    The 'Concours de Castells' takes place every 2 years in Tarragona, Spain and has had UNESCO World Heritage status since 2010.

      @@CallmeliekeHi ! There was a team a few years ago in Hoorn I think but I didn’t work out, Now I think there is no team in The Netherlands….

    i love catalan culture so much this was one of many cool things ive seen there, im from Quebec we facing similar cultural challnges also about preserving our own identity, hopefuly i go back soon

    This tradition exists in India as well (in Maharashtra state). It is known as Dahihandi. These human towers come up during the festival of Janmashtami.

    This used to be an event for school kids in Japan, too, but it’s been going out of fashion because of injuries.

      Y toma, y dale, y sigue, y dale y toma que catalán paquí y pallá en la sección de comentarios .... basta ya, como si a un australiano le importase algo el sentimiento de identidad. Si va de Castells! no del pu****ñetero romanticismo local. Ya está bien, a ver si nos salimos de la burbujita y nos damos una vuelta por Hispanoamérica, así nos enamoramos de algo más que de nuestra ombligo.

      I can't really tell if you're being sarcastic or not xd, but in case you don't know, obviously falls are not the default dismounting strategy.
      Only 3% of the towers fall, but they get overrepresented in media due to its espectacularity.

    Truly beautiful tradition, but it seems it would be a lot safer to collapse the human pyramids layer by layer instead of allowing the whole thing to implode all at once. Just a thought.

      That is the idea, indeed. Actually, only about 3% of the attempts fail, but most documentaries over represent falling towers because they are more spectacular, I guess.

      When you see a fall from the stands it seems very shocking. It may even seem that someone has died, but I have friends who practice that tradition and they have told me that when there is a fall it doesn't really feel heavy,, all the weight of the fall is cushioned between many people
