Is the 5.0 Small block ford from a Ford Explorer a plug-and-play swap?
    Well, we find out today!
The V8 We yanked from the junkyard and mated to an f150 transmission plugs right in, after some quick wiring changes this thing fired right up and is ready to rip ( I think ).
We modified the factory engine mounts a little, changed some wiring, jumped the starter relay and BAM fired right up!

I've loved watching your channel since day one! It's made by real DIYer's so it's easy for us to follow.
I have a 2003 Ford Ranger Ext Cab Tremor with a second 3.0 V6 that I rebuilt 40k miles ago.. I have finally got to the point that I can do my swap so I'm watching this series again.
After you've worked on the same truck for almost 20 years (yes I've own this one that long) you learn tips, tricks, and shortcuts that you want to share. Like cutting a window into the heater fan box in the interior so you just have to remove a panel to replace the core instead of the whole dash.....lol!
Another is for removing/replacing the engine or trans....or both. Of course take the hood off but mark the hinge placement with a grease pencil first. The one that no one seems to do but saves so much more time and allows you to angle or level everything easier is to remove the front bumper and radiator support.
Two people with electric impacts can do this in less than 30 mins. Then you have a hole that is open between the two tires and completely open at the top. If you do this, honestly you don't need an engine stand but just a hoist. You can also mount the tranny up and then bring in everything at a level steady pace. I've even took the fenders off during a swap I helped with and then we had access to both sides of the engine.
I'm not criticizing at all I promise and yes, I know it's been 2 years since this was posted. I'm just hoping someone new here with see this, as well as other tips in the comments, before starting their project.
Thanks for always doing cool shit!

I wrecked my Ranger so when I put a new core support in, I made it a bolt in instead of weld in. When you pull a V8 engine on an Explorer the transmission and flywheel need to be removed. You are going to have issues with the fuel pressure. The best thing to do when swapping is to have the whole Explorer because it has almost everything you need. Such as the proper throttle cable and radiator. The easiest swap to do is 1999-2000 Ranger 4x4 with a 1999-2001 Explorer because everything is plug and play. Fuel pressure, VSS, and antitheft are all the same. 4.2 V6 4x4 transmission is hard to find.

I seriously love how easy it is to engine swap these little trucks. These 90s vehicles from Ford were just like Legos if you want to swap them out. When it wouldn't start and you said it's a 1998, I immediately knew what it was. 1998 was the first year Ford used Passive Anti-theft System (PATS) on the Explorer but not the Ranger. If you swapped the steering column and used the Explorer key it would've fired right up.

There is 2 pink wires in the body plug that run to nutrual safety that might need to be twisted together . Been a bit since my last swap so its hard to remember everything .
