    When you do a thousand cast test, nothing comes close to a Daiwa. I can cast a Shimano Dcdc or svs further, but when you measure backlash distance’s, then it’s obvious to not use those other casting controls. Overall area covered is 80% higher with daiwa

    I got one of these same speed and everything and put it on a ML Phenix M1 rod. It is my favorite setup. Use it for finesse swim jigs and swim bait's.

    Wading flats with a spinning combo and artificial a is a pain. Because of those long handles getting wet in belly deep water. My Metanium will throw a 27MR about 45-55 yards. Soft plastic tails 40-45 depending on the rod. It’s all about rod choice. To each their own, but in TX we love our baitcasters.

    That's a nice looking reel. I just started using baitcasters this year for bass fishing. Definitely a learning curve to them. The slam shady works great on bass too by the way.

    I’ve been switching all my spinning gear over to casting gear. I enjoy it much better. And with today’s technology and assuming you understand how to dial a casting reel in. You can launch lures. My curado 70 mgl and slx 70 mgl will cast small jigs, as far as my spinning gear. But to each there own. Daiwa makes a great product no doubt! But for me it’s shimano . Tight lines

    Mate, I'm fairly new to baitcasters and have a couple of Daiwa Zillion models which I find are great especially when you dial in correctly especially if you are changing lure weights. I would say this is one of the best reviews I have watched on CZcams hands down. Have subbed and liked. I come from a land DownUnder and I cast for Murray Cod.

      @@cali_cal I agree. I hate that all blue color. That is the only thing preventing me from buying it. I prefer matte black on all my reels, spool color can be red, that is fine but the reel must be black. Any other color is a no for me.

    Great fish story and absolutely true. Bought this reel for cranking squarebills for smallmouth here in Michigan it can't throw a bait 15 feet. Ok so needless to say very disappointed anyway were fishing yesterday and I get snagged log no rock no somebodyelses rod and reel the reel is Abu Garcia revo!!! Doesn't look like it's been down there very long I clean it up and it's awesome even better than my son's curado. That thing rips my little square bills a freKin mile WOW!!!

    I have 2, Tatula 103 limited and 1, Tatula 100xs. I can bomb a 1/4oz weight 50-60 yards with no thumb and no backlash set at 7. Tensioner set at just the spool moves side to side.

  • @larrymor
    @larrymor Před rokem

    I have never really used spinning reels. If you are practiced and know what you are doing, you will be okay. In fact, I have only had one backlash with the Tatula and that was because I snagged something in back on the back of the cast. I'm surprised you are not reviewing the Coastal model since it's lighter.

    Nice looking reel me personally I will stick with my scorpion dc. It's great for anyone not use to bait casters I am certainly that guy & I haven't used the lews reel I got at first. • @shanewilson9466

    Justin, when you were skipping your lure, what did you have the mag setting on? Was it on zero, 2, 5, 10, 12, 20? I would guess your tension cap was fairly tight as well. ideally, zero and loose on the tension cap is perfect as it allows for maximum distance when casting.

    • @Jritchey1211
      @Jritchey1211 Před 2 lety +2

      Hey Shane! I always make sure my Spool tension is *just* tight enough to where there is Zero Play in the Spool, and then I set the Mag Break to 10. I think anywhere between 8-12 is the sweet spot.

    I have one and it’s not all that. Yes, it casts very well with a SS Bomber or a One Knocker Spook etc. But, I’ve already had to send it in for service after 8 months due to the one way clutch acting up. Would I buy another, probably not. I’d try something in Shimano’s lineup.

    This is a good reel but Shimano with their dc reels from the slx, Curado, Scorpion and Metanium are better reels for similar money. Add the mgl spool to those Shimano reels and they knock the Daiwa out the park.

      Both reels work well in Saltwater. There are minor differences between both models, when you compare the 2. The advantage the Coastal SV offers is a longer handle higher line capacity. Design & Sealing are identical.

    I have always thought the "talk" of how difficult bait casters are to learn and use is quite a bit overblown. Yes, you need to put in some time and practice but it's really not that hard to get proficient. Once you are comfortable with it you will never want to use your spinning set up again unless you absolutely have too.

    • @Jritchey1211
      @Jritchey1211 Před 2 lety

      No, the spool on the Coastal is deeper (for greater line capacity). The Coastal is great for those that want increased line capacity and a longer handle length. Both reels are good options for Inshore Saltwater Applications down here in the Southeast.

    I probably wouldn't use a med/heavy rod with that reel, but more like a med to med/light rod. Technically it's designed for finesse (light weight) and/or anything 1/8oz and under. Stick to a 200 size reel if you need a med/heavy rod. A 1/8oz weighted hook combined with a bomber paddle tail is heavy... not much line left over after that say if a red starts peeling line.

    A modern, quality baitcaster can throw 1/8 oz jig head. Adding a soft plastic doubles that weight. Rod and line choice matter.
    Bfs baitcaster can throw 1/32 oz when paired up with the correct line and rod.

    Sorry but you're not casting it as hard as you can. While you're skipping the bait you're raising the rod tip which is creating drag and slowing down the spool, but if you kept the rod tip down you would get a backlash. Daiwa make some great reels as do Shimano.
