Good video. I had the loan of a 310r sport last week, while my f900XR TE was in for a service. I was so taken with it, I took the 310gs out for run. Consequently I’ve sold my XR and bought the baby gs. Happy days ahead, I’ll be 73 next birthday.

Nice video! It's much more true and unbiased than everything else on CZcams. BMW did make a really good baby GS. Being an owner of a big 1250GS, I bought the 310 as my second bike. I am having so much fun with it. Which I could not do with the big GS. Small weight, agility and size made this my main go-to bike for almost everything I do. And 1250 is now sitting in the garage most of the time.

Hi thanks for watching and the compliment. I am seeing that same trend in which people have bigger bikes and are downsizing. I have a larger motorcycle and it is sitting in the garage as well. I have so much fun riding theg310gs and don't think I will go back. again thank you!

I don't commute on my G310GS and only use it for the occasional errand around town but mostly for fun trips - day rides and (so far) short camping trips. I'm working up to longer trips. You have 4 times the distance on your bike that I have but my G310GS has been 100% reliable for the last three years. I do the regularly scheduled maintenance and so far it's been cheap to keep!

On the road in the sense of on the road around town, sure, great, but on the highway, at least in Australia with the distances between cities, it is dangerously under powered, unable to easily maintain 110 km an hour in a stiff headwind, and puts you at the mercy of trucks and basically every other road user. Quite simply the worse bike I've ever ridden for long distances on the highway. I love it for around town and dirt tracks but make no mistake this is not a proper touring bike or highway capable machine in any sense of the word. I hope this comment gives pause for thought if you're considering this bike for touring any kind of distance with luggage.

I've always ridden small dual sport thumpers, off road as a teenager, and as an urban assault vehicle to commute in my 30s. For my 60th birthday, I bought myself a 2019 G310GS with the intention of doing the kind of off road riding you showed at the end of this video as well as some motorcycle camping. I've never ridden an ADV bike. I didn't want a big heavy bike when I was young and strong, and I certainly don't want one now. The baby GS is almost perfect for the riding that I do and the riding that I want to do (more motorcycle solo dispersed camping). I was pleasantly surprised that the G310GS handles so well on the road, as I'd imagine a nimble sport bike would feel, but it's also very capable for the mild off road riding I want to do. I've taken the G310GS on several 200-350 mile day rides. I don't feel that I had to compromise on either Gelände (terrain) or Straße (street) because I'm not hardcore on the street or off road. I'm roughly the same size as you, 6'2" and 225 pounds, and the G310GS fits me well. Almost three years later, I'm still loving my baby GS.

@@Sasqmoto - I've had no problems with my G310GS in almost 3 years and almost 5000 miles. I do all of the regular maintenance. It's never been to the dealer.

Thanks so much for your honest review of the 310 GS. I've been riding for over 30 years now, always on the street, mostly on numerous BMW's. I recently purchased a 2021 G310 GS, as I am getting older (68 in a few months), I've wanted to learn do do some mild off-road. Seeing you handle the roads that you did right off the bat, I'm very encouraged. We have many back roads here in central Virginia, and I think this bike will be great. I'm keeping my 1200GS for road trips, but I think this one will give me so much more opportunity to explore local, less paved ones...

Great video. I watched it before I bought my 310GS a few months ago and I have found everything you said to be true. It's not vibey; it's super nimble and a great street bike; it's confidence-inspiring. I don't know if I've ever stalled it - it's not easy to stall. I took it on the dirt for the first time today with the stock tires and it did great...very manageable. I didn't do anything this technical, though I hope to in the future. Plus, the ergonomics are outstanding. It's just such a comfortable bike to ride. I have two others in the garage that are literally just sitting there. I just put one up for sale b/c this GS can do it all, I think!

To help with the technical stuff consider going down a tooth on the front sproccket or up 2 or 3 in the rear.

I was deciding between this 310gs and a barely used 2019 z650. I decided on the z650 but didn't buy it yet and I've been wanting this 310gs. I almost didn't test drive it but did it anyway just to get it out of my mind if I didn't like it. Well, I did like it and didn't like it. I STILL WANT IT!!! and might get it depending on other things going on in my life next yr. Most reviews say it doesn't have much power to pass after 60mph and isn't very pleasant beyond 65 and I doubted that...until I drove it. Once I hit 60mph it felt like it was too much to expect to go faster. I know it can go faster, however, one of the limiting factors was it was new and I didn't want to push it too much when it wasn't broken in. So that was the primary reason I went with the z650 - wanted more high speed power and ability to move around traffic with ease. In my area and where I'll be driving, people drive fast and the speed limits get up to 70 and 75. The 310gs runs and feels smooth, seat was comfortable for my rear, and the size of the bike was good (5'-7", 158#, 30" inseam) even if I couldn't flat foot it. The only other thing I didn't care for but would probably get used to was the ride-by-wire throttle. Hope that helps some of you with your decision.
