This guy’s playing is like butter. He should be a household name for guitarists.
He is in my household
@@seanmattoon3553 your household is obviously awesome.
I'm a guitarist and grew up in the 80s. I'm well aware of Mark!
He is
His solos are so tasteful and really fit the song. He also has a cool and unique for playing rhythm. Under appreciated in the guitar world, just downs get talked about much.
Ive always liked Marks playing, never overplays, always serves the song perfectly!
Amen, brother!!!! "House of broken love"....the entire song ooozes emotion. The lead and fills fit perfectly. Great guitarist!!!😁😎👍🎸🎵🎶❤️
Mark is a great guitarist just listen to House Of Broken Love it is a masterpiece.
I know that song on guitar wow awsome awsome song I meet Mark wow great guy
MARK'S GUITAR PLAYING IS 100 % PURE KICK BUTT ROCK N ROLL SPECIAL PROOF WATCHING THEM PLAYING LIVE LAST NIGHT I SWEAR THAY PLAYED SO TIGHT AND AS A UNIT SO MUCH ENERGY TOO GOOD ABSOLUTE FLAWLESS PLAYING STAY WELL YOU GUY'S WE LOVE Y'ALL YOUR MUSIC WILL NEVER DIE PEACE AND LOVE TO YOU ALL
Face the day you know it's a HIT HOW MANY OF YOU WOKE UP THE FIRST THING COMES TO MIND IS I DONT WANNA FACE THE DAY ONCE BIT WAS MOTT THE HOOP !!!!! But great white knew how to write HITS BABY
One of my all time favorite solos.....that guitar opening is a masterpiece.
Agreed, Mark is such an awesome player and such a down to Earth, guy.
I like the way he always gives credit to other band members.
I wish all bands did that. They don’t. Cat show with many of them.
One of the most “Tasteful” guitarists of the 80’s. Mark Kendall paired with Michael Lardie were a force to be record with. Both musicians are very talented. I love blues based guitar players that can crack your ribs with cool riffs and tasteful solos.
Wow-what a man down to earth, he did all this sacrifice during all this years for the music and for the band not for his ego.....
Mark Kendall is an incredible guitar player!!! incredible tone, incredible feel!! Great White is Mark Kendall/Jack Russell. Such a great band and brilliant music!!!!!
It really sucks because Great White will never be as good without Jack and Jack will never be as good without Great White. It would be nice if they could figure things out. Jack has been clean for years now and sounding pretty good.
Agree totally!
Jack's too good for these dudes.
jack's voice is irreplaceable
It was all a mess, despite the solid talent level they had. Somebody had stolen Lardie’s identity and was misrepresenting him as well as GW.
1984 I drive 300 miles to see Judas Priest in Biloxi Mississippi...Great White, who I had never heard of was the opener....When I was waiting to go in the venue, there were a bunch of people plastering these flyers all over cars in the parking lot....I grabbed one,it looked like a newspaper....it was a Great White flyer, with their bio and pics...I still have it to this day...When Great White came onstage,I was blown away...Priest was awesome, but Great White just resonated with me...That was it...lifelong fan after that....Mark’s guitar tone was one of my favorite sounds, and his playing still stands out to me as one of the greatest players ever...and Jack’s voice was so good....Great band and interview...
Tell your friends about this awesome channel. Jason investing ALOT of his time tracking down these band members. And these interviews are great.
I even made a short w/ the channel in the background on my microscopic ytc anyways keep it coming \m/
Wow, he's not wearing sunglasses! 😎
Good point I met/saw Great White in early 90's twice at Attic (club) and he had 😎sunglasses onstage but his playing was perfect. The second show they had Bobby Blotzer(Ratt) fill in on drums. Good times!🎸🎶
@@thomasbailey3511 Nice! I saw them in 88 opening for Whitesnake and they sounded great. Once Bitten and Shot In The Dark are great albums. I'm pretty sure Mark had sunglasses on when I saw them too lol
@@KISSFAN1970 no doubt dude when I saw them they were working the "Old Rose Motel" album.I think it was '93 & "94 when I saw them in Greenville,NC. The club was packed had to be overcapacity but the fire marshall was in club in full fire gear with fire tru k hooked up outside to hydrant and EXIT door was fully open. They didn't use any pyrotechnics or sparklers just played straight ahead bluesy rock and roll.🤟☮
The Ritz concert was awesome. Mark's playing and Jack's singing were amazing. Really loved their version of Since I've Been Loving you. I thought they did Zeppelin better than Zeppelin did live after a certain point!!!!!
