    I kinda blame Jennifer Lawrence for how bad the movies got. She kept pushing to have her character be the "hero" of every movie(Mystique names everyone, inspires everyone to be a team etc), refused to play the character she was given, which inevitably forced them to change the scripts around to make her a more prominent character, and refused to wear the make up so they had to either put her in a full uniform or let her walk around as a human. Which goes against the Mutant pride she had when it was Rebecca playing the character.
    Maybe she didn't single handidly do it, but she was open about how many things she complained about during filming it's not crazy to think she was one major cause of how the quality dropped so hard so quickly.

      They should’ve utilized other mutants and phased her character out after DOFP. I felt like her arc was completed by then.

      @DeeDeeDeeeee Před 9 dny +3

      It’s funny that you say that because after DoFP, she was very open abt wanting to leave the franchise. If she had it her way, she would’ve never comeback for apocalypse or dark phoenix, which were obviously the movies that killed that character specifically.

    My big problem with this movie was how the writer chose to keep the whole *Xavier created the Phoenix identity by fracturing Jean's mind* thing from LAST STAND even though they decided to create an actual PHOENIX FORCE that finds her. They're on a new timeline now thanks to DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. There's no need to force that plot point into this story. It doesn't matter that Jean glowed in a *phoenix-like shape* in the last film. It was just a visual easter egg for fans, it wasn't canon that Jean was doing an actual Phoenix thing. It would have been enough to say that Jean was afraid of her own power and never let loose until the fight with Apocalypse, and that the PHOENIX FORCE freed her from those inhibitions while giving her a massive power boost.
    Having Vuk show up acting like her friend and the devil on her shoulder in that confrontation with Magneto and the Professor when her only purpose was to *steal the power for herself* was also dumb as hell. It took away Jean's autonomy in a moment where having her judgment warped by the PHOENIX FORCE should have been enough of a conflict. Then when Vuk suddenly turns on her you're only left wondering what the point of the rouse was, other than to deliver exposition. The story overall was too convoluted, juggling too many things at once for the plot to both flow smoothly and be cohesive.
    The fact that they completely changed the ending at the last minute from a space battle to that train fight, because they didn't want CAPTAIN MARVEL comparisons probably helped the movie in the end. I mean, can you even imagine the convoluted mess required to force them back into space just for what was an X-MEN vs mob gank and boss fight? It probably would have looked cool, but it would have been dumb as hell.

    I feel like after DOFP, they should've saved Apocalypse for like the 4th or 5th movie, once we established the newer characters and got to know them,, then, for the last movie, do Dark Phoenix again, and maybe then, it would be more impactful. Never really cared for Jean or Cyclops in the new movie because we never got anything to work with in Apocalypse.

  • @rsync9490

    Apocalyse killed that franchise. Dark pheonix was created near the very end of that movie run. Of course Logan was also released a few years before dark pheonix. The gifted series also ran around that time as well(love that series even though it had its issues.
    Also how is the xmen going to space jarring? Captain marvel's movie aired around the same time and she went to space all the time. And the guardians of the galaxy franchise movies exist so space travel is very normal by 2019.

    I feel like the reason the uniforms look like shit is cos of this whole "body positivity" movement that wants to make good looking people look frumpy and less attractive. These movies/shows try to check off as many ideological checkboxes as possible and get written by commitee - none of whom could individually write their way out of a paper bag - rather than allowing a passionate writer or two make something good and coherant. The craziest thing about these comic book movies is they have so many already great stories written in the comics but they wont just use it as is, they meddle with it to the point it sucks. Also, yeah, the casting is pretty bad to begin with. Live action comic book movies will never come off as well as animated ones either simply because trying to translate the art of comics into reality always feels uncanny. I still feel the best representantion of the xmen we ever got was the cartoon.

    All of the X-Men movies killed the X-Men, especially the later ones. The characters were misrepresented and watered-down versions of themselves. Too many characters were downplayed and sidelined with most of the focus on Professor X, Magneto, Mystique and Wolverine. There was also an abundance of miscasting of the roles. X-Men : The Animated Series, for me, is the only adaptation to get things right. I doubt the MCU's version (whenever it happens) will be much better than the movies already out since the MCU keeps being ruined by political pandering, shitty and lazy CGI, ridiculously bad writing, and giving fans projects no one wants. Seriously, who gives a flying fuck about an Agatha Harkness (from WandaVision) series ?!

  • @philipandrelogonzales2569
