  • Episode 13 of transforming a tired looking ex builders T5 into something a little cooler.
    In this episode I change the Thermostat in the hope to help cure a Coolant issue. I also discover I need to replace the Heater Blower Motor and the Coolant Header tank cap.

    regarding the heater blower motor, my wifes card did this years ago, i ended up giving it a good soak with wd40, and it worked fine for years after that....absolutly stank for a week but that fixed it.

    Id have changed the resistor pack too buddy. Most likely fault. And as others have said, while its good to fix faults as you find them, that air blower wont have any effect on bleeding the system. Keep it up dude. Well deserved success👍

      @DanChambersDAC  Před 4 lety

      Thank you for watching and for the comment, Yeah I my add that to the list although the amount I am spending has already gone way beyond what I initially budgeted for... Yes, I wanted the blower to be able to see if the air from the matrix was warm or not.

    Well it's interesting to me! The air distribution dial doesn't work correctly in mine. I think the cable has snagged, I can't change the air flow to any of the vents. Keep up the great videos mate, you deserve the subscribers!

    • @stuart7523
      @stuart7523 Před 4 lety +1

      The cable that controls the direction is braided and that dial is not designed to rotate through 360*
      You can get a replacement for it or you could (I have) install the same "solid" cable from the heater select (hot or cold) . Same length and fittings but it's solid. VW suppliers "TPS" is where I got mine from.
      Hope this helps.

    • @algrainger
      @algrainger Před 4 lety

      It's a common issue, just fixed on my T5. Non braided cable is £19 on ebay and it takes about 30mins to fit. Bit of a faff but worth it for when the weather heats up.

    I know from my T5 5 cilinder there is a one way valve in the 'bleeding hose' to te expansion reservoir. I my case it was installed the wrong way round, so ik wouldend 'bleed'. Air in the hoses and pressure buil up. Mountend it the correct way, problem solved.

      Thank you so much for watching and for the comment, I don't think there are any bleed nipples/points on the 1.9... Looked all over.

      Dan Chambers thanks for the comment! I think you have, watching you taking the expansion reservoir out, there seems to be a little “knob” in the hose attached to te top reservoir. That’s the valve.

    Have a similar issue with my 1.9 t5, coolant pressurising and splurging over abs module, same dash behaviour, wrecked abs module now replaced (coolant damaged) pretty sure head gasket gone, next job. Get that head off, i could do with a bit of tutorial help!!! Great vids🤙🤙

      Thank you so much for watching! Oh no. They do test us some times! I don't think the ABS module has had coolant on it (at least I hope not!) Head will be coming off in the next few days.

    I don't think the fan spinning will have any effect on the coolant. It only blows air.

    Put your old thermostat in a mug of boiling water see if it opens 🤷🏼‍♂️
