VW Transporter Heater Blower Only works on 4 T5, T6 T4

If the heater blower / Motor only works on 4 Maximum the chances are high that the resistor has failed, this one is only 3 years old and it has burnt out.
In this video I show how to diagnose the fault and replace the resistor.

Had exactly this problem on my T6. Thought 'uh oh' gonna cost a lot of money. Googled 'VW Transporter Heater Blower Only works on 4' and found this. Absolutely brilliant. Followed your video exactly and worked perfectly. Heater used to take ages to get warm, then recently would only heat full blast... no temperature control, just hot until finally only working on 4. How did we manage before youtube and people like yourself showing us what to do? Thank you again for the awesome vid.

What a great video. We have a company VW Caravelle used for deliveries. Fan only worked on speed 4. My boss bought the resistor and we found your video. I managed to change the resistor using my phone light, molegrips and an adjustable spanner. Being 65 years of age I found it a bit tricky manoeuvring myself into the right position to see what I was doing, although getting out of position was probably harder :(. Get all your tools ready and to hand before you start, saves getting out of that tight space to find a tool! I can deliver with a much more comfortable temperature in the van!
There's another video showing how to do this from above, not sure what van model but it stated no passenger air bag fitted. Mine had a passenger air bag fitted. Thanks for your help....

Thanks very much for this video - it saved me a great deal of money and hassle. My t6 resistor blew after 4 years. I'll be interested to see how the cheap after-market part fares. I don't think I could have managed without the 5.5mm spanner.

Thanks to this video I could figure out what the recent issue was with my 2011 caddy. Same problem, same solution. The resistor has been ordered so I can fix it this week.

Really good video, thank you. I struggled to get at the "awkward" bolt but found that loosening the fascia below the glove compartment allowed access from the front of the unit. Cheers

Having a mare trying to get the unit out - it’s so tight to the wheel arch. How did you loosen the glove compartment fascia - was it the 3 screws at the base that you removed?

Perfect video, allowed me to easily step through it myself and I really don’t do diy on my car or van. Middle of a heat wave and air con blowers only working on full blast #4. Big road trip coming and We had to go either sweaty heat or freezing cold! Got the replacement part + 5.5mm spanner on Amazon, it came the next morning, fitted it with your video talking me though it. Thank you so much for making me a hero in my house😀

Great video, followed it and it fixed my issue which was the fan would only work on setting 4. Make sure you have a 5.5mm spanner - that will make life a lot easier and contort yourself into the foot well as best you can. Finding the correct part was not easy - if you have a T6 or anything with aircon (I think) you need the PA66GB20GF10 which I could not find even after extensive internet searches - unless you want a second hand one from ebay for £27 plus p&p. Finally sourced from my local VW van centre and cost £50. Fitting the new resistor was much easier than taking the old one out. Thanks for your help

@@aaanton11My research suggested that that would not be suitable for my 2016 T6. I took a
PA66GB20GF10 out and so I put a new one back in and it works. Guess people can do as they want and see what happens. Thanks very much for you help

Hi. Great video appreciated the support, and now taken my faulty item PA66GB20GF10 out of the van thanks to this , but could not see the link or find the item you used to replace it. ( not too much into technology) but when looking on eBay or Amazon whilst they advertise it’s a T6 correct part , it ends up saying won’t fit after going down several drop down lists

Just had this fault on my T6. So thanks for the video, super helpful. Have just ordered the part. My only query is how does the blower work on 4 but not that other settings if the resister is broken?
On full the resistor is bypassed as the motor gets all of the power, on all of the other settings the resistor reduces the current to the motor slowing it down. Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

Nice video, but there is also reason why resistor blew down. Is always worth to check blower motor bearings, clean and grease them. Otherwise problem still going on and you need to replace resistor again.

Nice one, thanks for posting. When ever something stops working the first thought is how much is this one going to cost!! Very easy to follow even if some parts are fiddly, it started pissing it down when I was half hanging out the van as well 😂😅 Dont suppose you have a video of how to do a full leisure battery install with hock up or offer this as a service?

nice turtorial video, by chance do you know where the fuse is located for the heater. ive changed the new resistor and was all working well for a day, then totally failed on me, now the maxium 4 setting doesnt work at all also.

Sorry for going off topic but anyone know why only my fan speed control works on the climate control panel- it works on all 4 speeds, the temp control , direction control ,ac and recirculation dont work,

The heater motor only worked on 1 and 3. I changed the resistance and now it only works on 2 and 4
Check the connector plug the chances are it will be melted and causing a poor connection Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 With the old resistor it works on 1 and 3. With the new one on 2 and 4. I bought another new one and it still only works on 2 and 4. In conclusion, with the old resistor it works on 1 and 3 and with the two new ones it works on 2 and 4.
OK less than £10 on eBay, bargain. I have 4 clips not 3 holding the plastic cover. Ratchet wont fit, so adjustable essential to get the inner one off - the apply pliers to the socket advice won't work as it just slips off, and if you squeeze the ratchet in it flicks over from loosening to tightening which is a bummer. Daughter had same fault on a VW Polo so it might be a generic fix. Thanks for the video, fortunately didn't record mine as far too much swearing at the screws for public consumption.
