  • Les McKeown was the boy from Broomhouse in Edinburgh who became the frontman of one of the biggest bands in the world - the Bay City Rollers.
His funeral will take place this weekend following his sudden death aged 65 at home on April 20.
In this video report, STV News entertainment reporter Laura Boyd looks back at the life of the legendary Scottish singer, speaking to those who knew him, worked with him and followed the band from the moment they first appeared on stage… in all their tartan glory.

1st time I'd romantic feelings for someone , my 1st love , always adored Les , during his times of trouble my heart hurt , when his passing was announced then shed tears 21 days in a row (unusual for me) , my heart still aches , shed tears again this afternoon , heartbroken. Gone too soon. Les will always be deep rooted in my heart. 🌹
Feeling privileged to have all those precious memories 💝
BCR fans have a bond that can't be broken , we experienced something extra special together , even though we never all met 💞

Did you know Les Funny enough I wasn't of that music era but my mother was and she listened to BCR 's when we were babies but when I read his story and heard of his plight on Nicki Campbell"s documentary, I felt such compassion for him. He was such a handsome man as well. I would do loved to have met him. I listened to his music and had a fantastic signing voice. How dare that manage say they had no real music talent. He was so wrong. What he did to Les was diabolical and he should have been charged. I don't believe Les would have gone down the route he did if it were not for that encounter. He deserved jail. God test poor Les.
