  • Hello all, here is footage taken by me, and a helpful worker there, of ex Xplore Dundee Bus 4076, ( V76MOA) Volvo B7tl Plaxton President at its final destination, to be scrapped.
    Orginally new to Birmingham ( national express), in Nov 1999, then transferred to Dundee about 2014.
    It ended up here to be scrapped.
    I've driven this bus in service, and others alike it. they were good to drive, and I'll miss them.

    Used to this out and about on my route. Was used in Cambs for school runs. It was often driven by a miserable sod who never waved back.

    Always a shame to see a vehicle being scrapped , the bus looked well maintained in its life and one wonders its history and all the different drivers and passengers who once drove or rode apon it , if it could only speak the tales the bus could tell.

    There is a similar example to this running with a coach company based in sheffield mainly operating school services ex west midlands 4089 i believe. The reg is V89 MOA.

      Dundee has still got a small handfull of old 54 plate Geminis, Volvo B7tl ( exbirmingham ones...

    For some reason, i never knew any of that batch got repainted into the xplore livery. Genuinely never seen it about. Seems weird they'd repaint that and yet they left some of the Eclipse Gemini's in the old NX livery and they still are to this day (approaching scrap themselves). The logic of bus companies!

      @@royfontaine5526 No not a waste. All the the material will go through the shredder. They'll get valuable aluminium, steel, copper etc from the process. The bus is no good otherwise. It's 23 years old, probably done over 1 million miles. All major systems worn out. If you think you can find a use for clapped out buses like this, you are welcome to buy them. Thousands go for scrap each year.

      @@PreservationEnthusiast I bet it worked perfectly and could have done whatever mileage it had done all over again. Recycling and manufacturing are energy-intensive processes, didn’t you know? Plastics and glass are unlikely to be recycled.

      @PreservationEnthusiast Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@royfontaine5526 It's just not cost effective to keep on using buses past about 20 years old. The floors are usually rotten as they go out in all weathers. The engine might work but all the systems like brakes, suspension and transmission are worn out. The interiors are shabby. Customers don't want to travel in uncomfortable unsafe buses. Refurbishment is not economically possible. That's why it's best to feed them through the shredder and recover the materials.
