      Not fat Americans lol. They like their 38 inch wide Hobie Pro Anglers

    • @cobbs
      @cobbs Před 5 lety +4

      @@TridentDriver I'm an American, and... you're right. Every year, kayak companies keep pushing out fatter, heavier, slower, plastic kayaks, and people keep buying them up. Americans are convinced the Pro Angler is a great offshore boat. They must be, bc I see so many of them beyond the breakers. A true offshore boat takes on surf, wind, and breaking swells fluidly, and they move fast, like 5-6mph cruising speed fast, and the Pro Angler, as well as many other kayaks I see offshore, definitely do not. Man, I wish there was a company like Stealth or Kaskazi here in the states.

    • @TridentDriver
      @TridentDriver Před 5 lety +2

      @@cobbs I'm an American too and Jackson has took quit making the Kraken 15 and Wilderness Systems has quit making the Thresher 155 because people weren't buying them. Even those boats are wider and shorter than these Stealth kayaks. But the thing is, is that these Stealth kayaks are absurdly expensive and only good at 1 thing which is offshore. You aren't going to anchor up in a river and catfish off of one or Sheepshead fish by a bridge with one or heaven forbid take it in a marsh with Oyster rock.

    • @mungbean84
      @mungbean84 Před 5 lety

      @@TridentDriver I river fish and bass fish from my stealth regularly. Sure you can't shoot the rapids on it, but I would happily take it on any river (without crocs). Stealths are similar money to a hobie here and so much easier to live with all round. Definitely not just good for one thing. Just really good at one thing and pretty good at everything else too.

Just ordered a Wavewalk S4 microskiff which can handle a 10+HP outboard (20 if you're insane).. That's how I found your videos by looking up other microskiff boats! Liked, subbed and still checking out that stealth powerfisher! but alas, the S4 won me over. Keep cool and motor on!!Be catching you around and maybe even with my microskiff next season

    One suggestion Rod, I would have cut the sounder cable to reduce the size of the hole, it worked for you, but for next time, that's what I would do... and it helps you to cut the sounder cable to length as well and not have another 2kg of copper excess... I have rejoined the sounder cable successfully, but you need to know what you're doing, especially with the screening shields on each pair of cables - to make sure you have the screen down pat, also to solder and use glue based heat shrink to isolate each solder joint and the cable together... then to use self amalgamating tape to seal the entire cable join together...

  • @reelingfish8663
    @reelingfish8663 Před 4 lety

    Hey Rod , you mention the new install of your transducer creates a lot less drag. I wondered if you knew the speed difference? I have an install similar to your old one where the transducer is hung over the side of my Profisha525. I reckon having the transducer hanging over the side is costing me about 0.6-0.75 kph on my cruising speed - or resulting in me having to push a lot harder to maintain the same cruising speed without a transducer. Its a big plunge for someone to cut a hole in an expensive ski if the gains aren't very big. Appreciate a response, cheers

    • @rokkitkit
      @rokkitkit  Před 4 lety

      I would say I found the same with the bracket hanging over the side. I notice less drag with the new install if any at all, but yes it can be a daunting task to make that drill hole. 👍

    Beautiful looking kayak but seems the factory could have made it a bit easier to install a fish finder. Must feel great to paddle.

      Yea, I think its a case of over time as the offshore fishing guys have only now started to use the big sounders because the batteries have gotten better (or lighter) so its been low on the list. But I think from here on we will see some new ideas coming though. These kayaks are more stable then you think but a bit more frisky than your average plastic, always a sacrifice in stability for speed.

    Hey .. did you ever have issues with the hole in your kayak for the transducer? I just got the older style 475 (without the live bait well) and was grateful to see this video.
    I'm curious as to whether the Stealth guys ever picked up on it. I'm thinking that at some stage they might consider having a dedicated under hull section for a transducer like the Hobie's do.
    Also, I wondered if you were happy with the fishfinder on the hatch. I have mine mounted on the side, of my Revo 13 (which is going), so I'm curious as to whether you stuck with your approach.
    Thanks for taking the time to post your videos by the way.

      I haven't had any issues so far so im happy, but I do know that a new inbuilt transducer recess has been done on the new models so id say from here on id be using that. I like the sunder in the centre as Sid amount can sometimes interfere with paddling 👍

      @@rokkitkit Cheers. Thanks for taking the time to get back. I'm guessing that the new models with transducer recess must have a grommet of some sort. I'll be in touch with them. Thanks again for your time ☺️

    Rob - Great videos man!
    Quick one, I see you've installed a Lowrance - What features would you say you enjoy most from a finder?
    As, I'm trying to compare options in terms of specs.
    Thanks - from Mauritius.

      I enjoy using the side scan but I can get away with just regular sonar and chart. As long as I can mark spots quickly as I find them I’m generally happy. Fish revel is cool but I don’t often run it as I’m used to regular sonar.👍

      @@rokkitkit Awesome thanks! - And would you say mounting the transducer externally vs in the hull makes a big difference?

  • @stealthkayaksjapanuchi5156

    Hi Rod, I’ve been kept watching this vid since I decided to get my 475 this year, one question is about the black colored scratch pad you’ve added on the bow. Is it one of the rubber pad in the Stealthkayaks’s accessories lineup? Or you just made it by yourself?
    Id appreciate if you could advise what material you used. Thanks🤙

      I added the black part so it went over the clear scratch pad so I didn’t have to remove it when painting. The clear ones work well if you have one on already. The material I used is just some left over boat floor matting from the skiffs. It’s was from eBay👍

    Seems like that kayak would flip over easy.

      Always a compromise with a kayak between speed and stability. Check out the next vid to see how she handles in the surf 👍

    Awsome kayak! Is it possible to mount the tranducer inside the kayak? I think the sonar would travel through single skin no problem?

      Side scan needs to be mounted in the water unfortunately. If you're not going side scan or too worried about temp readings then internal mount work a treat.
