My Enchanted Full Time RV Life in New Mexico : Now RVing! (Not Sailing Brick House #102)
Rebecca Childress drives her 29' class C motorhome out west, living full time in her RV! In this episode of Now RVing, she arrives to New Mexico and explores the many treasures of this Land of Enchantment as its called. Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Guadelupe Mountains National Park, White Sands National Park, Bandalier National Monument, and the beautiful town of Santa Fe, she almost wonders if she will ever wants to leave. Two people make it very tempting to stay camping right there in Santa Fe in her RV indefinitely! This idea involves a sailboat belonging to a couple who live there who want to sail the boat in the Sea of Cortez, where Rebecca has always wanted to go sailing! But alas, she leaves to the Colorado mountains, steering right in to trouble with the RV instead!
Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Guadelupe National Park, White Sands National Park, Bandalier National Monument, Santa Fe - all such lovely places to travel to in an RV motorhome!! BLM land abounds for camping, as does great south western and New Mexico cousine and music! Even some African music with Pamwe Marimba!

    I agree that woodstoves are simple and effective, but a couple of questions. How do you store enough dry wood ? I understand the constraints of the bunk, etc, but don't you end up with very cold feet & hot head where it is, so high up rather than the floor ?

    • @SailingBrickHouse-RVLife
      @SailingBrickHouse-RVLife Před 3 dny

      Hello. It never got the true test. We were heading to Patagonia when Patrick Passed. I had my cruising guide marked up as to what anchorages had wood available . I had it carefully planned. Many people that do this route run out of diesel because they use that for heating. Diesel is scarce there… many miles between. Like anything sailing and cruising , the best plan is to have a few different plans.

    No human being is totally safe at any time, anywhere. Even a 240 lb, 6'5" man. Nothing we can do about the ever-present possibility of something bad happening (predators, accidents, running into bad people, etc), so stop worrying and enjoy the life you have. Over the years I have met many women who travel solo. It is simple, use common sense in your travels. The biggest danger while traveling is feeding the wild animals in parks and this is something you should not do. I do not know how far the video is from real time. Most travel to the Southwest during the winter then migrate north as the weather warms up north. I live in Central Oregon Cascades and make a 60 to 60 day treck to the southwest each winter. I love winter here but a change for a while is fun. Over time you may find that your low clearance toe rig will limit your exploration. A high clearance toe rig will permit you to see much more.

    Only catching up now. Last video I had seen you and Michael were parting ways. More than a year ago. Just now watched the circumnavigation video and this one. I first started watching right after Patrick passed during Covid. You are an amazing resilient woman. I shed a few tears when you sold Brick House. 💕 It’s lovely to see Michael is still in your life. Here’s to all the new land based adventures to come! 🎉

      Yep… Michael and I will probably be friends forever though we aren’t a couple anymore. He is the best of men…but we on different paths now, for sure. I’m on my RV seeing my own country for a change, and he is on his boats down in Grenada living the sailing life! When you want to go sailing, it’s a bit of a disease and you have to do it… I’d never hold someone back from what they truly want to do… I know this addiction first hand!

    He doesn’t explain why you need a big heavy dinghy with a a big heavy outboard. Small light, easy to lift on off deck. Small motor, electric? , you are in no rush. Why go to a lovely peaceful anchorage then destroy that with a noisy engine

    • @SailingBrickHouse-RVLife
      @SailingBrickHouse-RVLife Před měsícem

      Sometimes you must travel 2 miles in a dinghy to get somewhere, or drag over rocks, or go against wind and waves. In a lightweight dinghy unless you put multiple people in it, it can be dangerous and blow over in wind and waves. Or if it hits something underwater can easily be holed. But yes i’m ideal conditions just like your big sailboat, lightweight can have its advantages too. But for hardcore years of service in all kinds of anchorages and landings . beat to have something that can stand up to LOTS of abuse.

    Good work. If you want to be neater , mask off the area.

  • @markthomasson5077
    @markthomasson5077 Před měsícem

    I recently used Aquasure (or ShoeGoo, etc) polyurethane glue. It takes a while to set, you have to stick down with masking tape overnight. Yet to find out how long it will last. Do know it works well in repairing shoes, very strong, very flexible. What is good is that you can get it in small tubes.

    • @SailingBrickHouse-RVLife
      @SailingBrickHouse-RVLife Před měsícem

      That’s is a very cool solution… the flexibility is key and if it works in shoes it should work for gluing a sail back together too! If you can remember, please post an update here in a year letting us know how it goes! If you can get another year out of the sail by flying the sail back together with shoe glue then it’s a win! Of course the problem with glueing a sail is that if it ripped in one spot then it probably is rotten enough to rip in another spot. I wonder if coating the whole sail with the stuff would make it last forever haha!
