Diagram explaining Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) bombs and accompanying pie charts displaying their damaging effects (4:31). The factors of nuclear destruction (5:05). Blast and shockwave: Footage cuts between illustrated diagram and archival footage of bomb blast and destruction; Diagram exemplifying radius of explosion and extent of damage at different distances from blast site (5:11-6:45). Impact of shock wave impacted by terrain, i.e. forested areas; Valleys and hills can be used as cover during explosion (6:19). Thermal radiation: Animation of city demonstrating spread/ flow of light rays and extent of damage at different radii from blast site (6:47-7:35). Footage of fires destroying buildings; Man hides behind opaque brick-wall barrier (7:35). Penetrating radiation: Illustrated diagram shows flow of gamma rays and neutrons emanating from blast site; Subsequent diagram explains harmful biological effects (radiation sickness) of penetration on living organisms (7:53-9:50). Lab conducts experiment on different protective materials (8:53). Illustration of different examples of materials (soil, brick, fiberglass etc.) and ways radiation impacts them depending on their thickness/ density (9:03). Very rare document, nuclear-era Civil Defense films from the Eastern Bloc are way harder to come by than those from the USA or UK.
    (and the rest of the Western Bloc, even more rare)

      Some CD videos from the former Czechoslovakia, however there's also one b/w movie originally Russian translated into Czech.
      The radiation detectors in these videos are mainly IT-65 and DC-3A-72.
      One more military movie, this time in Slovak language: czcams.com/video/ZYL3Lb8S1w8/video.htmlsi=gcwYP8sqITc6GMgp
      You may notice very rare ion chamber radiation survey meter R58T and Geiger counters RBGT62, much more common but this time with rare version of the dial, I met such only once on online auction portal, although I have two pieces with the ordinary dial and also the "civil" version called NNC253T.

      There's many CD films from the Eastern Bloc, at least Soviet films are easy to find. You just need to know the language, but it's unavailable to many people.

      czcams.com/video/UwixZMAywtQ/video.html Mobile squad actions (about territorial CD rescue formation in case of chemical disaster)

      @mf5907 Answering you as if you are asking in good faith: the firestorm in Hiroshima that formed 3 hours after the A-bomb detonated is estimated to have released 1000 times the energy of the bomb. The smoke was inserted far above where rainclouds could wash it out.
      How many city firestorms are started depends only on how many cities are hit. The Earth has many more cities now than in 1945, and they are many times larger than Hiroshima was then. The bombs release from 10 to 1000 times the energy of the original A-bomb.

    In case of nuclear explosion, comrade, hold your state-owned AK-74 on forward stretched arms, thus state-owned melted metal will not be dripping at state-owned boots.

    The background music is subtle and artisticly appropriate, yet the tone of narration seems glibly detached from the seriousness of the subject. Reference to the "rabid imperialists" at 1:56, I guess that means us. Otherwise it seems a mostly objective and informative film on a deadly serious topic. Perhaps saber-rattling autocrat Putin should redistribute the film, be prepared to reap what you sow.

    • @TheRetiredPanther
      @TheRetiredPanther Před dnem

      On Novaya Zemlya (the north test ground) lived about 140 natives, united in the kolchoz (collective farm) raising northern deers. Most of these people taked actions in the World War II, and they jointly and consently leaved NZ test groundsite to live in similar tundra region on the continent. There were no protest. Another matter is the Semipalatinsk Test Site. That was a desert, almost unsettled and unhabited, without stable sources of water, but around it, there were many Russian, Ukrainian and Kazakh villages and small towns. Being at least in 70-100 km from the test ground, these villages were considered out of danger zone initially, like Las Vegas in US, which is placed within a similar distance from NTS. But later, the bombs were more powerful, and after the test of 1,6 Mt RDS-37 (the maximum energy of the bomb tested there), three people was die from accidents related to the blast. After that, the second test ground on Novaya Zemlya was established, and some villages located near the STS were included into the test ground infrastructure. There were no protests at that moment, because the storage supplement in these settlements was instantly upgraded to “special” position, which meant that a local habitant could buy much more products and goods for lesser price than in the most other places of the USSR.

      If by that you mean that Soviet/Russian propaganda always had a strong basis in truth as opposed to Western propaganda which has always been built on a foundation of mythology - tales of old glory, the myths of racial hierarchy or claims of revealed knowledge of an undetectable divine reality - then I am in complete agreement.
      I am reminded of the old Soviet joke about an American business executive and a Russian academic who are flying Aeroflot into Los Angeles. The American asks the professor why he is coming to Los Angeles and the Russian says that he is coming to study "why American propaganda is so much more effective than Soviet propaganda."
      "That is impossible" says the American "The USA doesn't use propaganda."
      "Exactly." says the Professor
