There was a Cypher issue where he saved everyone (on Earth) from an alien invasion because he was the only one that could stop a bomb from going off. I think it was made directly as a response for the fans that were saying that he was too useless.
Not just that, but they rip on Ramsay so hard when it's been four years now since Dawn of X, and he's been the Voice of Krakoa ever since. Y'know, the living Island that's been feeding off of millions of mutants constantly, and is well, -well- beyond where the mutant island's been before, power wise.
@Leucienfireweaver Also, no combat applications? He could probably read enemy tactics in general easily just as he uses it in hand to hand combat. It has the potential to make him a tactical god. However the X-writers will probably never explore this, seems like they talk more about politics of krakoa and Marz and the vault and orcas and blablahblahblah. They keep retconning people like Warlock and Longshot, as well as Brood and other to no longer have the x-gene or whatever, I thought the point wasn't the x-gene but the fact that they were mutants of their own kind.. FFS I am getting flashbacks of midiclorians all over again!
There is an easy work around the problem of not being able to attack anyone but your partners and it's to only have people (and/or things)you hate as partners

One power added to Douglas Ramsey was reading body language, giving him like super martial arts skills...
cypher makes a far better villain. could be trained by belassco.
Don't pair Mr Immortal with someone like Friendly Fire
Warren can still turn into Archangel, how do you not know this?
