Many years (decades) ago, just after the original Dark Phoenix saga, my comic loving friends and I had fun speculating what would happen to other mutants who were bombarded by cosmic rays. (So Fantastic Four were humans who were changed by cosmic rays, and Jean Greys story was "what happens when a mutant is hit by the same type of cosmic rays as the FF". (They even made a point of drawing them the same.) Personally I liked the original story better than "the Phoenix Force".) (Kind of a power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely, thing.) Then it became Omega Level.

How do you think Marvel is going to explain the X-Gene for anyone in the MCU?
One of two ways. First, the snap happened on earth 3 times, unleashing untold amounts of cosmic radiation, possibly enough to forever change some of humanity's genome. Second, it's an offshoot of interaction between Deviants and proto humans that took several millenia to develop for most, with some notable exceptions (Apocalypse, Selene, Exodus).
Probably Reality Manipulation, But thatâs just my theory!!