true
Agreed
It is awesome what you are doing to help people Mark. Thanks for all the years of great music. God Bless You man! 🙏😎
One of my favorite bands ever. From Italy with love
I bought the first album and saw them open for Judas Priest in 1984. I'm out on the road and I'm rockin'... stick it... STICK IT!
Awesome tune and album!
First album was great I love it
Great Interview With Mark Kendall of GREAT WHITE Mark is a Very Cool Person Down to Earth Stand up Guy One of My Favorite Players of All Times Keep Rockin Long Live The Rock n Roll of GREAT WHITE \\,,//
Mark has been one of my guitar heroes since I was 15, I'm 47 now. Hearing his story and how he helps people beat addiction is so amazing...
Same. I think I was hooked when Hooked came out.
I'm 61 year old musician Mark Kendall's my favorite guitar player ever. It was either the late 90s or early 2000s I went to the toy tiger In Kentucky Stood right in front of mark The whole time he was on stage I was in awe Of myself. Such a nice guy we even spoke a few words back-and-forth to each other it was great. Watching this video reminds me of his facial expressions that night while he was hitting those killer notes
Face the Day is still my fav. by this band
They killed on that cover, great version.
Pyscho City was a stronger album than Hooked. There's something fun about "Old Rose Motel."
A very overlooked record for sure
I think girls go more for hooked !
So underrated as a guitarist he's done some outstanding songs
I follow Mark on Facebook. He’s one of the nicest guys. Traci Guns is another nice guy.
Mark Kendall....Killer Guitar Player....Respect
Mark played at my high school in Cerritos when they were Dante Fox. Like 1982. Those were the days.
Great band! Underrated so bad! Marks Underrated! Jacks Underrated!! Should of been alot bigger than they even was. I've talked to Jack Russell on many occasions as a fan and I can tell you, he loves and misses that friendship and comeradie he shared with Kendall! He states all the time how close he and Mark were. I, along with many, would love to see these guys back together! Jamming together or just as friends again. I'd be happy with that! #MistaBone
Nice interview, Mark! I love hearing the old stories!
Well, We can do without one of the stories unfortunately.
Old war stories !
This was a great interview . Great White is one of my fav bands . I saw them live and saw Jack R on his own as well. I love the guitar sounds . The shirt story of his sobriety is amazing. Thanks for this .
I agree ! They were a big part of the 80s.
I remember seeing great white.in 84.supporting whitesnake.when they played st davids hall cardiff wales.
No had heard of them.this man was just stood there.mop of blonde hair.sunglasses.played is ass off.jack on vocals brilliant
Mark Kendall live is just awe inspiring , Great White was unbelievably awesome to experience
Brilliant interview Jason you really let the guys speak which is awesome. Mark Kendall seems like a really good person so fair play to him. Best album from great white is Psycho city its a must listen.
God bless Mr. Kendall. You are an inspiration to me and my life.
Mark is a bad ass in a great way! his music will keep on bringing joy to people for years to come but the impact he is having helping out people...this butterfly effect will last generations and generations. Congrats Mark!
Thanks Jason! Love Marks work! That opening riff to " Lady red light " is simple but epic! Love simple epic riffs. Like " smoke on the water ". ( not comparing the two. Just 2 examples ). So many awesome Great White albums & always loved Marks stage presence with that Santana style hat!! Thanks to Mr. Kendall as well for his time & stories! You rock men, both of ya!
And thanks for great interview, loved it!
I love Kendall's blues sound. I like that he didn't try and copy EVH.
I sometimes think they had a touch of ZZ TOP !
Hi Jason. I really enjoyed your interview with Mark. What a great guy. I have been a fan of his forever.
