Its always funny listening to middle class/upper middle class people try and explain working class youth movements. "marginalized voices" and "empowerment" all the modern buzzwords lol. Whenever they get involved the subculture always becomes stale and flaccid. A lot of kids did it because they like being part of a crew, they like beefing and fighting with other crews, and they like destroying stuff just for the sake of it, pissing off the cops. And it was fun. They did it because it was fun. It aint that deep, really. All that intellectual stuff might have been a by-product of the movement, stuff that came later when it was socially acceptable, the middle class started doing it, but the OG NY street kids spraying tags on trains didnt care about any of that. They were more concerned with stabbing each other and robbing each other than they were with teaming up to create a revolutionary art movement lol

that guy they interviewed from the Observer was so pretentious. Banksy has form and an interactive viewing experience. But they'd look at a Pollock and say "brilliant" even though it's just spatter.

What he's doing is still vandalism. He plays by the same street rules as everybody else. If someone decides to deface his art, I wouldn't be shocked or pissed off. It is a piece of the message Banksy wants to send after all.
