I wash my hair once a week and my hair stays moisturized throughout the week unless I’m outside for a long period of time. I work out every week so I definitely have to wash my hair everyday. The narrative that “ dirty hair grows more “ is definitely a lie. Also another lie I heard was that it takes all day to do natural hair and it’s “ too much work “. Unless you are doing a style like mini twists or a blow out for example, it should not take all day to wash, detangle, and style your hair. It takes me an hour to wash, detangle, and braid my hair into four braids and I have long thick hair. Also I just tried this new banding method with scrunchies. After I braid my hair into 4 braids, I wrap scrunchies into each braid. I just started doing it yesterday so I will see the results tomorrow but if it doesn’t work with braids I’ll just try twisting my hair before putting scrunchies on it next time. Also, I often heard the lie that black girls can’t grow long hair as well and if you are black with long hair you must be mixed or it’s genetics. I’m a black girl with long hair and I’m not mixed. I started off with a big chop and grew it to mid back length. As for my products, I use TGIN products and olive oil. I tried coconut oil when I first went natural and my scalp was really itchy and I had to wash it out. Just because coconut oil works for one woman, doesn’t mean it will work for you. You definitely have to figure out which products work for you.

My scalp hates coconut oil too. It had these huge flakes and made my strands feel rough. I like it better as an added ingredient. My hair prefers argan and macadamia oil. Also grease/hair pomades keep dryness at bay. I’m glad I circled back to using them.

I will say the unambiguous women in my family that have waist length hair do wash their hair like once a month and do NOTHING to their hair. They wear their hair in it’s Afro state almost all the time. They only straighten their hair like 2x a year and I never see them in weaves, braidouts, twist outs, curled, ect. They do not comb or brush their hair…. Finger de tangle only. I wanted extravagant styles so i always styled once a week.🤦🏾‍♀️

I’ve seen a lot of women with longer hair say they don’t wash their hair frequently too but the longest I heard in real life is one month but online they be saying 3 months or longer sometimes…I don’t think I can go that long but if it works for them then that’s great and I can’t get with finger detangling either even though I’m sure you’ll get less shedding 🤎

I wash my hair every other day. Hasn't ruined my hair at all. Actually, all that shedding stopped and so did the tangles. I was buying expensive "natural hair" products. I came back to my senses and went back to regular azz shampoo like before. There is a foam i purchase from a black owned company and that's it. Regular cheap shampoo/conditioner and foam mousse.

I have type 4a/4b hair, fine strands, medium density, and high porosity hair. I do my hair once a week. I find that products with marshmallow root does really well in my hair.
I do not like heavy butters or creams in my hair. It feels like it just sits on top of my hair but I like medium viscosity. Nothing too heavy.
I love the leave in, foam, and gel routine. My wash and goes last the whole week. I live in a humid state so if I do twist outs and such I’d need good hold. I used to use a leave in, grease and some gel for the twist outs and it’d last the week. If I want a fluffy twist out w light hold, I’ll just do a leave in and light curl cream. Nothing thick. I don’t like foam for set styles like twist outs, rods, braid outs because it makes my hair dry and provides little to no hold.

I also like the Doux 808 Base gel and/or the Uncle Funky’s daughter gel. Some other products that I know of and want to try are the Eden Bodyworks Almond Marshmallow hydration serum, Kaleidoscope Soul-fed marshmallow leave in conditioner, and Camille Rose Curl Maker. I watched a video saying that marshmallow root is good for filling in the gaps of high porosity hair to hold in moisture. I looooveee the slip and moisture this ingredient provides!

I just listen to my hair/scalp....if it's itchy or dirty I wash it, if not I wait. And in-between I run water under my hair in the shower in twists if I feel like it. And since I don't mind about it getting kinky it's not a problem. Running water over you hair daily and massaging your scalp under the water is possible if you don't mind kinky hair or kinky twists and it feels so refreshing and clean. It keeps it from getting itchy as quickly for me. But the. You might need to put just a little moisturerizer and oil on scalp if you have hard water if your gonna rinse it under water a lot between washes.

Heat "training"? Isn't that just heat "damage"? Coconut oil used to make my skin itchy, so I gave up on it. I'm not gonna waste potatoes on my hair, not with the high cost of food lol /jk.
Do you consider this statement about hair grease a lie:
"Petroleum-based grease products are barriers to keep moisture from getting in, or hair growth from getting out, so they are unable to moisturize, or grow hair."

I've returned to what was used on my hair as a child: VO5 shampoo when needed and VO5 hot oil treatment biweekly; mayo and egg white monthly; royal crown or blue magic (blue) when dry and eco style gel for styling.
I have 5 and i mean 5C hair that i keep boy short on the sides and back and no more than an inch up top. I dye my hair using creme of nature box dye. Mayo after.
