    To be clear, this Is a Leafs podcast, so you're forgiven. But you all don't watch the Oilers.
    Also, Nurse and Ceci have been the second pairing for months. Eckholm and Bouchard are the first pairing.

    • @pyRoy6
      @pyRoy6 Před měsícem +2

      They we actually arguably one of the best teams defensively since October. The overwhelming majority of the numbers indicated that they were top 5 at preventing the most dangerous scoring chances ...but the goaltending was league worst by far. Once the goaltending became ok, they were winning. When the goaltending got good, they won 16 straight games.

    • @alandaiweisi9833
      @alandaiweisi9833 Před měsícem +1

      @@pyRoy6 True. Although, I'd argue that coordination between the defence and goalies was the main goaltending issue. Once they started coordinating, the goalies got better.
      The Oilers used to wreck goalies. Not anymore though.

    • @pyRoy6
      @pyRoy6 Před měsícem

      @@alandaiweisi9833 I'm open to that possibility. But the numbers were staggering. The Oilers would almost have to practice making specific types of errors consistently, at least in order to "fool" certain statistics like HDCA or xGA over the course of 15-20 games.

    • @alandaiweisi9833
      @alandaiweisi9833 Před měsícem

      @@pyRoy6 Knoblauch mentioned this early in his tenure. He said because the defence was not coordinated with the goalies, the goalies couldn't predict where the puck was going to go. So the goalies had a much tougher time as they had the cover all angles.
      Now, that they are coordinated, the goalies know where the players are going to go, so they don't need to focus on the entire ice surface, just where the defence has less coverage. This helps the goalies a lot.
      That and the defences improved transition game and better protection from the rush (which is Skinner's weakness) is what's really made them one of the best defensive teams in the league.
      Let's see if they can replicate in the playoffs tonight.

    • @pyRoy6
      @pyRoy6 Před měsícem

      @@alandaiweisi9833 Hah, well of course Knoblauch thinks he did the right thing. Otherwise, he wouldn't have done it! I still think it's more likely that the underlying numbers were mostly correct. However it happened, though, the team is undeniably good now, and with goaltending that's good enough to win.

And there’s more, but there’s no point, the oilers are the much better team, the kings aren’t a bad team, but I think I take the oilers goalies, D, and forwards all over the kings. So as a Kings fan, I didn't want to draw the Oilers at all. I was praying for Vancouver, or Dallas, and the Stars beat us bad during the Season. If you take away the Oilers bad start, they are brutally good. As a Kings fan, I feel our only hope is Skinner getting wonky during the series. We don't have the scoring power to play a shoot out with the Oilers. I'm relying on "Anything can happen in the Playoffs" montra, and that's not good. As a lifelong Kings fan, this particular team has a bunch of good players, but no one who can take over a series. Kopitar isn't scoring 5 goals, and Kempe or Fiala won't either. If Skinner plays his game, my Kings are out in 5 or 6.

    As a Kingster, i hate to say it.... but i agree the Kings feel much weaker going into the series this year, which is odd because we're actually (allegedly) fully healthy which we haven't been in either the previous two series. My best hope is EDM has this sense too and maybe we catch y'all overlooking us a bit. But even that would be hard to do for four games.
    Our goaltending is ALWAYS questionable. There are games Talbot looks unbeatable, and games he can't stop a beachball. Also, the Kings are very soft. They've looked unstoppable against bottom-half teams, but any team with size and strength manhandles this team in the ways we used to be assert our dominance on other teams. Nothing needs to be said about PLD.
    EDM won in 7 two years ago. And six last year. We're looked primed to go out in five this year. Honestly, could be a sweep. Obviously I'm hoping for some sort of miracle, but this Kings team hasn't done much to inspire confidence or any consistency this year. The most likely scenario is in two years Kings are hosting a fire sale from top management down. Viva la Rebuild

    To stop Draisaitl in the playoffs is the key for a success against the Oil!
