  • Rare footage filmed 2004 PART 1 OF 6.
In the 1970's the Bay City Rollers sold over 120 Million records, and topped the charts in every record selling country in the world, generating and industry worth over £5 BILLION in today's money. Yet by 1979 the band were penniless, victims of one of the greatest Rock n' Roll Rip off of all time.
25 years later they try to get to the bottom of it.
This video is demonetised as it has a Copy-write Claim. We do not earn money from these CZcams Videos, but we hope the money earned goes to the song writers and The Bay City Rollers.... as it should. KEEP ON ROLLIN'!

Given the sleeziness of the music industry, I understand why Mick Jagger (Rolling Stones) educated himself and enrolled in accounting courses at the London School of Economics....he wanted to know how to analyze a balance sheet, profit/loss statements, etc. Such a shame the Rollers didn't have a similar opportunity to educate themselves along the way.

Thanks. I've always wanted to see this documentary again, ever since I first saw it back in 2004 when I believe it was first shown on TV. This was a real eye-opener on the industry and is probably just the tip of the iceberg because we now know that so many artists do get ripped off by the big people within the industry that just use them and their talents and then they spit them out. It's such a contrast to the perspective of innocence I had on it as a kid back in the 70s watching the Bay City Rollers on Top of the Pops thinking that these guys had it all and so wanting to grow up to be like them. Also, sad to hear of the recent death of Les McKeown RIP.

I lived through that time and remember they were everywhere, on TV, in mags, newspapers, gigging...In a way, they were probably as famous as the Osmonds and The Jackson Five. Sadly, their case was often typical of many young bands in the 70s, who worked really hard to make a name for themselves, naively trusted in their management and the record company, and got ripped off in the process. Someone should be made accountable for their lost millions.

I still remember when they were the Golden Boys of The Teen Magazine Set. From 1975-1979 they were at their peak featured in Tiger Beat, Teen Beat, 16, Superteen. They were to their Generation what Duran Duran was to the 1980's. Also that Tam Paton did to them what "other" managers did to their "Boys". Edgardo Diaz (Menudo that Ricky Martin started out in and had to audition 3 times to get into), Chris Stokes (B2K), Maurice Starr (The "Original" New Edition), and the "Mutha" of all Lou Pearlman who was featured in The Boy Band Con. They were too "trusting". You sing, and I'll take care of you Boys, don't worry about The Business, I got this. If it were up to me when they have a New Boyband/Girllband come on the scene have "Guys" like these and even Ladies and tell them what time it is and say "If It Could Happen To Me, It Could Happen To You". Poor Les was a Drunk for many years upsetting his Wife Peko a former Japanese Singer and their Son Rikki and when he went into Rehab he revealed a secret he had been hiding. He was sexually abused.

The Bay City Rollers are the best example of why every artist who ever had to deal with the music industry before ~2000, hated their guts (and often died in poverty, despite having earned the kind of wealth that only nation states often see). In fact, this kind of thing was the reason that the earliest file pirating "victims" actually **_advocated_** for a lot of the piracy.*

I can't understand why the police never investigated this big crime after all it's fraud an theft of millions even though the rollers ran out of money to hire law Lawyers surely it woz a police matter given how much money woz involved an that evil Tam Paten certainly had the lion's share along with dodgy lawyers an accountants it's bloody criminal those lads should have been multi millionaires it's so sad an i really feel for them all despite the fact that i woz never a fan of the bay city rollers still really makes me angry to know they were cheated out of the money they absolutely deserved. They should have lived a life of luxury being as big as they were

🎵WE LOVE THE ROLLERS. WE LOVE THE ROLLERS🎵NOT ME BUT EVERY GIRL IN OUR HIGH SCHOOL DID. THEY HAD ALL THE RECORDS AND POSTERS. WERE FAN-CLUB MEMBERS 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 TALKED SCOTTISH EH ! ⭐ WENT TO SEE THEM 🎶SWOONED AT THE MENTION OF THEIR NAMES 🇺🇸 THE NEW ONE WAS ADOPTED AND MOTHERED BY GIRLS WHO WORE THEIR NAMES ON T-SHIRTS & DENIM JACKETS. HAD TARTAN STRIPES ON THEIR WHITE HIGH WAISTERS 🇻🇳 IT REALY WAS ALL CONSUMING. MUCH MORE THAN THAT TAKE THAT OR THE SPICE GIRLS. 🇧🇷 THEY HAPPENED WHEN NOTHING ELSE WAS HAPPENING. NO COMPUTER GAMES OR INTERNET. IBIZA OR RAVES DIDN'T EXIST YET. CHART MUSIC WAS DRAB AND BORING THEN THESE RAZOR GANG MEMBERS FROM TOUGH SCOTTISH HOUSING TENNAMENTS WHO LOOKED LIKE THE BOY NEXT DOOR TURNED UP. THEIR STYLE SUITED THE DAY. THE GILS WHO WERE ALL GOING TO MARRY A ROLLER HAD OLDER BROTHERS WHO WENT TO THE MATCH ON SATURDAY AND LOOKED LIKE THEM 🌍 THE MUSIC SOUNDED LIKE FOOTBALL CHANTS AND WAS USED ON THE TERRACES IN SONGS 🌈 SO WTF WENT WRONG WITH THE MONEY. IT MUST BE DELIBERATE THEFT BECAUSE THEY GENERATED £ILLION$. they weren't really gang members... Just seemed like it. They deserve so much more. Classic example of kids getting ripped off by big corporate business who conceal the money with off shore banking scams as they tell the artists we're doing it so the taxman doesn't take it all..If your earning money you should be able to go to the bank and see your money.. Advice being if you sell records talk to artists who have been doing it for a long time as they know who is honest and how the music industry works..
Older musicians should set up an advice center for up and coming musicians. Bonno job for you. Instead of saving the planet help young musicians instead..
Their manager Tam is on CZcams saying how he is looking after their millions. "don't want them having to work for a living in a few years time" he says. Oh yea !
