Rainbow girl sounds like a White Lantern if she could properly harness her powers but they wrote her to be underused.
Color Boy's powers aren't useless. It's a matter of training. You could camouflage troops or transport vehicles. The ability to change the colors of random objects at a whim could induce vertigo in opponents. If I change an opponent's eyes to a dark opaque color I could temporarily blind a foe. Training and imagination are what's needed.
There were many heroes whose powers seemed lame at some point, the original X-Men as they appeared in the first issues were all a far cry from what they are now. Color Kid, like most of the Substitute Legion, could be quite effective, all it requires is some time and experience, and a little redefinition of their powers. In Color Kids case, he doesn't so much change the colors of objects as he does plays with light and how others perceive the visual spectrum of colors, with that he can play with light and the spectrum even more, changing colors, making people and things nearly invisible, creating fields of blinding multicolor strobes, and even plunging areas into total blackness (which works well in conjunction with Night Girl), even making realistic holograms, not as realistic as Projectra's illusions, but effective nonetheless.
Exactly. The web novel Worm is a great example of this, where a girl with a relatively lame power (controlling bugs within a few blocks) does incredible things with it just by using her imagination and creativity.

@@jacobluttrell1931 I don't think so, he can only change how the Kryptonite appears, he can make Green Kryptonite look like Red Kryptonite but it would affect Superman like Green Kryptonite.

I feel like Colour Kid COULD be powerful as a master of camouflage with some training? Changing the color of things to match their surroundings so they donât discover a secret fort, his teammates, traps, etc
I also feel like the Arm Fall Off Boy could at least LOOK cool with a more interesting design. I think how they depict his arms and the exposed joins or whatever look neat! The person attached (or detached) just looks really lame

Could be? He once crashed a starship by changing the color of the sky and the ground. He also can do hues of colors, he makes entire groups of people snowblind.
Rainbow girl could've definitely been extremely powerful. Imagine if they brought her back and she could wield a white lantern ring. She has FULL control over all the emotions!

Back in the 60's (and a little in the 70's), the Legion tryouts were sort of a comic relief segment in the Legion books. This is +where delusional characters with powers that were useless, or they couldn't control made silly demonstrations, and were rejected by the apologetic Legionnaires. This is how we got AFO Boy, Color Kid, Infectious Lass, Porcupine Pete and others.
In hindsight the problem with most of those characters was in how they tried to use their powers. The characters may have had the heart but they just didnât have the power for offensive fighting.
And those characters used their power in creative ways to kick serious butt. After the substitutes disbanded, polar boy even joined the official legion!
@@garethspotfur1 I could never figure out why they didn't take polar boy upon first look. He had a perfectly fine super-power he could control, and he was a natural leader. I think they were prejudiced against him because he was short. Meanwhile, the VERY situationally powered Dream Girl was let right in. Because she was a babe?

@@jacobluttrell1931 I've said elsewhere that I think they could have made CK legit in a fight, or at least a contributor to the espionage squad with a little imagination. He could blind opponents by turning the air black, and provide instant camouflage and disguise.

Colour kid could be a powerfull photokinetic. I think most of what he can do is undescovered.
I am not sure, but I think he could camouflage, absorb light by making something 100% black, reflect light, etc. When I was listening about him I thought about never having to use a printer, creating works of art, etc.

IDK, I think Matter Eater Lad's powers could be very useful. Also, in the DC multiverse, I'm guessing Rainbow Girl's powers could be used to summon any or all Lantern rings, which could make her OP.
I think if his eating ability actually "digests" as it should, it should give him the energy or abilities of the things he eat and that could be very powerful very quick. And it's not like he has to be a cannibal or something, I'm sure he can find some magical creatures or demons or something to eat.

I was glad to see Matter Eater Lad made the list, though his ability to make evidence disappear might've been more suitable to a villain.

he was shown multiple times biting and chewing then swallowing digesting metals, the main problem is he was not very useful unless some thing that need to be gotten rid of was stationary as he was not very fast or strong except in his jaws/teeth and his digestive system.
Rainbow girl and Color kid can be really OP if properly used, they're literally channelling either the complete emotional spectrum or part of it

Yes, old school, book writers were offensive with their portrayal of female characters. I know I hated the time when such offensive joke characters as Jean Gray, Wonder woman, Catwoman, Supergirl, Mary Jane Parker, Aunt May, and Storm were brought to us. Why couldn't they make some serious female characters back then?

That power has both defensive and offensive uses. It can be used to contain an explosion from harming anyone, or used to crush someone.

The "five year gap" era of the Legion of Super heroes showed just how powerful the Legion of Substitute Heroes and Matter Eater Lad could be. In the series M.E. Lad gave up super heroics and went into politics. The way he was written was absolutely amazing. I miss that version of the character.

Mutunts are born with the X--gene which is where their powers come from. Blade does not have the X-gene.

Idk but I think rainbow girl can became OP in a right writer room if she can tap the power of the emotional spectrum they can make her a lantern without a ring easily making her the most powerful lantern I think she can still be salvage if DC wants to.
She was created before the Emotional Spectrum, so now she could be someone who naturally taps into the spectrum.