Another great interview man! I'm so fascinated with the period from twice shy all the way through can't get there from here. I absolutely love hooked and psycho city!
Great interview. Loved it.
What a great guy.
Jason asking great questions. Keeps the interview moving. Great listener. Asking tough questions on band controversies. You ask the questions i would ask. So you know it has to be great.
Mark, u are my all time FAVORITE guitar player! ...as a long time great white fan, & as someone who roadied for ur band many years ago, i NEVER get tired of listening to ur playing... u have the perfect mix of rock & blues! ...enjoyed the inteview, thanx. God Bless ya dude
Class act, love me some Great White
Bravo to both of you guys! Jason Green, you give in depth interviews asking pertinent questions that fans would love to ask. Mark Kendall, you are my favorite guitarist of all time. Great work both of you!
Thanks for the nice words, hope you’ll check out the other interviews and spread the word
Great work from Great White.
I first heard of Great White, seeing them in the summer of 84, open for Judas Priest. I went out next day, and purchased the cassette OUT OF THE NIGHT. I loved that tape!! I cranked it LOUD in my car all thru 1984!!!
Mark is a great guitarist, underrated even in my opinion
Hooked is my favourite
Again love the channel..asks the questions I would ask!
I have been a Great White fan forever and seen them in concert many times. I love Mark's melodic guitar playing, thanks for an amazing interview
Yup sure miss this band
I've been a fan since the EP. They are timeless and awesome. Great effing interview. Mark is such a great guy and underrated guitarist.
Check out "Let it Rock". Awesome overlooked album. Released in 1996, ignored due to grunge.
Mark Kendall was always a brilliant guitarist for me. Glad to see him keeping well :)
Great interview. Glad to listen I'm not here people bashing former members. Shed a little late on what we all suspected. Mark's always been one of my favorite players. Good to see he's doing well.
What a great interview! Mark has always come off as a great guy. Kendall is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. Great White was such an underrated band. I was 15 at the time when Once Bitten Twice Shy was a hit. It was the song of the summer! I was one of those people who listened to the Great White Catalog backward, and yes those first 2 albums are very different, but they are awesome! Shot in the dark is 2 different albums in it self. The first side is heavy, and the second side is full of 80's glory with keyboards and rock ballads. It's AWESOME!
I meet Mark wow great guy down to earth 🌎 and other guys cool too but wow love your playing it taught
Me alot about playing guitar omg his playing saying those g us better noway dude u rock and I love Jake and Warren u just as good hell yea
Mark Kendall is a great guitarist ,one of the best out of the 1980 rock & roll .
Great White Greatest Hits....House of Broken Love....hard to believe it came from this guy, but he did it....off the charts amazing
Mark explained it perfectly. I've been trying to quick drinking for years and tried the exact thing he was doing and failing left and right. Would love to talk to him. Mark is the Man. Great interview. Great job, Jeff!!!!! 😎👍
One of my favorite bands. They had success and their music always rocked. I look at some of the other bands who made the big time from the 1980’s who honestly couldn’t hold a candle to Great White. Mark Kendall is a guitarist that can do it all. His riffs and solos kicked ass. Combine that with one of the best vocalists in my generation. The music speaks for itself. Best wishes to all the band members moving forward I’ll always be a fan.
love Mark, I wish they could have stayed together.....
awesome!!! ❤️🤘🏻
Mark is such a humble and nice guy...saw him on Joe Rogan many years ago and very impressed with him as a person...never a big GW fan.
Love these guys, saw them many times in LA even at Magic Mtn. Met Michael Lardie at Total Access very nice guy and my buddy Terry sang for them but Jack was the shit. Love em
God bless ya Mark 🎸
One of my favorites of all time. Great guitarist. Great guy. Love Mark.
I opened for Great White in the mid 90's in a band called Tribal Essense had the opportunity to talk with Mark for quite a while very cool expirience very humble just talked gear the scene and life in general cool dude
Back when I started learning guitar, "Desert Moon" was one of the first songs I got my teacher to figure out and teach me.
I love that song in my car in the summer 🇺🇸 loud !
Just bought “ Twice Shy “ .
