    Jussi är redan mästarnas mästare och överträffar här till och med sig själv. Det är absurt expressivt. Underbart! Tack för denna sångkonst!!

    The young man (Jussi) was one of our BEST of all, as he made his Swedish (vocal) roots and training,, into one of the MOST-unforgettable of all tenors ... in character, projections and characterizations, of ANY role ... that was presented before him. His dedication to music and vocalism ... even in a TIME when there were many, great singers ... is the legacy of the most-remarkable part. .... Opinions, only.

      John B I visited Borlänge when I vacationed in Sweden, a favor to my father, pilgrimage on his behalf. I am not the opera fan he is, preferring symphony (and heavy rock) but this is a glittering gem of culture, one of those rare prominences among human works

    Simply amazing! It´s great, how Björlings voice at 3:21 gets this awfully disgusted tone! By the way, another proof of the fact that Sibelius also is a master of orchestral songs, in this case "doing the Puccini" better than Puccini himself.

  • @ozsfi
    @ozsfi Před 8 lety +3

    Interesting how towards the end he sings " kyssar" (kisses) instead of "läppar" (lips), which last one is in the score. It is slower than most people sing it, but then one can hear and understand the words in the high part, which often is difficult.

    Fantastic voice. Just to nitpick, though: isn't his interpretation too heroic for what is, after all, a sentimental song? (Flagstad, too, made it sound like Götterdämmerung's final scene...)

    • @JohnSchlesinger-UK
      @JohnSchlesinger-UK Před 5 lety

      No, this is what only a spinto tenor can do. If you want to hear it heroic, Karita Matilla's performance is fabulous, almost as good as Bjorling's. These scandinavians can really sing.

      You just made me day, thank you.
      What you said explains so much! I am also from Sweden, but when it comes to a lot of swedish music I´ve always felt perplexed. I was recommended this video by a friend, who is into old songs and opera. I never really liked his singing, but couldn´t quite put my finger on why. Your observation; many swedes put too much ego into their singing, fit him perfectly.
      My favorite artist is Tommy Emmanuel, a guitarist who is the polar opposite of "lousy at feeling the groove and flow and phrasing of music". The reason I was orginally drawn to him might have been that his music filled some sort of void left by my own culture's self-centeredness. When he is out of stage all he cares about is giving the audience a good time, and it comes through in the music. An important part of being musical might be to put the music first. Ego gets in the way of that.
      Btw, do you have any recommedations?
      English artists are fine, but if you know any good swedish artists I would love to know. Besides being generally "good", I like instrumental music a lot. It´s not that I dislike lyrics in general but rather I like when the meaning is implicit, as it allows for me get emotionally involved with the song. I generally dislike "attitude", but if it´s done in a self-aware or playful way I love it. Good melodies, complexity and/or a strong groove are all great to have, but softer music is good too.
      A few other artists I like are: Yes (amazing creativity and great rhythms), Kate Bush (unique and talented singer), Van Canto ("a cappella" of metal songs, humorously bad-ass) and Adrian von Ziegler (relaxing and emotional instrumental music that helped through my depression years ago, his "only piano" songs are good if you´re not into fantasy music).
      I can´t recommend you anything besides what I like the most, since I don´t know your taste.

      No way, my parents was at that show! The world feels small now.
      Thanks for the recommendations. I checked out the channel you recommended and found some intersting songs right away. A good gold digger's channel.
      A similar channel I use is: Mahogany Sessions
      The channel consists of many different artists playing a a wide range of laid-back songs. I´ve been using playlists of the channel while I work, a nice blend of variety and relaxing.

      Lazy Monk, you say you are a Swede and because of that are allowed to speak the truth. I'm a Norwegian, and I'm also allowed to speak the truth. And I can assure you that what you write about Jussi Bjørling here, is the opposite of the truth. Actually, from what you write here, it's obvious that you haven't understood very much of Jussi's singing. The same is the "truth" about what Wandering Watcher is writing. At the end of the 20 Century the British magazine Classic CD asked it's reviewers who was the greatest classical singer of the 20 Century, and they answered Jussi Bjørling - nr 2 was Maria Callas. Do you think they would have voted him nummer 1 only because of his flawless timbre? Actually, your text and your "wandering buddy's" texts show almost nothing about Jussi Bjørling's vocal art, but a lot about yourselves and the way you are listening to Jussi Bjørling. Your texts show all you haven't understood about his singing.

      I am Swedish and i agree with guthorbj. That I consider Jussi being one of the Worlds greatest tenors have nothing to do with our common homeland. Flagstad is greater than Nilsson; and Gedda was never my favorite etc etc. "Musicians who are renowned in Sweden are generally pretty lousy at feeling the groove and flow and phrasing of music, regardless of instrument and genre. They can often achieve technical mastery, but your ears hurt from listening to their soulless and ego glorifying performances!"
      That is ridiolous.....the opposite is the truth.
