  • The Yamaha Raider is an AWESOME! machine. However, it's just a few things I would like to have changed.

    No 6th gear is my only complaint. I love everything else.

      The aerodynamics wouldn't benefit from a 6th gear.

    Throttle play can be adjusted by adjusting the cable tension on the housing.

    I clicked on your channel because I saw your comment on that HD Lowrider video AND because I own an '06 Yamaha Stratoliner S, Darksided... same engine as the Raider. Thanks for the video's!

    You might try to adjust the throttle free play to eliminate a lot of the slack or delay in the throttle.

      It has lead and return he cannot only try but can make it so responsive it will Rev even when just look at the throttle:D

    Nice looking ride! I agree man. For me the worst is lack of aftermarket support. Pain in the ass to find parts you want. Also the stock rear seat is garbage. My girl did ONE ride with me and said never again unless I change the seat lol. Went with an ultimate front and rear and removable rider backrest. What an improvement. The lack of range I honestly don't mind. By the time the fuel gets down I'm honestly ready to get off and stretch anyway. On that note it is best to not let the bike get into the reserve. They have a known flaw. The fuel cools the pump and when you run the tank empty it quite often will crack the fuel pump housing. I have quick detach saddlebags. Got in the habit of carrying a couple fuel bottles with me. Already saved a few guys from having to wait while we run back for fuel.

    You absolutely nailed it. I have a 2012. The fuel tank looks big but it holds like you said 4.1 or 4.2 gallons. I'm too worried about long distance rides without knowing where gas stations are.

  • @tom23245
    @tom23245 Před 3 měsíci

    1. No 6th gear
    2. Gas tank could be a bit bigger
    3. Wouldn't mind more displacement haha
    4. Chrome could be a bit nicer
    5. ABS for the rainy days

    The riding position looks a lot more comfortable than my 500r but that mileage is a real bummer. Oh well, if I ever do get one I'll have to keep some petrol filled water bottles in my backpack. Love long roadtrips!

    I've had my Raider for 2 days. I don't notice an issue with the throttle, but I will be changing out both of my seats. it's otherwise a delight to ride! I wonder if there's a way to adjust it.

  • @decapolis01
    @decapolis01 Před 6 měsíci

    I have had my Raider for 11 years. I wanted to see your thoughts. You nailed all the things I dislike about the Raider minus the throttle control. You can adjust the cables to be more responsive. Fuel capacity and 35mpg is my 1 complaint. Seats could be way more comfortable and aftermarket are super expensive. I disliked the aggressive riding position for long rides so I put 14 inch apes on mine. When I rode solo the Raider was perfect but now that I always ride in groups the road captain schedules fuel stops for my bike because the Harleys can go almost twice as far. I think its time for a Road King Special.

    The issue with the cables is that Yamaha makes them longer so if you decide to add risers etc you can without changing cables. That makes it difficult to hide them away. The stock seat is definitely not great for long rides. I switched to a Mustang seat it’s like night and day.

    I don't understand all these people who want a 6 th. gear , I have never even come close to red lining my bike .
    On the other hand I own a BMW K 1200 ad it has a 6 speed close ratio gearbox and it is a pain it the ass for relaxed riding , all you do is shifting up and down , the whole time .
    The lack of fuel capacity is valid though , on long trips it gets irritating .

    From my profile pic you don’t have to guess that I love my Raider. There are just a couple things I dislike about the bike 1. Would love a 6th great 2. LED headlights are required going to change mine. I got the 2017. Keep the videos coming. Did you do a tune on your bike. It sounds great

    i bought one a few months ago a 2015 900 miles on it. i put on chrome wheels sissybar a new rear seat. and i repainted it myself but i am a old custom painter. also a power commander and new loud exhaust. and a oil cooler. as far as throttle response it isnt all that bad. but i adjusted mine so it is a lil bit better. now the bike has over 3500 miles on it and i put on a 240 rear tire. he for 4500 bucks you cant beat the bike. i also have a honda 1100 shadow sabre and a vtx 1800. i do prefer the raider. fast enough for this old 69 yr old man lol words of wisdom ,,,, ride it like you stole it.

    It's a cruiser you can't compare it to a zx 10 man throttle response

  • @zozoa1
    @zozoa1 Před 3 lety

    For me it’s no sixth gear and the speedometer on the tank need it where the Stryker has it. Apart from that it’s gotta be in the top 3 best cruisers. Ohhh and after market parts are very expensive.

    • @rydeking4579
      @rydeking4579  Před 3 lety +2

      Finding after market parts can be quite easy when you join Yamaha Raider groups. There are a lot of great people coming together to help grow the Raider community customizing bars, exhaust, sissy bars, etc. In my opinion that what makes our bike truly special. However, there are some websites for aftermarket parts if you prefer to just point click purchase.

    I would like to have seen Yamaha make the Raider engine be able to upgrade it to a larger displacement kind of like what Harley learned after the EVO motor.. Starting with the Twin Cam Harley engine, you could get bigger jugs to increase your engine size and voila, you had more power.... I would have like to of seen Yamaha make a kit so that the engine could go from its 113 cu in to 126 cu in, thereby, making it bigger than Kawasaki's Vulcan 2053 cc or 125 cu in motor... Just one of those "male bragging rights thing." I subscribed and will see all your Raider videos since I am interested in my 45th motorcycle (been riding since 1974) being a used Raider... You "almost" have me convinced to buy one, almost....

    • @rydeking4579
      @rydeking4579  Před 3 lety +1

      There actually are a few companies that make 122 and 128 kits for the Raider. There is also an shop called one off custom designs that make turbo kits and 131 kits for the Raider.

    After rolling is your throttle erky-jerky? Erky off jerky back on? Mine is. Yamaha said that they all do that. Does anyone know how to fix this. I already had my ECU flashed by Ivan.

    probably not having 6th gear and I hear it's also short geared and will be changing gears quick. Unlike the M90 or so that can easily do 60 in 2nd gear and almost have no need for it's 5th gear as it is geared very high/wide and loves to be in the high rpms.