My favorite soloist of all the LA Hair Metal Bands granted that GW was never a hair metal band but a wonderful blues influenced hard rock band. Mark's playing was so different. He was very melodic. His soli tell a story and are not a senseless flurry of notes. Beautifully melodic and greatly constructed. Gorgeous blues player.
One of my fave guitarist and great white is one of my fave band too
New found respect for Mark. Such a positive guy. Someone below was spot on, his guitar playing is buttery smooth.
The solo on once bitten twice shy is awesome!
My friends and I went to the show right before the Rhode Island tragedy. We were supposed to go to the show but because of a terrible snow storm, we didn't go. I met the new band in Hawaii and they were amazing...all of them. In Hawaii, there were absolutely NO pyrotechnics at all in Long Island, it was a huge venue but nothing happened. When Ty passed away, along with the people that perished, it was horrible.
Awesome humble guy, Fukkin Cranks! Always loved his style
Mark Kendall is an awesome guitar player and I have enjoyed Great White for many years !!!!
as a guitar player who also tries to be more melodic and play with feel, always loved Mark's style and lead work.
I just saw Great White live in Idaho and was really impressed with Marks guitar playing… he has a killer tone, melody, cool ambiance- bluesy feel. I knew who the band was but never really got into them much (I wasn’t into the so called ‘hair metal’ scene but gotta say he impressed me very much as he is not just another shredder and I had no idea how great of a musician he was. The band in general kicked ass 👍💯
Great interview! I thought you were wearing a black short sleeve hoodie. But then I looked closer and it was your hair.
Mark is an amazing person and phenomenal musician, 🤘 Mark I still have your HeadEast and George Carlin Albums, Good times huh
He always had a great guitar tone ,classic Rock Me should be required listening for guitar sounds. Seems like a cool guy
THE AUDIE DESBROW PIN UP! I LOVE IT! 🤣🤘💯💜
another one of my all time fav's. Love GW, I love Mark and Jack.. Learning to play guitar back in the mid 80 to later 80's..I had my guitar 'gods' Randy, EVH, Jake E., Vivian etc.. but Mark and Tom Keifer were my blues rock guitar heroes during that time. Still list them as some of my top fav's. They helped teach me that you don't have to just be flashy and be like CC. Even though I love CC and his stage prescence and his playing however, Tom and Mark taught me it's ok to slow it down and make each note count.
Eww ur guitar playing crappy
@@brandonbergfelt2530 yep.. every post has to have a douche..
I seen them at the alrosa villa back in the day and the new port music hall with my cuz what a great show much love from Ohio
On your knees,Shot in the Dark and the full album Once Bitten, and Twice Shy was and is still great. Some songs on Hooked and Psycho City have good songs too. Great White 🤘👍🤘
Funny part about the guitar hero part,Mark Kendall was the reason I picked up a guitar.
Dude was under rated.
Still listen to Sail Away all the time.
House Of Broken Love is sick, too. Love that slow bluesy rock.
Jason what bands have you been in? I met Mark way back in 97....He was a nice guy! Got a pic with him. Great White is one of a kind for sure! Nice interview!
Just found your channel Jason Man you are doing some great interviews keep up the great work
I Went to 80s in the Park concert in Melbourne Florida a few years back , Just to see Jack Russell's Great White perform. We stayed in a hotel as I was boarding the shuttle to ride over to the venue, I hear this guy singing . Yep it was Captain Jack Himself sitting on a bench outside the same hotel! ! Took time with us let us take pictures and the whole deal. Real good dude . 1st Time I saw you guys was Downtown Orlando you were on a flat bed tractor trailer . Larry the Cable guy was the MC !
The very first concert i ever attended was Night Ranger 7 Wishes Tour w/ Great White as opening band. i was in 5th grade.
Great interview. Thank you. Not a word about Terry Ilous!!! Elation was a pretty good record. Otherwise, the best Great White records are: Back to the rhythm, Can't get there from here and ...Twice shy.
Terry will be on in a few weeks
Once bitten was picked because it was previously a hit .Mark is such a great guy. And great guitarist.
Mark is well known with all the other great guitarists that fans like.
Reissue all the Great White albums on vinyl!!
