- A fresh military confrontation between the Houthis and the US military occurred in the Red Sea. Days after Houthis fired multiple attack drones towards American warship USS Laboon, the USS Mason shot down a Houthi anti-ship ballistic missile, and a combat drone. I thought that was only their newest aircraft carriers. There are no carriers in the Red sea though, because carriers aren't for protecting shipping lanes but for attacking countries. Destroyers are what protect shipping lanes using their aerial defences.

The Houthis have an advantage in that the ships have to pass very close through a tight funnel. This makes their targets a "captive audience" and also limits TOF from launch to target. Limited TOF equals limited response time. Morality and politics prevents a scorched Earth response to eliminate the threat. So the threat has to be dealt with from a primarily defensive posture. If you are in a fight and all you can do is defend, you are on the losing side.
