CIW is an amazing program to get into! I was lucky enough to take it in high school and graduated high school with 14 certifications through CIW. Glad to see more people getting into it!
What's worse is when you try to sell your books back at the end of the semester but they won't take them because a new edition came out for the next semester. -.- Good luck in college!
What u need to do is got to ur schools "blackboard/virtual campus" where it has all ur courses listed and the books are found in the syllabus. If u dont want to pay a dime, go to the proffesor and ask him if there is a free e-book and if that doesnt work just try looking for the scanned version of the book or get the book from somone else who bought it and scan/photocopy all of it.
The book store should have an 'x days' return policy. See if you can get them cheaper online and return the more expensive ones. For next semester, don't know what kind of phone you have, but smartphones have apps that scan barcodes with the phone's camera and do product searches via Amazon, etc. automatically. As you pick up your books scan them and look for cheaper prices online, then put the expensive ones back on the shelf before checkout.
@LightboxGaming yea you're probably right, maybe not quite that much but I would have saved a lot, every time I asked anyone about it they would say "oh they'll take care of you at the bookstore" fml :(
LOL! ive payed over a grand for books. To be honest i love college. Took all my pre reqs getting my associates this year and looking for a major in Psych. Youll have a lot more free time and college isn't as hard as people say.Mostly large project and huge papers. Took basic comp classes myself and easy as hell since our generation is ahead of the game. Anyway its fun dont freak love college.
Yep, I said that's about $800 worth of books right there....I laughed when I saw your price. Sad thing is is that if you try to sell them back you'll get like $30-35 max for them. You know you've been in college for a while when you can guess book prices lol....
@obbma4ler22 because hs books are state regulated usually, and they aren't looking to profit off of their own schools, while college books are from professors looking to make moneh
You should check out Chegg.com bro. You can choose to rent the books, or purchase them at a super low cost. Chegg also plants trees when you order books so you can help out the environment too!
@ZybakTV Actually probably not, I doubt that you could have found them on Amazon, but if you could have it's about 50/50 that they would have gotten them to you. Textbooks are hard as fuck to deal with, especially computer technology books because they come out with a new volume every year, and there have actuallu seen a few book series that make new volumes every semester
I took AP Computer Science as a Sophomore and im now in my first year of Computer Systems Tech to get my A++ cert. and Cisco Networking cert. I know HTML, Java, C++. Message me if you ever need anything :3
So you don't know exactly what you want to major in? Because i have no idea and it's good to know that even people who are going into college don't yet know :)
i'm still in highschool (programming orianted) and i was super excited to get my first lessons in programming. Then finaly i got the lessons but also a fucking booring teacher. He was so fucking booring that i needed half a semester to even figure out i was still taking C++ lessons.....
@shakersman Here in Australia, I'm doing a two year course for my Adv. Diploma in computer systems engineering covering my Cisco CCENT/CCNA/CCNP(start of it at least), that leads into a degree at University with possibility for work placement learning(15 grand lump sum payment with payment for your 22 weeks of work you do during the placement)and im also finishing with a double diploma in networking security all for the wonderful price of $600. Not all schooling is a money scam :P
I guessed $850. College books are such a ripoff. It's even worse when you can't sell them back because they updated 2 words and called i a new version. :P
Zybak they making you live in Muse your first semester or since you live in Raddy are they letting you commute. My friend was forced to live in muse his freshman year. BS.
Wow you are two years older then me... What college you going to. Also you share the same interests as me. Java is very easy. Ask me if you need help or go watch the new boston great tutorials. But I learned Java this summer by myself its not bad at all.
this is a full time course load? I have classes 8-5 basically everyday M-F and it's only 5 classes, I think you got off easy ! Oh, btw, stick with Python and Ruby for programming courses to start with, leave C++ for later, unless you have experience.

@LightboxGaming yea you're probably right, maybe not quite that much but I would have saved a lot, every time I asked anyone about it they would say "oh they'll take care of you at the bookstore"

Has anyone noticed how loud Zybak actually speaks in his vlogs?
College texts are insane expensive.
When I bought my books for machining they where well over 2500$ you got off cheap. Also that was not for all of them. That was for one year.
i haven't bought books in three years
Nice man!
Floating head, everytime...
me too
Mondays always suck. :/
Why not just wait until classes start and then find out if you need the books. Sometimes the professors say don't buy them.
Another reason why everybody hates mondays...
