I wrote this one early 2023 while quite unwell. The first version was recorded on a noisy interface that had a huge bleed problem which was an especially rough issue with this arrangement. I couldn't get the sound I was after so I left it. By the time I upgraded my interface, I was onto other music and left Shadow on the bottom of the "to do" list. A few months ago I tried a built up arrangement with my trippy loops and gizmos but...I wound up going right back to this original, stripped down vibe.
Back in early 2023, I shared the noisy demo with my buddy Joel (Red Heaven) and he took a shine to it. Long story short, our conversation about writing and life and collaborating led to the invite to our Zoom Group of Creatives. Which has changed my life and is responsible for me being here, putting out music like this. Through Zoom Group I met Allison2020 and Digital Droo. - Hudba

Thank you! The song “came to me” this way and I quickly came up with a demo nearly identical to this minimal arrangement. The urge to give it big dynamics was definitely explored a few different ways. But in the end… I wound up back to the stripped down story.

What an amazing song. It is so unique -- the way your vocals seem to come to a stop in the verse at times -- I don't think I've ever heard anyone do that -- it's very effective. Also you really nailed the sick way our minds work to try to poison us and keep us down! I work really hard to get some distance from all the mind noise and to realize that it's just something the mind likes to do to make it feel important and useful when the opposite is true. It's actually when it quiets down that we finally get a little peace and a bit of happiness.

I was in “the thick of it” when I wrote this. Entirely fed up and tired.
Lately I’ve been sitting with the shadows…. taking them out to …. Hypothetical picnic lunch. I mean prying their fingers off the wheel of the struggle bus…. sitting with them and asking them what they need to tell me. And then… listening. Thanking them…. Then drop them off with cab fare and leaving them at a safe place. Where they can float away. And or maybe return. But.….. working with them…. And checking to see what they are trying to say and understanding it if I can. It’s a lot of work.
@@lizaday9374 That's amazing Liz -- you have such a way with words. I think that makes a lot of sense to try to understand why those thoughts (or shadow people) are in there -- what's causing them, where are they coming from, but hopefully at the same time have enough distance from them to keep from being swept away by them.