When he mentioned Dante Fox, the EP record down on your knees on KMET and KWEST it all came back to me. I can proudly say I knew they'd be something way back then. I was just a teen but I knew they had"it"
Non of us expected that night to turn out the way it did…and we here in Rhode Island will NEVER forget what happened…I’m glad you guys talked about it… whenever I hear the name GREAT WHITE….it hurts…. And I watched this whole video because I really wanna let it go … and not have it bring feelings of anger….
I was on my way to work in Warwick that night.. skipped Great White to see Overkill two weeks later. I’ll NEVER FORGET from the start of my shift in a veterinary lab at 11pm the increase in deaths by the end of my shift at 7am 😢. The band in my opinion should have dissolved. Yes the Derderian brothers did jail time.. but still, all those innocent people and those living with horrible scars and health issues today. I’m not placing judgement nor trying to find blame, but for that band to continue? No way..
@@scoopthemids1612 I agree ….. change the name to Anything but…Greatwhite
Why are people still mad at the band ? Want them to change their name ? I can’t imagine the hurt and pain but these guys had nothing to do with that ordeal and especially mark Kendall ! The club , Fire inspector , and club owners as well as the tour manger are to blame if anyone . Not the band , not the name great white , this could’ve happened to any band or anyone at that same club because of the stupidity of placing flammable freaking insulation into the Walls and the club being way over capacity .. I’ll Throw in the bouncer and LOCAL camera man too.. leave the guys in great white alone and let those that have perished have piece ..
@@mattmacarthur520 you are absolutely right, they had nothing to do with it, and the corrupt and lazy ppl that were supposed to make sure things were safe for ppl that went to that place , completely dropped the ball . I do not go around telling ppl to hate the band , or to not go to the shows, actually, I never talk about them at all. For me, Great White or any music from them will always be connected to that night , and it sucks for all of us …
Thanks you sharks OF. SHARKS I WAS JUST LISTENING TO A BUNCH OF G.W. RECORDS A YOU TUBE GREAT MASTER OF SO MANY GREAT BANDS SOME I NEVER HEARD OF I BEEN PLAYING MUSIC SINCE I WAS TEN I JUST WANTED TO SAY IT WAS SO GREAT THE SONGS YOUR SOUND I ALWAYS LOVED GREAT WHITE A VERY SPECIAL BAND EVERYTHING IS SO TIGHTLY DONE DYNAMICS YOU'RE BAND WAS THE MASTERS OF NOT JUST THAT THE STRUCTURE OF SONGS LIKE OFF THE ONE WITH OLD ROSE MOTEL THE BEST OF GREAT WHITE IT'S BEEN A RIDE THE LAST TWO DAYS LEARNING SOMEWHAT OF DIFFERENT PICKS I GOT A RARE CD WITH A GREAT WHITE SHARK ON IT IT'S ALL LED ZEPPLEN SONGS BY GREAT WHITE YOUR STUFF IS GREAT I HOPE TO SEE YOU GUYS AGAIN SOMETIME STAY WELL THE MASK IS THE TASK
Have always been a huge great white fan since I was a kid. Mark is an excellent player. Very underrated IMO. I still think that they did jack wrong when they kicked him out of the band and went out with the GW name. But, cant deny marks talent. Band just isnt the same without jack.
Jack was with them last month in Minnesota. Just hanging out.
I was impressed with his guitar playing when I saw Great White in concert
I remember when the Twice Shy record blew up big in 1989, and I went out and bought a cassette copy. It became the soundtrack to my senior year of high school, so much so that my band I formed at the time tried to work up a rendition of "House Of Broken Love". What an awesome album that is start to finish! I wish they would've released "She Only" as a single. That was an awesome ballad and could've resonated with a lot of people. Mark Kendall doesn't quite get the credit he rightfully deserves as a lead guitarist, and Jack Russell has that Robert Plant wail down to a tee! I liked how they kept going in the 90's when so many of their peers folded. Their album of live Led Zeppelin covers is another standout release for me. I hope Jack can get his act together soon and rejoin the band.
Yeah, that guitar solo on She Only is one of my favorites.
