a very wise and learned man. Sailing was Patrick's main love, next to you, but teaching was his forte. We all eventually pass on, and Patrick has found another vessel to take him to further places than he might have still explored here. But you still have a long way to go in your journey, so keep your sails moving in the direction of your heart. See you on the water, and fair winds.
I hope he found a nice Swan to sail on...that would make him so happy! And yes...thank you...my journey will continue...see you out there!

Whenever I'm out sailing, especially when solo, Patrick's tips and advice he shared through this channel are always in the back of my mind. His passing was the saddest day of my life this year. Thank you Rebecca.

A long time ago I went through the same situation. Love is the basis of everything and never dies. When in doubt, imagine yourself in his place and think what you would wish for him if he were in your situation. What was sadness turns into comfort.

I unfortunately never got to meet Patrick, (except through these videos) and that is a huge loss. I feel like I lost out on meeting an amazing soul. The sailing community, and the world in general, is lessened by his passing. Peace.

I watch alot of sailing channels and most I dont subscribe to but your channel caught my attention because of your wisdom! You can tell who really knows what there doing while being humble about things. I have watched your channel for years and have always soaked up all the knowledge like a sponge for that day I had my own boat. Well that day has come. I bought a sailboat a few weeks ago with the intent of having ocean adventures soon! Thanks for the inspiration and I am sure I will be re watching many episodes as they become relevant to my new experiences. A life well lived my man, your legacy lives on!

South Africa could have been filled with bad memories, but instead, the people of South Africa have been absolutely amazing. South Africa will remain forever a very special place to me. It will be hard to sail away from it someday, but by December, I hope to sail onwards.
Who am I to Patrick but a humble follower on YT who faithfully and selfishly watched every video he put out, thirsty to learn everything he had to share on his videos. I am part of his legacy as well; one of adventure, cautious optimism and endurance to last our brief lifetimes here on earth. I did not know half of his accomplishments until watching this video, yet he always made you feel like if we met in person, we'd get along quite well. I remember him sharing on one of his first YT videos that "Rebecca" wasn't quite in agreement on starting the channel because (and he didn't say this) what good could come of so much time spent putting it together? Well, I, for one, am very thankful that he did and through it shared with us part of his knowledge and spirit. He made many, many friends and built a community of admirers who he never met.
