I love the fact that just before he says it, there must have been a split second where he wondered if he should and then he just does. That's part of what made him a comic genius his willingness to go where others wouldn't and judging the limit and tone of the room he's in. A genius who is greatly missed. Joe at 8:25 is just *fantastic*. It's really impressive to see how quickly he turned something that otherwise could have become incredibly awkward, into something that everyone can laugh at, by throwing himself under the bus.

The thing about this, is Joe and Rachel are actually amazing friends, so I like to think he was coming to her defence a little there, without making it sound like "leave her the eff alone" ..

aside from the wank joke and joes magic, rachels response to the chile heat it took a second or two but her eyes say it all.
I feel like you can't help but be witty and clever with jokes when part of your job is to spend the day with a minimum of 3 famous comedians, but it certainly doesn't hurt that she's smart as hell to begin with. Also, so many of those comedians creating comedy history - "challenging wank" and the "I'd be magic" will remain some of the greatest jokes of Countdown forever.

she is perfect which is why she's so popular. People liked Carol because she was good looking and super curvy. People like Rachel because she's beautiful and sexy, and the new lady Anne-Marie is just a genius brain who had a Masters at age 19.
Her only downsides for me is that she's a diehard Tory and she's quick to call anything and everything anti-Semitic. Thankfully almost perfect is good enough for me.
